Of all the fun foods that Mazen and I prepare together, smoothies are his favorite. Most likely because he loves pushing the blender buttons!
Anyone who has ever cooked with kids knows that there will inevitably be a spill, in one way or another. Dripping sauces, sticky fingers or flinging sunflower butter flung everywhere – kids always manage to spread a little mess around. But of course, that’s all part of the fun!
A Costco opened in Charlottesville this year, and so Mazen and I took a trip to join it. This was perfect timing because I needed to get some Bounty Advanced Paper Towels for this recipe! Select-A-Size for the win!
While sunflower butter ended up on the cabinets and on the back of Mazen’s PJs, my little helper knew exactly how to clean it up.
We always turn our smoothies into popsicles, so this Super Green Smoothie Bowl is also a popsicle recipe! I let Mazen have popsicles morning, noon and snacktime because ours are always packed with superfoods and have no added sugar. This one in particular has two cups of greens and half an avocado – super green!
“Can I push it now Mommy? Now?!”
Drip, drip, drip!
I love to serve my smoothies in bowls – eating them with a spoon feels so luxurious!
This one’s texture is thick and pudding-like thanks to lots of oats, chia seeds and all that creamy avocado.
Thanks to Bounty Advanced Paper Towels for sponsoring this post!

+1 This was well done! and we got some recipe inspiration. With this hot weekend coming up, I think all my meals need to be smoothie bowls.

That’s so clever to use it as a popsicle recipe, too!! How great that Mazen is so excited about healthy, green foods 🙂

Hi Kath. I’ve been a reader for quite some time…since about 2012, and I’ve read most of the archives before that. I really feel like this blog has changed from a focus on healthy eating and living sustainably to something I just don’t connect with. That’s fine–people change over time. But you might consider rebranding this space and being more upfront with what it is. Years ago, you wouldn’t have been writing a sponsored post about paper towels. The products you were using and reviewing were much more eco-friendly. It’s truly become a lifestyle blog that documents your meals out and time spent with friends. If that’s where you’re at, that’s fine. I’m disappointed that your focus has changed so dramatically in the past 6 years, but again, it’s your space, and this blog is no longer for me.

Another long time reader here! I think the focus of Kath’s blog is definitely still healthy eating and healthier lifestyles. I think it’s just reality that if we want Kath to blog as often as she does – she must accept sponsored posts. They don’t bother me – to be honest I didn’t even notice it was sponsored. I just liked the idea of making smoothie ice lollies 🙂

This recipe looks amazing!! I used to use a ton of paper towel, but now that I have a kiddo and have so many cloth diapers to wash on hot, it’s truly just as easy for us to use cloth towels, and much easier on the environment and our wallets. We still keep paper towel around for dog messes though – ain’t no way I’m going to let that stuff touch my nice stained kitchen towels 😉

Yes, so easy to have a little wash cloth on hand for things like this!

Love green smoothies! They are such a great and tasty way to get in a mixture of fruits and vegetables! Not to mention, they are an extremely refreshing way to start an 80 degree day!

I understand the temptation to go the disposable route, especially with little ones around, but it makes me sad to see kids learning to clean up with something disposable instead of something reusable, and for that to be promoted here is a bummer 🙁

I love reading blogs – especially yours, Kath. I’m reading them without a cost and I know there is so much work that goes behind every post. So, thank you!
Blog sponsorships, allow me to enjoy the free posts and I don’t mind them one single bit. I’m glad you’re able to make a living off of blogging and I hope you enjoy writing them as I love reading them.
Keep it up!

We use paper towels and rags at our house! I prefer to use rags (I make them by cutting up my husband’s old undershirts) and my husband is always using paper towels. To each their own! I try to get him to use a rag but he never seems to remember.
