The sun is finally out!!!!! My mood went from in the gutter to sky high in a matter of 3 cloud-moving minutes.
We got our workout in – 30 minutes on the Stairmaster with Body + Soul (my new favorite magazine) plus some ET and some abs. I was on schedule to lift weights today but my upper body is a little sore from pull-ups on Thursday, so I’m holding off until Monday morning.
I settled down to lunch around 1:00 with a Sunshine burger, salad and some crackers. I decided I DO NOT like Sunshine burgers!! I don’t care if the ingredients say there are no onions, I taste onion in every bite. Blech. I’ll make the husband eat the last one.
But I still managed to eat the whole burger 🙂 On my delicious Food For Life sprouted grain buns. They are on the dry side, but I just love how big and luscious they are for 150 kcal and an excellent nutritional profile! Topped with cucs, pickles, some Guilden’s Zesty mustard and ketchup:
I pulled together some leftovers to make a quick salad – spinach, cucs, 1/2 a cup of leftover carrot/pineapple salad, some extra pineapple and balsamic vinegar. It was quite a fun combo of flavors!
Lastly, I had just a few Honey Sesame TLC crackers –
The infamous ‘from above’ shot with some iced tea –
This lunch was about 525 kcal, 12 grams of fiber and 18 grams protein.
We’re off to the grocery store then who knows!

That is funny you still tasted onions in the burger!! Its a conspiracy I think 😀

I eat veggie burgers all the time, but for whatever reason I cannot STAND Sunshine burgers. They just don’t taste right to me and I love onions. I’m glad I’m not the only one. I’ve heard so many other people rave about how good they are. ew.

That bun looks absolutely delicious. I’m thinking I need to look for those!
I just found your blog and I’m looking forward to exploring more!

Kath-when you’re eating something you don’t like, do you just keep eating it or do you throw it out? If I cooked it, I will eat it cause I refuse to waste food, but why eat something if I’m not going to enjoy it??
Christine says
Hey Kath,
Can you tell me what kind of kitchen scale you use? Do you like it? Thanks so much and have a great weekend!
Christine

hey kath – i cant believe you can get up so early, even when you dont have to!! I wish I could do that!
What time do you usually go to bed? And do you always go to bed at about the same time or do you stay up later on the weekends?
thanks – love your blog, keep up the great work!!!

What is the “ET” you always speak of at the gym?? I’m thinking it’s elliptical?….

I went to the grocery today and they have new Kashi crackers 🙂 Garden vegetable…yummy!

I love veggie burgers….but I have to say that one looks very unappealing. The ones i get at least look a little like a burger, the green color of that looks a bit like lawn clippings 🙁

Kath – It’s so funny you say this today, I just had a totally similar lunch! I picked up a pack of Sunshine Burgers today after you and Jenna have been eating them. I really liked them; I think Jenna mentioned they were a bit pricey, but they were $2.49 for a pack of 3 at my health food store. I also had them on the Food for Life bun, but my nutrition panel said 170 cals for the original. Are you eating a different type?
But on to my question du jour: 2 weeks ago I stepped on the scale and found to my shock that I had lost 7 lbs! I was so excited, and decided to weigh my self two weeks later to track my progress. All was going well until about this Wednesday. I didn’t think I was freaking out, but I kept thinking about it. Come Friday night dinner, I ordered an eggplant and spinach wrap (hold the mayo) and exchanged the chips for greens. My bf and I split a pecan tart (which was amazing and totally satisfying). Then for some reason, when we got home, I waited until my bf went into the bedroom, and I stuffed about 7 pieces of Valentine’s chocolate into my mouth. I knew I was completely satisfied from dinner – it was like an out of body experience, I couldn’t stop myself. This morning I woke up and predictably weighed in at +3 from two weeks ago. I realize that I totally sabotaged myself. Did you ever have any experience with this? Do you have any ideas on how to prevent this from happening again?
Romina says
I’ve never heard of Sunshine burgers. Maybe that’s a good thing! Sorry to hear you didn’t like it. But the rest of your meal looks way better!
Steph says
This question is for Kath and any reader who wants to give their experience too!
When you have splurge meals/treats…do you find that it tends to be when you are pre-meanstrual and pmsing, as opposed to other times during the month?
I know for me, looking back across my monthly food logs, my ‘splurges’ all tend to be bunched up the week before my period, while most other times during the month, I am less prone to cravings and can stick to my meal plans more easily.
Does anyone else experience this?
Kath, do you find your splurges tend to fall around the same time every month?
Katers says
Steph – that’s so funny, if you read my post above, I had a major splurge last night, and I’m in the week before my period too! That probably had something to do with it. I definitely crave bread and chocolate before my period.
Kelly L. says
Katers- You didn’t put on 3 lb from one night I assure you. You would have had to have eaten 11,500 calories ON TOP of wha tyou normally eat. It’s just water retention. Perhaps your meal had a lot of sodium. Weight can fluctuate 5 lbs. in a day in some cases. Don’t worry. You might find that you actually lose more this week. Sometimes little splurges here and there get your metabolism going even faster. 🙂
Kelly L. says
Sorry for the math error- I meant 10,500 calories… Ooops.
Katers says
Thanks KellyL! Yeah, I know it was mostly water, I was just hoping for a loss. Sometimes it seems the harder I try to track my body, the wackier it behaves. 😛

The sun is finally shining here, too! And there was a huge buck in my backyard today standing in the snow, amongst the trees, it was so pretty! It just made my whole day, plus I have like 5 new magazines to read! Yeah!
Kath says
Betsy,
If I don’t like it at all, I’ll throw it out or not eat it. But I ate today’s burger because it tasted OK overall. It really depends on the food!
Christine,
Check the FAQs and the Amazon store 😉
PPP,
I think we went to bed around 10? We usually go to bed around 9:30 on week nights and 10-11 on the weekends, unless there’s a special event. I’m totally a morning person – I get soooo tired after 9:00 that I can barely stay awake!
LaurenT,
Yet, “elliptical trainer”, which is SUCH a hard word to type for me that I just decided one day to stick with ET.
Michelle,
I’ve seen those but I think they have onion powder – ewww! But if you like veggies, I bet they’re SO good!
Katers,
I think Food for Life has several kinds of buns.
Congrats on the 7 pounds!! Please know that we have ALL had moments of eating like you described, so you’re not alone! I can totally understand when you say it was like an out-of-body experience – I have definitely had those myself, although alcohol is usually involved. Actually, alcohol is a HUGE trigger for me to binge, and once I realized this (no idea why it took me so long to make the connection!) I was able to figure out ways to work around it. It seems pretty obvious that your chocolate eating was emotion-based. I would just suggest if it happens again trying to figure out what might be triggering the overeating. Did the pecan tart get your cravings going? Did you order what you thought you should get at the restaurant rather than what you wanted and were left unfulfilled? Are you stressed out in another part of your life? Those are just some of my thoughts. Keep up the good work on the healthy eating. I had MANY slip-ups throughout my weight loss and still got to my goal!
Steph,
I do think I tend to eat more “out of character” the week before my period. My best advice is to plan a splurge that week and work around it. If you know you’ll want chocolate cake, plan an extra workout and go have a slice. Planning it out will make it seem more natural and might reduce other cravings. Or make sure all of the junk food is out of the house before the week begins!
Kath
