My Eye-Fi card stuck me between a rock and a hard place tonight.
[I swear these cards are both the best and worst thing to happen to memory card technology…]
My photos got 100% stuck on the card when everything I plugged it into said it was “not formatted.” First my computer gave me the error, then my camera itself. I had no choice but to re-format – and therefore delete – everything.
LUCKILY all we had for dinner tonight was pizza and salad leftovers!! So I didn’t have much to show. I cannot imagine if this would have happened after some special event!
ALSO LUCKILY I do have one photo to share – the amazing frozen yogurt snack I got on a downtown after a meeting!
Thin Mint, Coconut and Peanut Butter with Heath and Butterscotch. What a lovely afternoon!
Jen says
Is the fro yo thick or thinner like soft-serve?
KathEats says
It is soft serve
Ashley @ Coffee Cake and Cardio says
Sorry to hear about your Eye-Fi. Man oh man, I can’t wait to have frozen yogurt after this detox. Just a treat here and there in moderation!! So excited.
Kristen @ Change of Pace says
I just got a new camera and debated on the eye-fi card. The sales lady at best buy actually told me not to buy one. She said they are slow and unreliable so I opted for a normal memory card. I still don’t know if I made the right choice!
KathEats says
Gah – it’s so hard to say!! Most of the time I LOVE it, but when it decides to break, it breaks!
Katelyn Block says
I remember when you mentioned the card once — dead serious, the idea freaks me out! Froyo for. the. win.
domesticallyinept says
I got an eye-fi card for Christmas (after reading your blog) and so far it’s fabulous! Hope it stays that way! That yogurt looks delicious!
Jana @ Newly Wife Healthy Life says
Yum! I love frozen yogurt as a snack! It’s yogurt so it must be healthy right..? Healthy for the soul at least!! Glad to see you must be feeling a little bit better to be out and about this afternoon! 🙂
Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife says
Thin mint fro yo?! SIgn me up 🙂
Susan H. @ The Food Allergy Chronicles says
Thank goodness for small miracles. My favourite frozen yogurt is the kind that the machine presses the frozen berries into the frozen yogurt…strawberry blueberry is a fav.
Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) says
Technology can be so frustrating! Good save with the froyo! Have a great night Kath!
Lexi @ Cura Personalis Foodie says
Frozen yogurt is my savior when technology goes wrong 🙂
Maria @ Sinfully Nutritious says
Technology…can’t live with it, can’t live without it.
Ice cream looks sooooo good.
kathleen @ the daily crumb says
i have such a love-hate relationship with technology. sometimes it makes life soooo much easier, but others it is nothing more than a pain in my butt!
Christine @ Oatmeal in my Bowl says
Just one of those camera days… I’ve done something similar before. What can you do but try, try, again with a new event. 😉
Now I am craving frozen yogurt. LOL
Angel7 says
Technology can surely have some glitches at the most inopportune times 🙁
At least you did not lose a bunch of pictures!
I would be devastated if I lost all my pictures on my camera, because I have not backed them up yet!!!

The Mrs @ Success Along the Weigh says
That STINKS about the pics. I think you would hear my head explode if that happened to me. A good reminder to constantly back up especially after events. I tend to take them for granted.
Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga says
Ugh, tech glitches are the worst. There is nothing worse than losing pics! I have lost tons in my day; usually just of food, but there have been some vacation/family/kiddo pics that I were deleted/lost in a computer crash. Such a bad feeling and even though things were backed up, or so I thought, they weren’t fully backed up.
Good luck with the ole Eye-Fi tomorrow!
Mara @ What's for Dinner? says
I swear, I’m never going back to my Eye-Fi card! I got a Class 10 SD card for my camera, and it records and transfers data so much faster!!!
Keri says
I’m pretty sure your non-pictures are better than the ones I take with my ancient camera. Even with no pics, I think pizza & salad might be on the menu for Friday night! Cheers 🙂
Sara says
hey kath,
i was wondering — what is the calorie count like on those fro-yos? i love it, but i find portion control so hard (especially when you can’t really tell how much is a serving and/or serve yourself) — any tips on how not to go overboard?
Elisabeth says
I have the same problem! I love it too much & get too large of a serving. Actually, I really can’t eat ‘sweets’ at all or I just go overboard 😉
KathEats says
Hey Sara,
Frozen yogurt is relatively low – from 90-150 per half cup. So my advice (which I do not always follow) is to have a good serving of yogurt and go easy on the candy toppings.
Gina @ Running to the Kitchen says
Ahh technology, it always seems to have the last laugh. I just had a mini panic attack pressing the *update* button on WordPress thinking it was going to mess with me! Haha
At least you had the fro-yo, which looks delicious by itself 🙂
Ziv Gillat says
Kath ,
The card should never fail you like that. If after you format it in your camera, it does it again, please contact our Support line .
Thx,

Ziv,
Thanks for stopping by. Hopefully it won’t give me any more trouble!
Khushboo says
That’s so irritating about the memory card! At least the fro yo pic was saved 😀
Kelly @ Vegolosophy says
mmmmm thin mint!!!!! That sounds d-e-l-i-c-i-o-u-s
Stacy @ Say It With Sprinkles says
You’re really killing me with the yummy looking frozen treats!
J3nn(Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) says
This happened to my eye-fi after a huge foodie event –Xmas eve dinner! After blogging about it, eye-fi contacted me immediately and offered to restore what was lost. I couldn’t trust it again, so I do it the old fashioned way ever since.
Lauren @ Oatmeal after Spinning says
As a photography teacher, this seems to be the story of my life (with students). Things got accidentally deleted or lost all the time. That’s what makes me miss darkroom photography- you take a picture on film, and it’s there forever.
(But digital is wonderful in so many ways too, of course)
Hope @ With A Side Of Hope says
Oh no! I’m sorry to hear about your memory card! I think fro-yo is the cure to everything. 🙂
Cait's Plate says
Sometimes technology can be the best thing ever…and other times it can be the worst! I think the froyo was the more exciting picture anyway 😉
Kavi @ Lab to Fab says
I’ve never heard of Eye-Fi before, but after clicking on that link, I’m intrigued! I’ll be traveling abroad for several months this year, and this could be an easy way to save my photos when I don’t have computer access!
KathEats says
I actually wouldn’t recommend it for traveling 🙁 It requires you to set up every wifi network that you encounter and you can only have one at a time – although I could be wrong and there could be travel kinds that use cellular networks now, but mine stays connected to my home network only and I don’t use it when I travel 🙁
Kavi @ Lab to Fab! says
Oh ok — thanks for letting me know!
lee says
Was there an option to continue without the reformat? One of my memory cards sometimes pops that error up, but I’m able to bypass it to download my photos, and then reformat it afterwards.
Regardless, glad the problem was fixed! =)
KathEats says
I’ve had it do that with my camera before, and you’re right – I can just take it in and out. But this was a different, more serious problem and my computer wouldn’t accept it either 🙁
Amelia says
Uh oh – I asked for the eye-fi card for Christmas per your recommendation (along with Adobe Lightroom!) and am about to set it up…hope this doesn’t happen to me! Sorry for your snafu – so frustrating when technology doesn’t live up to it’s normal might.
Mary says
Thin mint fro yo? Yum!
Sarah says
I got an EYE FI card for christmas! Knock on wood but so far so good! I hope i don’t experience anything like that, i would CRYYYY
Luv What You Do says
Just got the same card!
Would love to hear how you use it and handle the frustrating situations!
Allison says
That sounds like like fro-yo cookie heaven!
