Summatime. I love this picture. Totally capturing boy life! Gus wants to be a human too. He tried so hard to play by snapping at the water balloons and chasing the ones that fell but didn’t pop.
You should never fill up water balloons the old-fashioned way again. These self-filling, self-tying balloons are the BOMB!! AKA the water bomb!! You can fill up 25 in about 2 minutes with zero effort. Note: they don’t keep well long term, so use ’em up before summer ends. We have a rule where the boys have to pick up all the broken pieces before I get out a new cluster to fill up. That way the driveway is not a rainbow of broken balloons at the end of the day.
Sunny-side-up oatmeal! I made some quick oats in the microwave, stirred in cottage cheese, and topped it all with banana, PB, and granola.
Lunch at Mezeh!! Heavy on the veg and eggplant : )
First summer popsicle. First black eye! (I think??) Mazen came home from school and told us a child in his class punched him! Of course, I believed him. But then the true story came out that he collided with someone on the playground. Poor guy. Poor eye.
We had Thomas’s mom over for dinner and made pizza on the Big Green Egg. Pizza perfection!
Look at him serving salad <3 Also: he took a bath before dinner and “dressed up” in a nice outfit and gelled his hair. When Nona comes over it’s a special occasion! He also was our server all night and brought us anything we needed from the kitchen: water refills, napkins, new silverware. That was a nice change!
He also decorated the table for us with one of mom’s paintings and a plant he brought home from school.
A little wisdom for your hump day:

I’ve never had a true water balloon fight in my life – there’s just too little outdoor space in the city where I live. It sounds so fun (and a great way of getting your exercise in too!) 🙂

Could you please share how you make pizza on the Green Egg? We have tried a few times, but never been successful.
KathEats says
I’ll have to check with Thomas on that one. We used Whole Foods pizza dough, made the pizza on a peel, slide it on using some cornmeal to help, and then cooked it on a very hot egg (but I don’t know the exact temp)
Cassie says
Whole Foods has the best pizza dough. We’ve found that you gotta use lots of cornmeal otherwise it won’t slide. We’ve had a few mishaps while we learn. 😀 As for temps, 500-700. Most Green Egg recipes that we’ve seen say in the 500s but pizzerias have their ovens at 700. Apparently it makes a big diff on how the crust turns out.
