For my lack of sleep last night, I sure have had energy today! And I seem to be pretty much back on East Coast time.
Cue the 4pm snack:
I ate up yogurt with Jam According to Daniel and Saint Cupcake granola after my doctor’s appointment.
The appointment was just routine with nothing new to report.
Blood pressure good. Pee good. Weight good. Fundal height measuring on time at 28 weeks. Baby’s heartbeat pumping to 144 bmp.
Doctor said my glucose test and blood work were perfect – she didn’t even mention the low iron. I brought it up and she told me to add that third vitamin and eat real [iron-rich] food – that I was not low enough to need a separate iron supplement. Glad we were on the same page! I asked about my shooting nerve pain too and she said it was just related to stretching and was not concerned. My yoga teacher said it was likely a nerve pinched between my fascia while I was twisting in my sleep – that makes sense and matches where and what I felt.
I headed downtown for yoga this evening and found the scene like a Friday night – so many people out and about! New restaurant!!!
Yoga was grand, per usual:
And then guess what we did!?
Thai take-out! The fridge is empty and Matt and I debated a garden salad, but we have little protein in the house (and I wasn’t in the mood for beans or canned fish). Plus he was working at a new market we were invited to, so dinner wouldn’t have been ready until 8:00 – too late. I’ve been craving curry for a few weeks now, so I suggested Thai. We used to get it all the time in college! Green curry was my favorite. So Matt ordered it from Downtown Thai while I was in yoga and I picked it up on my walk home! [Damn, take-out is expensive!]
Very glad we got it though because either coincidence or psychological because I was carrying my dinner, I was STARVING when I walked in the door. I think I would have just dove into a bowl of cereal if we hadn’t gotten this!
We ended up getting a Tofu Green Curry and a Red Beef Curry, both with brown rice.
The Tofu Green was actually kind of disappointing – the tofu was very, very fried and hollow and the curry a bit weak on the green spectrum. The Beef Red was really good though! However, both sauces were kind of curdled. Not my favorite experience with Thai Still tasted good though, and I appreciated the brown rice option.
I am hoping a protein-packed handful of almonds before bed tonight will keep me happily dreaming away tonight, as I suspect hunger has something to do with my sleeplessness. That and just being totally uncomfortable!

I have not heard good things about Downtown Thai. We are HUGE Thai 99 people 🙂
KathEats says
Oh where is that one? I was going to try Monsoon next!
Lindsey @ Pas de Deux says
I’ve enjoyed Downtown Thai many times in the past, but my most recent visit was really disappointing–they messed up our order (both dishes) and the service was terrible. Monsoon is next on my list, too!
Hillary B says
Agreeing about Downtown Thai. Ate there recently and was not very impressed – they packaged my leftovers sloppily and they ended up spilling all over my purse. 🙁 It’s also a lot more expensive than its competitors. Monsoon is DELICIOUS, and in my opinion, better than Thai ’99. I’ve heard great things about Lime Leaf (in the Lowe’s shopping center), but it’s too far for me to trek on a regular basis! I also used to really like Lemongrass (on 14th st) when I was in college, but haven’t eaten there in years. Ha, can you tell I really like Thai food? 🙂
KathEats says
Let’s have Monsoon together next week!

I haven’t had thai food in forever!!! But I did make a curry for dinner earlier this week! Coconut curry to be exact 🙂
donna says
Ewwwww! That take out food looks bad! I think I would’ve chunked it in the trash and made me something from my fridge or pantry!
KathEats says
Well it tasted great – and I was starving!
Jess says
Oh my gosh NO!! Thai 99 rocks my face off!! It is kitty corner to Fry’s Springs Pizza. Right by Wayside Chicken on JPA/Fontaine!
KathEats says
Ahhh no where near us 🙁 That takes the convenience out of take-out! But maybe we will give it a try sometime there for the experience 🙂
Katie @ Peace Love & Oats says
your thai food looks so good! And I feel like Asian takeout always seems more expensive!
Jess says
Valid point! I totally understand. I have NEVER gotten delivery in my life!!!! 26.9 years 😛
We should go there after the baby…they have cheap wine!! hehe
KathEats says
For sure!
Liz @ Tip Top Shape says
Glad to hear your doc visit went well!! Bummer the take-out wasn’t better, though 🙁
Sana says
I think the takeout looks good, glad you enjoyed dinner!

You have been posting a lot of photos of yourself with no makeup and I have to say that you have a very beautiful natural look!!
KathEats says
Well thanks so much, but I do have make-up on here 🙂

Takeout is one of those things where you want the experience of a restaurant in the comfort of your own home…but, the bill never seems to justify it, you know?! Even when we order pizza we are shocked at the price! Could have made it in the oven 10 ft from where we eat it- shucks!
Averie @ Averie Cooks says
Sorry that you paid$$ for takeout and it was a little lackluster. Frustrating. Reinforces why cooking for me, even when I’m beat, is the better option b/c that way if it’s a flop, I only have myself to blame. But you’re pregnant and just trekked across the country…I don’t blame you for trying some takeout!
Gillian G. @ When Bread Is Broken says
Ya know, I’ve almost never had a good experience with take-out Thai. It’s almost always been unpleasantly greasy, unflavorful, old-tasting, or all of the above. But I love a good Thai restaurant!
samantha @ peach in the city says
my absolute favorite thai dish is rama tofu. mostly because I have a broccoli addiction.
Khushboo says
Mega THai craving going on…especially for pad Thai!
Courtney @ Outrunning Insecurities says
I’m glad everything’s going well with your pregnancy 🙂
I’ve only ever actually had Thai food once. I like it, my dad likes it, but my mom doesn’t. And we rarely ever have a meal without my mom.
Hope @ With A Side Of Hope says
That picture of downtown looks so cute! 🙂 I’ve never had Thai food before. It’s something I’ve always wanted to try.

Boy that looks tasty! Glad you had a good Dr.’s report!
Susan H. @ The Food Allergy Chronicles says
Other than Pad Thai, I have never really tried any other Thai foods.
Alyssa (pb and oats) says
I’ve only tried Thai food once, and I was not a fan! Maybe I just tried the wrong place.
Nina says
I love Thai, but can only recommend my local joint in fl 🙂 have you heard from Caitlin? Baby time!
B @ Crags and Veggies says
I love thai food, especially curry! We usually get one green and one red curry too to balance between the cooler green and spicier red. Although we can make the green hot, it just has a nice cooling effect. We love making our own curries too, it’s so much fun with a spice grinder! Last night, we made a Thai red curry that was absolutely amazing- see here http://cragsandveggies.wordpress.com/ 🙂 Glad to see you’re doing great and baby is healthy!
Jodi @ Jodi, Fat or Not says
You guys have the cutest downtown – it must be so nice to be able to walk there!
Cait's Plate says
I haven’t had thai in so long. I need to get on that. Sometimes a night of simple takeout is just the best.
Amanda @flecksofgreen says
I have to honestly admit that I have never had Thai food! It looks very yummy in your pictures–I might have to give it try sometime 🙂
lynn @ the actor's diet says
very impressed you don’t just eat out of the containers, like i do!
Lena says
Does the tofu have wrinkly skin? If so, it’s a different kind of tofu, we call it taupok. They are generally spongy and used in curries so that they kind of absorb the curry gravy. I don’t like them either but a lot of people do and they even have firmer ones, which we slit open and stuff with cucumber and bean sprouts topped with some chilli and sweet sauce 🙂
KathEats says
Oh cool, yes it was wrinkly. I hadn’t heard that – I figured it was just majorly deep fried. I liked the texture though!
lena says
Unfortunately it’s deep fried, however, (am not sure if this is true) I am told that beancurd, tofu or any of its form is the only thing in this world that when deep fried does not absorb the oil, hence, they aren’t bad for us… 🙂 due to the inherent oil in them. (:
Ashley @ Hudson on the Potomac says
Glad to hear your appointment went well, and that you don’t need to add an iron supplement! Sorry your Thai was disappointing!! I’m not a huge Thai fan, but will eat it on occasion because the BF loves it.
Angel7 says
I can relate with you about being uncomfortable while you sleep. Last night, I did not get hardly any sleep, which was because my stomach was bothering me from last night’s dinner of BLTs and scalloped potatoes. I think all the sodium and fat from the bacon made my stomach on edge.

I lived in Thailand for 2 years, and I love Thai food! Green curry should be spicy – I agree! Sorry your Thai experience wasn’t perfect, but hopefully you can find a reasonably priced and amazing Thai restaurant. We finally found one in Atlanta.

Just have to say that that is a great picture of you. Such a pretty, fresh face. Love it!

If you ever come to Southern California, let me know and I will point you to the best green curry/pad thai you will ever taste! I swear, there’s none better 🙂
