Life is so festive when visitors are in town! Our Thanksgiving weekend continued with a hike, a picnic and a dinner at our place.
Oatmeal for breakfast – with cooked wheatberries and cottage cheese stirred in! Sunbutter and pecans on top.
We headed out after breakfast to hike the Old Mills Trail that just opened. I was thrilled to find another flat walking path, but not-so-thrilled when we got farther down to find lots of roots and mud. No good for the stroller, but still fun for a hike. {Yes there is a baby hidden in there!}
After 3.7 miles (the Garmin now lives on my stroller handlebars!) we piled into the Highlander and headed over to Veritas. It was SO fun to drive the new car – and we sure needed the space today! I sat in the very back seat and have to say it was pretty comfy all the way back there.
Andrew and Karen had not been to Vertias before, so they did a tasting.
Swirligig!
Karen chose the Chardonnay to have with our meal
We had Thanksgiving sandwiches for lunch – pork tenderloin on Cville Crunch bread.
This was one heck of a sandwich!! The bleu cheese stuffed in the tenderloin was sooo good. We got the triple cream one from Trader Joe’s and it was fantastic – marshmalloy sweet. So much better than the sour kind you often have in lower end restaurant house salads.
Plus these incredibly delicious Trader Joe’s Quinoa + Black Bean chips!
And we ended with a bag of Great Harvest cookies – it was a free-for-all-hand-in-the-bag occasion and I ate way too many!
We played around a bit before heading home.
These family photos would be great except it looks like I photoshopped my head onto someone else’s body. Why did I not take off the jacket – or at least unzip it a bit! It was 60* out there.
After we arrived home and I fed Maze his early afternoon meal, the boys hung out watching cartoons on the couch and I went out shopping!! I really didn’t want anything to do with Black Friday crowds (never have) but I wanted everything to do with the 50% off sale at LOFT today. I haven’t gone regular old clothes shopping for myself in ages, and wanted a few new items. Really happy with what I got for the $!
Piiiiizzzzaaa!
We made one with bacon, red pepper and seaside cheddar – on Matt’s whole wheat pizza dough.
And one with figs, bleu cheese and spinach – plus a honey/olive oil drizzle. My fav!
Big salad
Plus one more half a slice
Uncle Punkle!
Karen meant to bring the leftover pies over, but she forgot and we were all a bit relieved. I am definitely ready to go in post-Thanksgiving eating mode! Maybe I’ll make some vegetable juice tomorrow…

All your meals always look so amazing. I want to make pizza for dinner tonight now! Thanks for the inspiration!

I enjoy reading your blog so much (I’ve always enjoyed though!) now that your son and my daughter are just a few months apart – it’s SO fun to see what he’s doing compared to her! We have that same stroller and I think she’s big enough now to use it without the car seat, except now it’s too cold for walks! It looks like you had a great Thanksgiving – Maze gets cuter every time I see him!

Kath, I am thankful for you and this blog! Thanks for all your great work: the amazing photos, fantastic food ideas, and interesting stories. Just this morning I made date balls for the first time in preparation for a 2-hour Zumbathon. They are really tasty. Try them rolled in unsweetened cocoa powder.

Thanks!

Kath, I think Maze is starting to look jut like you! It’s so cute to see the little features develop :).

Every time you have homemade pizza I crave it all day 🙂
kate says
Are you craving a baby, too?
; )
elizabeth says
What kind of garmin do yo have? Do you like it? Any problems?
KathEats says
I have the forerunner 305, no problems, but it’s pretty old and I think there are newer, cooler models now
Krissy @ Make it Naked says
VERITAS! what a perfect day! Happy Thanksgiving!
Tiffany says
Mazen is such a cute baby 🙂
Do you know if I can use whole wheat pastry flour to make the pizza dough or do I need regular whole wheat?
Thanks!
KathEats says
Yes you can

The wine bar looks adorable- I love the Love sign in corks! I wish I went to the Loft- 50% off is a great deal, but I’m not brave enough to fight tgiv wknd shopping craziness this year
Sherri says
Wow, in that first picture of Andrew and Maze, it’s amazing how much Maze resembles his uncle.
Michelle says
Where did you find the little jacket for M? It looks so cozy and warm and I’d like one for my little pumpkin. Thanks for all the fun posts and Happy Holidays!
KathEats says
It’s old navy
Judy says
I don’t know Kath, but I think Maze looks like you now that he has lost most of his newborn-ness…
Anna @ On Anna's Plate says
That’s such a good idea to strap the Garmin to the stroller– I always forget mine, and then I remember when we’re about .5 miles out 🙂
Laura (Blogging Over Thyme) says
I definitely thought about going to Loft yesterday to take advantage of that sale too….kinda regret it now.
Also–I went to Veritas (at your recommendation) when I was in CVille and I loved it too. Beautiful setting and scenery. We picked up two bottles and are still saving them for a special occasion 🙂

Looks like a fun day! I really need to start making our own pizza. That looks so delicious!

Ok, I’ve been a terrible blog reader lately, and when I first opened up this post and looked at the first photo, I thought, “Woah, Matt looks really different!!” LOL!
Sara Lake says
I thought that too! Glad I’m not the only one…. I thought, those glasses really change his face! Ooops!
Ellie@Fit for the Soul says
ahhhh I melt! Maze is such a cute handsome lil baby! His eyes are just piercing and have a sense of~strength. haha. And you guys seriously have the best dinners, and I love your new sweater! It’s so chic yet cozy and simple.
Sarah (The Simple Dietitian) says
The beauty of intuitive eating is enjoying all the foods from the holidays and afterwards realizing that we crave vegetables, fruits, and more simple foods once again. I love that our bodies work that way, if we only take the time to listen. 😀
Your day looks and sounds positively fabulous!
Averie @ Averie Cooks says
Good for you for spending a little well-deserved $$ on some new items for yourself! Baby stuff, household stuff, etc generally reigns supreme and glad you bought a couple little things just for you – good job! 🙂 I love that sweater you’re wearing with the orange peeking out below it.
And strollers and hikes and getting caught in bumpy areas, mud – things you never think about til you’re trying to push a big BOB through one! I know!
Alisha @ Alisha's Appetite says
Your pizza looks mouth-drooling delicious!
Stefanie @ Thin Vegetarian says
I am not much for Black Friday either. This year I went out on Thursday night and snagged some great deals!
Susan H. @ The Food Allergy Chronicles says
Looks like you enjoyed a fabulous day! Pizza looks yummy as always! Love a creamy blue cheese… sounds equally delish stuffed in the pork tenderloin as it does on your pizza! 🙂
Michelle (Peachy Palate) says
Love the new outfit! New toms? Anything with figs and it wins me over…managed to find some today, so hard to find in Ireland and incredibly expensive but so worth it!

Maze really looks like you in the first pic! 🙂

It’s so cute to see how Mazen and Andrew seem to really like “hang out” together! Both look really happy and relaxed in the pictures! Your new sweater suits you very well!
Katie @ Talk Less, Say More says
Those pics of Maze and Andrew are so cute. Both of them! 😉
Sara Lake says
Isn’t it great when Aunties and Uncles come to visit? Children just seem to sense that they are connected to this person and the parents are quite happy to let go (a little bit).
Marissa says
Your family is just adorable! I can’t believe you have such a small baby, you look amazing! It took me a good two years to get back to my fighting weight. : )
Louise says
Mazen is so cute!! Just a quick observaion from someone who lives far North in Europe, when the temperatures are in the 60’s, young children are in hats here. Babies are in hats, gloves and wool underwear. I see you have quite a thick jumper on yourself so you might want a few more items of clothes on that little guy seeing as he’s still so tiny. 🙂
Christina @ The Beautiful Balance says
What Garmin do you use?
KathEats says
The forerunner 305…an older model
Angel7 says
It feels like forever since I read your blog posts, Kath 🙂 After I had our second child at the end of September, time has just flown by each day. And when the kiddos are napping, I usually try to nap.
I believe that I have said it before, but Mazen has BEAUTIFUL eyes!!!
Please fill me in since I do not have time to read older posts… Did you & Matt purchase the Highlander, or is that someone else’s? I remember you were test driving one, & were looking into possibly purchasing one.
KathEats says
Hey! Long time… : ) we did get the Highlander – my other new baby! Loving it.
