Survivor spoilers below!!!
I am coming off a major caffeine – champagne – finale buzz this afternoon! Hillary and Ellen were at my house by 8am to get started on our brunch menu. I successfully stayed away from the internet and wasn’t spoiled for the fantastic ending. Whew!
As a mostly decaf drinker, I had half a mug of French pressed Drift Away Coffee the company sent me. It was sooo delicious, but made me quite woozy! I can’t believe I used to have 2 cups of coffee at once – I am so sensitive to caffeine now.
We had a scrumptious egg, cheese, bread and sausage casserole that Ellen made.
Plus bacon cooked by Hillary – (this was not a light brunch!)
Freshly baked muffins from the bakery –
And fresh fruit – mango and oranges.
And of course we all wore our Survivor buffs!
So the finale!! During the first part of this season, the “Dirty 30,” I was all about the No Collars + Shirin. But as they were voted off one by one, there was a time when I really had no idea who to root for. Then when is alliance turned against him and he befriended Shirin, Mike became my favorite. We literally screamed our way through the challenges this morning as we watched him win reward and immunity. I felt he definitely played the best game, and apparently the jury did too. Great end to the season! I do feel a little bad for Carolyn because she had such a disappointing ending (along with not making it onto Second Chances) but oh well. I bet we’ll see her again.
Second Chances made the finale SO much more exciting, and the 5 minutes when they were all getting on the show was amazingly exciting!!!!! Most everyone I wanted to get on did, with the exception of Shane. And I would have liked to see Max back too. But for the most part my favorites are on, and I absolutely cannot wait for this fall!!!
Best. Show. Ever.
Last night we went over to the Struckmann’s house for an impromptu dinner. The weather was ideal for outdoor dining.
We made little burgers on cheddar garlic rolls with grilled veggies on the side.
What did you think of the finale?! And if you don’t watch Survivor, you gotta start.

That egg casserole looks incredible!

I thought the perfect person won. There was no doubt that Mike played the best game. He dominated the challenges like no other!
Erin @ Her Heartland Soul says
What a fun brunch! I haven’t watched Survivor in years but really enjoyed it when I did!

I’ve been waiting for your survivor review!! I was doing the same thing during the challenges and couldn’t bare to watch half the time. I thought last weeks episode was awesome and couldn’t wait to see how it would all play out. Woohoo go Mike!!!
Laura says
I’m so happy Mike won – he really played the best game.
Favorite parts:
Mike strategizing with his Mom in the water – how sweet was she?
Jenn & Shirin’s speeches to the jury – the dead fish analogy was hilarious
Mike winning the final immunity necklace – i was screaming! It was also so great to see everyone playing so hard.
My one & only complaint was how much time was spent talking to Dan at the finale – Boo!
I LOVED seeing who was picked for next season – I’m beyond excited to watch.

I have to admit, the last survivor season I watched was 2000 – maybe the 2nd one? In Australia with Elisabeth Hasselback (then Filarski!) and my favorite, Roger. Your enthusiasm has me intrigued about picking it up again.
KathEats says
I just watched that season recently for the second time (also watched it in 2000ish). They were such a great cast!

i didn’t have a favorite after joe (couldn’t help but be totally charmed by the all-american boy <3) but developed a little thing AGAINST mike b/c of how badly he kept trying to get joe out. didn't hate him though, but i think i sort of wanted the mom to win, but between the two of them– i think they both would have deserved it. honestly i just dont understand how will got to the final 3 at all…… still perplexes me….

I was happy that Mike won, but for a minute there I really thought Mama C might pull out the win. Mike definitely deserved the win though. Dan, ugh, I really hope we never see him again but I doubt that will be the case. I’m also thrilled that Rodney didn’t make final three – has there ever been a more ungrateful cast member?! I already can’t wait for the next season. Do you ever watch Big Brother? In some ways I like it even more than Survivor because social play is even more important than it is in Survivor. You should give it a try this summer!
KathEats says
I don’t watch it but I bet I’d like it. Gotta finish all 30 survivors first!
Liz says
All 30, that’s impressive!! Where do you find all the old seasons? I’d love to watch them too. I didn’t start watching until probably a third of the way through. I can’t even remember the first season that I watched!
KathEats says
Seasons 9 through 30 are on Vudu for $9.99 each so I buy them. (The cost of a single movie ticket!) a lot of them are also on Amazon prime for free and some on You Tube. I own the first 3 on DVD

Loved the finale. Love Mike! I don’t know that many people who watch Survivor anymore so it was fun to read your blog and feel your excitement. I was rooting Mike on (loudly) for the last few weeks alone in my family room! 🙂
KathEats says
they were #1 in the ratings again so I think a lot of people are still watching!!
I was rooting loudly too : )
