Here’s a recap of our Thanksgiving 2020, which was low key and relaxing with beautiful warm weather. Here’s what we ate and enjoyed all weekend.
Thanksgiving 2020 was sunny and relaxing
Like many of you we didn’t get together in a big family group this year. We will see cousins, my parents, and extended fam when the time is right.
We actually didn’t know what we were going to do until the day before the holiday, but the weather was so warm and sunny we did a nice little dinner with Thomas’s parents at their home outside.
I prepared cheese boards to-go in tupperwares for each of us. (Wish I’d had pretty holiday tins!)
Birchie played toys while we relaxed with happy hour.
T’s parents made the turkey, gravy, stuffing, rutabega mash and greens from their garden. We brought a dessert-level sweet potato casserole (seriously, it was TOO sweet!!) and cranberry sauce. And guess where the cranberry sauce was? In the fridge!!! We totally forgot to get it out, but don’t worry – I’m gobbling it up as leftovers!
We also had homemade pumpkin pie for dessert with fresh whipped cream!
Special Dinner with Mazey
Mazen was with his dad and Katie this year for the weekend, so we had a special dinner the night before.
He set the table!
And we had special Blue Apron steaks with mushroom sauce and greens. So delish!!
Black Friday
I woke up on Black Friday and thought it was Sunday! The weekend was long and luxurious. I spent a lot of it like this:
Breakfast
Chores!
Games
Lunch
Thanksgiving Dinner Round II!!!
It’s always just as good the next day, don’t you agree?!
Here’s how we spent the rest of the weekend!
Berry smoothies
Turkey crafts –
My neighbor gave us some kits she had leftover from her kindergartner’s class, and they were a big hit.
Painting + PlayDoh
Lots of time outside!
Careful dad…
LEGOS
Obligatory turkey + cran sandwich
Jingle Bells
First house in Cville to have lights up. (I kid). But I was a little embarrassed when Thomas put these up before Thanksgiving – lol! He loves Christmas.

What a fun weekend! Glad your weather cooperated!
Helping with household tasks is so great for little ones, and Birch looks like he’s having a blast!! I just realized we’ve never gotten to see your laundry room! Are you lucky enough to have it on your main floor? I have to truck all the way to the basement and ugh, some days that’s just too far!
Kath Younger says
It’s in the basement! Tight into a little corner, but it does the job : ) The best part is a sliding barn door to close it off!
Krissy says
Oh wow! I’d love to see it sometime! Sounds awesome : )
Patricia says
Do you mind sharing where the white storage cabinet (behind the salad ;-0) is from?
Kath Younger says
It’s from Crate + Barrel circa 2007. Similar to this one.

Definitely not the first house in Cville to have your lights up, even though it feels that way! I think everyone is feeling festive a bit early this year and our entire neighborhood in Crozet is all lit up and most have been for a week now.
Eliza says
Would your mother-in-law be willing to share her rutabaga mash recipe? They’re definitely an underrated vegetable!
And I’m also curious about the laundry room! 🙂 Any plans to move your laundry hookups into your fantastic new fitness room?
Kath Younger says
Haha no then it would be a laundry room and not a fitness room 🙂
