You know what the best/worst part of the bakery is?
The Savannah bar crumbles.
And the Cosmic brownie edges. Just ask Allie!
SO HARD not to nibble too much!!
Today I had a few nibbles, but then I was tempted by a forbidden fruit…a juicy nectarine that I had for a snack along with a small hunk of Honey Whole Wheat. Honestly, it tasted better than the brownies! I can’t get enough summer fruit at the moment.
We wrapped up sales and did our thing – in record time!!! The crew cleaned in record time and I counted lots of 100s, 50s, 20s, 10s, 5s, 1s, quarters, dimes, nickels and pennies x 2 drawers in record time. And our drawers were spot on too!
I was outta there by 6:40!
Matt followed me in his car a few minutes later and passed me on the road
He often beats me home and when he hears me enter the garage he steps onto the porch, brew in hand.
His next move is always the same – an extended arm. Seeing as though it’s June and I’m almost always thirsty and hungry, I accept. Best beer sips ever!
We made dinner in record time too thanks to a bunch of leftovers and an abundant garden of eatin’
I took some of our Wild Alaskan King salmon from Saturday and heated it in the oven with a new OpenSky find –
Artichoke Parmesan Tapenade!
This was the best salmon I have ever cooked at home. I think because it’s King and King is my very favorite! The tapenade was AWESOME and gave it restaurant flavor in just 10 minutes.
Kale chips rounded out the menu
From our GARDEN!! We didn’t even have to trim the leaves since they were baby-chip size already
Lastly, a little Garlic Cheddar knot filled the carb category. Insta dinner.
Matt’s already in bed and I’m hoping to get some great reading in tonight. I’ve had to skip it the past two for staying up too late!
Cross your fingers for no rain tomorrow – I am determined to bike!
Holly @ The Runny Egg says
I’m about to go read for a while too — it is the best way to unwind from a long day!
Dinner looks delicious and so do the Cosmic brownie edges — I love crispy brownie hunks!
Grace @ Healthy Dreaming says
That dinner looks delicious! I haven’t ever had tapenade over salmon before but it sounds amazing!
Monika @ Powered By Paprika says
What kind of beer does your husband have in hand?
Mmm kale chips, just had some with my dinner as well 🙂
KathEats says
His German homebrew – it was a wheat something, high alcohol
Monika @ Powered By Paprika says
he should do a guest post on his homebrews!
Mark says
I second this.
Jessica says
I third it!
I have been very interested in homebrewing since my brother started. He is working on a honey strawberry wheat right now.
Amy says
How many miles is it from home to bakery? I so wish I could ride to my work! 30 miles each way…..would extend the work day by wayyyyyyyyyyyy too many hours 🙁 You are lucky!
KathEats says
About 3 [very hilly] miles
Dot says
I love that you opened a bakery!
If one was to go into a GH for the first time, what should they buy?
KathEats says
Dakota, High Five, Cinnamon chip!
Allie (Live Laugh Eat) says
Don’t forget Popeye and Cheddar Garlic!!
Dot says
Thanks!
I am going tomorrow to check it out!
VEGirl says
I am so jealous of your summer fruit– it still feels like a blustery spring up here (and normally we get 70-80 degrees by this time of year. Global warming, I’m telling you– it’s messing with the weather!). Although we are moving to the east coast (Michigan) next weekend (from Washington state), so maybe there will be some better produce there!
Annie says
VEGirl – you’ll be just in time for blueberries, peaches, and cherries when you get to Michigan! Enjoy.
VEGirl says
oh, thanks for the heads up! SOOOO EXCITED!
Katelyn says
Are those Cheddar Garlic Knots from GH? I WANT SOME!
KathEats says
Yup!
Ashley @ Coffee Cake and Cardio says
Way to go Matt!!! That’s awesome that he’s in bed already. Does he normally go to bed that early? I actually like that my BF and I have different sleeping patterns. He tends to sleep in where as I get up pretty early. It gives me time to clean, blog, workout, read, etc. It’s my “me time”.
Vanessa says
I want those knots so bad! I love how you and Matt never seem to get sick of each other, from working together to being at home together. Kudos to you guys 🙂
Allie (Live Laugh Eat) says
Crumbles and edges deserve a place in tummies too, ya know!
Are we allowed to sell fruit at the bakery? Like apples and bananas…AND oranges?
KathEats says
We should. I’m worried it would go bad too fast. We should test it out as a special!
Gina @running to the kitchen says
Delicious looking salmon! Wild Alaskan king is my fav too. We have a local fish place that sells it insanely cheap too (like$14.99 a pound) I try and get it at least once a week 🙂
Emily @ One Sweet Vegan says
I’m jealous of all your bakery eats!!
Simply Life says
way to go with the biking!
Jennifer says
The title of this post is awesome. I LOVED Temptation Island in college!! Gotta love those guilty pleasures…
Susan says
lol…that’s what I thought of when I saw the title, too!
KathEats says
I watched it too!! Summer of my sophomore year. What a trashy show but it was good!
Cait @ Beyond Bananas says
Yay for all the record time! Glad your drawers were right on, as well!
I don’t know how I would be able to handle all of the temptations of working in a bakery!!
The Healthy Hipster says
I couldn’t agree more about those crispy edges! Me and my sister used to fight tooth and nail over the crunchy corners of the brownie pan…Wait…did I say used to… 😉
Jessica @ The Process of Healing says
Lately I can’t enough of reading!! It’s like an escape from this world 🙂
Ally at AGIHK says
Just wanted to let you know I was searching for guitar chords for a Mumford and Sons song and your face popped up! It was an add for Open Sky! Random and neat! 🙂
KathEats says
🙂
Maria @ Beautiful Busy Bee says
You should cut up the edges of bars and give them to customers as samples!
KathEats says
But the brownies themselves are even better!!
Donna says
Nothing is as amazing as the Savannah bars. So decadent.
Amanda (The Nutritionist Reviews) says
Summer fruit is amazing right now! Especially stone fruit.
Laura Jane @ Recovering Chocoholic says
All your talk about the Savannah bars makes me wish I could eat them. I think it would be super hard not to much all day working at a bakery.
Stephanie @cookinfanatic says
I adore those Gracious Gourmet products, they are amazing! The chile red pepper tapenade is so good when stirred into a homemade veggie soup fyi 😉 !!!
Miranda @ Working Mom Works Out says
Dinner looks great. You deserve some reading time. I hope you get it.
We’ve had some bad storms here in Bama tonight. It’s probably moving your way.
Abby says
Oh my gosh that tapenade sounds to die for! Glad the drawers were spot on today! Much less stressful I’m sure! 🙂
Kate (What Kate is Cooking) says
Hope it doesn’t rain on you tomorrow! I’ve started biking to work, and we get June gloom every morning- all the mist ruins my hair!
Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife says
That garlic knot looks amazingly delicious!! And those kale chips <—-yumm 🙂
staceyhealthylife says
Great dinner. When cooking salmon in the oven does it make your house smell fishy?
KathEats says
Maybe just a little?
Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga says
Glad you rocked the salmon…best ever! That’s high praise! Now you just have to top yourself next time 🙂
The Artichoke Parmesan Tapenade sounds delish as do brownies and perfect edge pieces.
YUM! Have a great night Kath!
kaila @ healthy helper! says
I would totally be tempted all the time too surrounded by all that goodness 24/7!!!
That dinner looks awesome….loving the salmon!
Hilary says
I totally hear you about crumbles/corners of squares..they are seriously DANGEROUS for me!
JenATX says
I’ve found that I have to just let myself give into temptation & eat the brownie/cookie that’s tempting me & then after awhile I’m over it and almost never think about that brownie. It’s what works for me but it doesn’t work for everyone!
Justeen @ Blissful Baking says
How nice that Matt greets you on the porch offering a drink! It must be a nice way to come home 🙂
Sam says
I had more than an edge from a Cosmic Brownie. I came in Monday evening after work & decided chocolate would make the crappy day disappear. Those brownies are so freaking good.
KathEats says
Yum! Sorry I missed you!
Pamela says
So your story about Matt tonight is just totally adorbs. He is precious. You’re a lucky gal!
lynn @ the actor's diet says
if i had a great harvest, it was seriously just be muffin for breakfast, sandwich for lunch, sandwich for dinner. i admire your ability to still keep the blog (and your diet) varied!
Abby White@Eat, Drink and Be Aware says
Okay Kath… I had to go to our local Great Harvest Bread today to get a Savannah Bar and try the High Fiber Five Bread after drooling over your blog for so long. Delish! The Savannah Bar is incredible and I love the High Fiber Five. I wish I could pop into your location and say hi and thank you but this will have to do for now! You can check out my post at www.eatdrinkandbeaware.blogspot.com.
KathEats says
My two favs!!
Kelli H (Made in Sonoma) says
I gotta say, your dinner tonight looks bomb! I haven’t had salmon in a few weeks and I’m craving it again.
Hannah says
You two are just the sweetest couple.
Alaina says
Now that looks like a great scene to come home to: husband with brew in hand. 🙂
J3nn(Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) says
I love salmon and it looks so good, but I couldn’t take my eyes off of that roll!!
amanda says
HAHA omg I just went on tmz.com and on the side bar there was an opensky ad with your picture on it! tmz knows me well lol
Melissa @ HerGreenLife says
I think I saw that ad flash in my Yahoo mail the other day. It was there and gone so quickly, I half thought I imagined it, but maybe not!
Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table says
I don’t know how you do it with all those delicious-looking snacks around! Good for you snacking on fruit!
Angel7 says
How nice of Matt to think that you might be thirsty when you get home 🙂
I made crispy kale a few weeks ago, and it did not turn out right, because I drizzled extra virgin olive oil over it, and it made it flimsy and not crisp. So, the other day I watched your video on how to make kale chips, and when I made them, they turned out crispy and yummy! Our 3 year-old daughter will even eat them, so I am very thrilled about that. Thanks for making a how-to video on how to make them!
What are the nutritional benefits of eating kale?
http://faithfulsolutions.blogspot.com/
KathEats says
Oh glad it worked right eventually!
Noya - gluttonandstudent says
that artichoke tapenade is SO delicious! i used to work in an olive oil store that carried that product, and we used to have it out for sample. my boss thought the reason we had to refill the sample so many times was because it was a popular product… I knew that we had to refill it so many times because I was eating all of it!
Khushboo says
Mmm love tapenade! Expensive maybe but just a bit of gourmet condiments can change a meal completely! I just got my hands on a bottle of truffle oil and it adds an insane flavor!
Laura @ ASwissAmericanLife says
Your little life is so cute! I love how Matt comes out and offers you some of his beer. 🙂
Jennifer says
Here’s hoping for no rain. 🙂 That is so awesome that you can bike to and from work.
That salmon looks so delicious. I never realized there was a difference in taste.
I noticed you mentioned the “carb” for dinner. Do you aim to eat a protein, carb, and veggie at every meal? We changed to eating healthier about a month ago and my husband said that we need to eat a balanced meal which includes the protein, carb, and veggie. Is he right? Hopefully, not…because I hate admitting that. (haha)
I hope today goes just as smoothly as yesterday. 😉
KathEats says
Yes, that’s what I consider a balanced meal! Also a bit of fat and sub fruit for the veggie at breakfast and snacks (or if you’re a veggie omelet kinda girl..)
mtnbluebird says
I was curious about your calcium intake. I noticed that you use milk in your overnight oats but what about the rest of the day? With so much emphasis on osteoperosis and prevention in women I was wondering if you have other calcium sources to meet the RDA?
KathEats says
I eat a lot of yogurt and greens too – both are good sources. And I almost always have milk or cottage cheese or yogurt for breakfast. I take a multivitamin about every other day as well.
Laura @ Cook Knit Run says
Those tapanades look amazing. Especially the fennel blood orange variety!
Jumanah @ Healthy Living in the Middle East says
The tapenade with salmon looks super yummy! I love salmon!
Molly @ RDexposed says
A few things…
1. We had a big salad for dinner last night and I couldn’t help to think how good some GH bread would have gone with the meal. I always forgot about our GH!
2. I love that our boys are so passionate about beer! I never would have discovered it on my own.
3. Salmon is my favorite protein and I need to recreate yours tonight!
Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat says
Hey Kath! This is totally unrelated to this post, but remember a little while ago (I think it was during your home neat home series), you posted a link to a home organization blog? Can you give me the link again? I thought I had it bookmarked but can’t find it now. Thanks! 🙂
KathEats says
Bowlful of Lemons??
Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat says
Hmm… not sure if this was it because I remember it looking different, but thanks for sharing this one anyway – it’s got some great ideas! 🙂
Mary Frances says
Did you try clicking on the picture of ‘Home Neat Home’ on the right column of every blog Kath does? There are a few over there — Races, The Bears, Blogroll, Favorite Posts, Blog Events…it is just above the picture and link for her Shaklee Products.
Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin says
I love salmon, but I don’t think I’ve ever had King salmon before. Actually, I don’t even know if I’ve ever seen it in stores or restaurants. I want to try it!
Nikki says
.. and I’m hungry and thirsty now.
Quit it with your amazing meal blogs. 😉
I’m totally kidding. Don’t quit.
Ash @ Good Taste Healthy Me says
haha your title made me think of that show Temptation Island. Did you ever watch that? Couples go to an island to be tempted by “local hotties.” How dumb is that? I was totally sucked in. I guess I just enjoy dumb tv, haha!
KathEats says
Admittedly, yes!
Marissa says
I made kale chips for the first time the other day! Umm… YUMMM.
Gina (Yogattude) says
I can’t wait for the day I am able to grow a garden! Apartment living for now…
Sonia (the Mexigarian) says
mmmmm that garlic cheese knot looks yummy. love them carbs.
