Breakfast today is sponsored by the letter C. ‘Cause it’s Friday! I swear this was a totally accidental drawing!
I woke up early so I could watch SYTYCD over breakfast. I was really surprised by the guy who went home! I also have a new love for Lady Gaga. I really don’t know much about her other than she wears wacky clothes, but I have connected the face with the music and really love her songs – and her messages! She was so personable as a guest judge on the show and I feel like I “know” her now. I’m a new fan!
I made 10 minute soaked oats today – basically the same mixture as overnight oats without the 10 hour soak. They were not good. You just need that soak for the oats to get all the doughy flavor! They weren’t bad though. I just mixed 1/4 cup oats, 1/3 cup yogurt and 1/3 cup milk with chia seeds and on top – a peach, blueberries, coconut, Cville Cluster and sunfower butter
A note to all the OpenSky Cville Cluster orderers: the Cville Cluster is not supposed to be crunchy – it’s like a crumbled soft granola bar and it’s more bready than crunchy. That’s what makes it addicting!! Just wanted to clarify that for those who have emailed me inquiring. Also, here’s a link to the pancake mix directions.
Earl Gray! One of my favorite teas. I’m so weird about teas:
Love: black, creamy, minty, vanillay
Hate: Fruity, citrus, watery, spiced
I’m headed to Pump in a bit – then to the bakery – then to celebrate Americana Night!
Kristin @ eat healthy. be happy. live well says
I haven’t watch SYTYCD yet, but a friend said Gaga wasn’t very nice! I’m interested to watch it now since you had a different opinion!
Lisa @ Sunny Seed Stories says
I hate fruity teas too! Yay for herbal ones!
Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table says
Those peaches look perfect! I may miss those the most when summer ends. Chewier “not so overnight” oats can be really satisfying some days. I sometime just let them sit in yogurt and granola post-run while I shower and devour them after about 20 mins.
Lynda @ healthy hoboken girl says
Yum, breakfast looks great, Kath! I made overnight oats too. Peaches are wonderful, have fun pumping it up!
Brittany @ Itty Bits of Balance says
Your breakfasts always make my mouth water! ahhhh 🙁
Claire @ Live and Love to Eat says
C – coconut, chia, and Cville Cluster – I think it’s appropriate! 😉
Katie says
I agree, best looking breakfast always at KERF ; )
I love Lady Gaga, she is more than just a crazy outfit, real person underneath those, glad you like her too!
Cait's Plate says
I’m with you on the tea qualities. Fruity teas always seem like such a good idea but then they’re just not very good in actuality.
LOVE Lady Gaga. I didn’t want to at first but I caved and really do now…maybe not her outfit choices though!
Holly @ The Runny Egg says
I intended to watch SYTYCD last night because I wanted to see Lady Gaga as the guest judge. But I forgot and ended up watching Project Runway instead!
Krissie J @ A Philly Nerd Girl says
Gaga was on Howard Stern recently and thankfully my boyfriend has a Sirius subscription so when they re-aired the interview I got to hear it. I’ve liked Gaga for a long time, but hearing that made me really appreciate her even more. If you can get your hands on the audio, definitely listen to it.
Rachel says
Earl Grey is my favorite tea! I’ve also bought it in decaf so I can have some at night. Caffeine never used to affect me like it does now.
kaila@ healthy helper blog! says
I love earl gray! One of my faves for sure!
And I am a lady gaga fan too!
Cait @ Beyond Bananas says
I’ve been making some overnight oats in the morning too. Since I am on vacation – I havea little extra time – so I just wait it out – and then don’t have to worry about doing it at night.
When I am working though – I could not even THINK of having the time to prep in the morning!
Hanna says
As always, beautiful photos Kath! Also, where do you watch SYTYCD? Is it online? I wasn’t able to watch it this week.
KathEats says
I DVR it
Jocelyn says
It’s on tv! Channel 6… FOX. 🙂 Best show ever!! (though i was not a fan of Lady Gaga’s constant criticism of numerous choreographers… made her seem like a know-it-all… and the whole “I’ve won lots of trophies” hands comment ticked me off… she’s the one who’s so into herself. buttttt I’m done :))
Baking N Books says
I was surprised about her comments about the choreography as well! I didn’t think she “dissed” anyone – but I didn’t feel it gave much respect to them. I didn’t watch that closely – she is very personable – but I think her fashion and stuff is just gone beyond now and she’s trying to hard?
Meh, what do I know? Interesting about the granola no being crunchy!
Hilliary @ Happily Ever Healthy says
I love Lady Gaga’s music. But I do agree she does wear some very odd things! Sounds like you have a fun night ahead! Happy Friday!
Brenda says
Love Lady Gaga! Cville clusters are the bomb! My daughter loves her granola soft and doughy. She found them in the pantry and I am now afraid she will devour the bag. I think I better go hide the bag again!
Hillary says
I’ve never had granola with the texture you’re describing, but now I want to (haha)!
Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat says
That’s a beauty of a bowl! I too have also re-fallen in love with Lady Gaga. Have you heard the song Hair? I posted it on my blog today.. the lyrics are kind of weird but it is SO catchy!
Gina @ Running to the Kitchen says
I feel the exact same way in my tea preferences too! My husband loves chai and honestly the smell kinda grosses me out.
Ashley @ Coffee Cake and Cardio says
I’m so with your on teas!!
Erika @ The Teenage Taste says
Happy Friday, Kath! 😀
Faith @ For the Health says
I think we have the exact opposite taste in teas – I love ’em sweet and fruity, and the creamy ones are boring (to me, at least!)
Krissy @ Make It Naked says
I feel the same way about Lady Gaga. I think Wednesday night was the best night of this season. Funny about the tea. I have so many boxes of tea I can’t stand and I don’t know what to do with them all. We should have a tea tasting/exchange.
Kori says
I definitely believe the notion, “if you don’t have anything nice to say, then don’t say anything at all.” But I have to say that I really do not like Lady Gaga. She seems so insincere and incredibly dramatic where it is unnecessary. I just do not understand why the public would put her on a pedestal for such ridiculous behavior, but if anyone else tried her antics, they’d likely be committed to a mental institution. She just seems strung out on drugs, and she gets praised for it. But to each his/her own in terms of opinion.
ANYWAYS, I had oats stirred into yogurt this morning, and it definitely wasn’t as tasty as overnight oats. Yours still looked really pretty! I hope you really enjoy your Friday!!
KathEats says
Well, like i said, I don’t know much about her. Is she a druggie? That would surprise me.
Kori says
Well, I have heard on several occasions that she uses cocaine, but I do not know her personally, so I can only speculate. Again, I really do not intend or want to upset anyone. If you like her, then that’s awesome! I just wanted to express my opinion, but that won’t buy you much. 😉 I’m a new fan of SYTYCD, and Kaci and I have been watching for the past several weeks. We were surprised to see Jordan go. It’s getting down to the wire!
Vanessa says
I love Gaga, but I definitely see how some people don’t understand her. One thing I love most about her is her humor, and she’s extremely intelligent. She uses marijuana, not cocaine; not that that’s a great thing to promote to youth, but at least she’s honest. Remember, she’s mastered the “art of celebrity” so she’ll always say and do things to get people talking 🙂
Kori says
Yes, I definitely like that she isn’t a cookie-cutter celebrity/singer. I just think she goes a little too far sometimes. But I like several of Kesha’s songs, and she’s different for sure. It’s nice to have a variety of music and artists for everyone to relate to. 🙂
Allie says
My friend Miranda was on SYTYCD but she was booted off a few weeks ago I believe. I wonder if you remember watching her?!
Your oats look great, btw 😀
KathEats says
YES!! I remember her! So cool she’s a friend!
Margo @ Peanut Butter Trees says
I’m a big lady gaga fan too, I think it’s great that she seems to be a true artist and expresses herself in such creative ways.
Khushboo says
Lately I have been making faux-vernight oats a lot because I don’t want to ‘commit’ to a breakfast and they turn out great. Try adding less liquid next time and leaving it to sit for 20 mins or so!
Jeannie says
Received my CVille Cluster OpenSky yesterday — hid the granola from my husband and kids…too good to share! But made the oatmeal for my kids this morning…they LOVED it. I think that addition of dry milk makes the difference. Saving the pancake mix for next week when we will have house guests. Hoping this is repeated on OpenSky, or offered through your store for shipping to Boston, because it will be gone soon!
Morgan @ Some Kind of Sunshine says
I’m the same with teas. Fruity tea is good iced, but hot it just tastes too hot and watery. I do love a chai tea made with milk though, in the winter!
Aine @ Something to Chew Over says
Your breakfast is like muesli then!
Mary Catherine says
The Austin Great Harvest granola has the exact same texture – I love it! Tastes like CAKE to me!
Ash @ Good Taste Healthy Me says
I hate starting my morning off with a breakfast I don’t love…it just starts the day off on the wrong foot!
Melanie says
Looks absolutely yummy! And I really like Lady Gaga. Her music is awesome and she does so much for the LGBT community.
One question: where did you get that bowl? It’s quite pretty. 🙂
KathEats says
It’s pottery barn!
Sonya says
I missed the boat on the Cville granola via Opensky! If I had known it was not crunchy, I’d have jumped on it. Will you offer it again, somehow, someway?
KathEats says
We’ll probably do it again sometime
lynn @ the actor's diet says
the GH granola sounds so interesting!!!
Mary Legare Whaley says
Lady Gaga is a little nutty, but she is totally down to earth. Also, her music is GREAT when you need some pump-up tunes during a workout! Most of her songs are great if you need some tunes for a solo spin routine. Also–your breakfast has me craving some peaches and blueberries!
Johanna B says
My favorite tea (I’m a hot tea fiend even in this incredible heat) is plain old ordinary Celestial Seasonings Peppermint. I must drink 4 cups a day. I also drink green tea which is good just not as…
Tessa @ Amazing Asset says
I was also surprised that guy was sent home! Ahh well, still enjoyable 🙂
I hope Pump was wonderful!
Sarah @ Sarah's Modern Bites says
Hmmmm interestingliny I had an oat conundrum of my own this morning! I didn’t have time to soak oats last night (Though… how much time does that really even take to prepare? I was lazy) SO I cooked some early this morning hoping the would cool off enough for me to throw in a PB jar with a banana. I made it and it faked it. haha
Also, I always felt guilty for liking Lady Gaga. Why!? She is awesome and her songs are the BEST for running.
Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife says
Yeah PUMP!!
I think Gaga’s music is great for working out, no question about that! But she is definitely a tad insane.
Shannon @ My Place In The Race says
What a tasty looking breakfast you’ve got there 😛
Liz@TheHappSpace says
All this talk about Pump makes me want to try it out. Will I survive? I feel like I have no upper body strength whatsoever. Can anyone give me some tips? =) Happy Friday everyone!
KathEats says
I’m pretty sure Tina @ Carrots n Cake did a post about it – and Fitnessista too!
April says
Speaking of tea, I’m a tea-aholic! Have you ever tried coconut tea? I get a black coconut loose tea from Adagio Teas that is to-die-for! If you’re a creamy, black, vanillay tea person, I think you’d love it.
KathEats says
I haven’t tried that one! I’ve only had coconut chai which is a bit spicy for me
Cat @Breakfast to Bed says
TEAM MELANIE!!!!!
Hearty Eugene says
The Austin Great Harvest granola has the exact same texture – I love it! Tastes like CAKE to me!
Cristen says
I was never a real fan of Lady Gaga until I watched her Monster Ball tour on HBO – if you get a chance, you need to watch that– could be On Demand or somewhere online. Gave me a whole new perspective on her and made me a fan of her music!
Abby White says
Hello Kath:
I wanted to see if you had the recipe to make the GH Pancake Mix. Unfortunately, I can’t read the back label and just needed to know how many eggs or water that it needs. If you can send me the recipe that would be great! I am looking online but have not found anything yet. Hope you have a great day.
KathEats says
Abby,
Just in this post up there ^^ I wrote about the pancake mix and linked to where you can find the label and instructions online
Jackie @ That Deep Breath says
I bet the Cville Cluster would be great on top of apple/peach crisp if it’s already doughy and not crunchy! Yum!
Lexi @ A Spoonful of Sunshine says
I’ve tried doing overnight oats in 10 minutes, and you’re right–not so good. I think the “overnight” part is gonna have to stick around 🙂
P.S. I’ve not normally a mainstream music fan, but I really like Lady Gaga. She actually seems quite smart, despite the crazy antics.
Luv What You Do says
I have been addicted to the TAZO black tea for about a year now and just discovered teh TAZO focus. It is black tea with hints of orange and cocoa…surprisingly good! Not sure if it helps me focus, but it gets me through my morning commute!
Kris says
Earl Grey is flavored with bergamot. Bergamot orange rind, more precisely. So it looks like you may not hate all fruit teas after all!
KathEats says
I do taste a hint of citrus, but it’s really really mild. SOMETIMES I like a lemon tea
sara says
your breakfasts always look SOOOO delicious!
the overnight oats take at least 2 hrs to soak to that “ovrnight” consistency..just letting you know 🙂
and im so with you on the teas….except peppermint..thats all you
kate says
I was so sad at what guy went home :(…he was my favourite!
I liked Lady Gaga too. She was pretty honest, especially about Nappytabs routines (ugh). And I loved it when that fly landed on her hat!
KathEats says
I noticed the fly too – HA! I wondered it it was fake + staged!!
Emily @ Savory and Savage says
Black, creamy teas gets my vote!
Have a great Friday!
Namaste Gurl says
Looks like a colorful and seasonal breakfast!
Have a wonderful day 🙂
Sheila MuffinTop says
I am not suprised at all that [he] went home. I was jumping for joy and screaming FINALLY!! and high fiving my husband. I have no idea why anyone likes him. He is annoying, always danced with his mouth hanging open, could not partner and really could only dance in his style. I didn’t think that Gaga was a very good judge. She turned everything back to herself (does she really need more attention) and over criticized the choreographers. She doesn’t like props and called things dated? Kind of hypocritical in my opinion. That I’m on the Edge song and video is straight up 80’s…BAD 80’s. My only experience with Gaga has been through SYTYCD and while I don’t dislike her, I don’t think she is all that great either. I don’t get the hype.
Anyway, the breakfast looks good.
KathEats says
Shhhhhhhhh you’re spoiling the show by saying who it was!! I thought he was a much better dancer than anyone realized. Not the best, but really good
Sheila MuffinTop says
ooops sorry. oh I wish I could edit. You can delete me if you want.
KathEats says
I edited his name out 🙂
Sheila MuffinTop says
Ooops sorry. I wish I could edit. You can delete my comment if you want.
Kate says
OMG! The Wisconsin cow beer! I was lucky enough to try it last year, thanks to my parents’ neighbor who brought some home with her. It’s good stuff. Enjoy!
Taya says
I felt the SAME way about Lady Gaga and also share your SYTYCD addiction! Although I’ve always had a secret fondness for Lady Gaga’s music, I resisted actually liking her for the longest time. Not anymore! I loved her sincerity, kindness, and comments – especially the one about how she puts away all of her awards so she doesn’t get a big head! Then she cried, and I loved her even more. What a beautiful moment! I don’t even mind her wacky “fashion” anymore…good for her to have confidence and express how she feels!
Shayla @ The Good Life says
I.love.Lady.Gaga. She is absolutely amazing, and that love for her grew after reading her interviews and hearing her talk about everything…she’s incredible and I absolutely love her messages in her songs…Born This Way is my anthem and a song I love to listen to when I need my spirits lifted 🙂
Molly @ RDexposed says
I’m very picky about teas, too. And I love to use the phrase “not my cup of tea” for all teas I don’t like.
Jenny says
Haha I actually like to mix raw oats and yogurt and then eat it straight. I like the chewiness! But I always add some mashed banana!
Hannah says
Isn’t it lovely making time to watch something you really love over a bowl of something delicious? I did that with a mushroom pilaf and True Blood last night 🙂
Caz says
earl grey is the best tea ever! I grew up with Twinings Earl grey and nothing can beat it
Katherina @ Zephyr Runs says
I was wondering about spicy tea, because I thought you hated one chai but loved another chai! That’s how I am, I hate black chai but love red chai.
Emily says
I was actually surprised at what girl went home.. I felt like she usually had better dances and comments then the other one.. But I don’t dance so what do I know?! 🙂
KathEats says
I agree, but I think she also didn’t “connect with America” as well -she was in the bottom 3 more I think?
