Happened so fast!
What do you get when you combine:
45 minutes of mowing the lawn
Being brave to fish said mower out of shed, spiders aside
Bug spray
A 30 minute walk to dinner resulting in a wet T-shirt
Corn, wine, a grill and cherries?
Summatime!
Faith + Tate invited us over for dinner tonight. Matt and I finished up our respective works and met at their house
I walked to meet them with these two bottles of wine in my backpack! They were sent to me from Casa Vinicola Zonin, an Italian family who also has a Charlottesville presence and owns Barboursville Vineyards just up the road from us. They sent me half a case of wines to test out and enjoy. Including tasting notes!
We opened the 2009 Nero d’Avola tonight – a dry red with touches of fruit and a bit of spice. It was perfect – as the description hinted – for summer BBQs. I thought it was a great red for summer
Faith was hard at work grillin’ when I strolled up –
Great Harvest bread, corn, and Tofurky!
Faith is a vegetarian and this was my first time trying Tofurky. They have a surprisingly real food ingredient list with tofu and herbs rather than isolated soy proteins.
We ate them as dogs on our bread with corn + salad
I thought it was quite good and as a [loganic] meat eater I didn’t miss meat at all
For dessert had cherries [chaaaries] with some Scuffin and Stonyfield Vanilla yogurt
And the Zonin Moscato D’asti, which was a sweet effervescent white said to be perfect with “ice cream and the accompaniment of friends.” I concur!
May the crickets sing you goodnight…
Emma @ Microcosm of Life says
I’ve never had Tofurky sausages, but I love their deli meat slices! The real food ingredient list is a sweet bonus to the amazing flavor and texture.
Sylvia @ My Attempt at Balanced Living says
True story! My hubby protested when I brought home the “weird sliced Tofurkey” but then he went and ate it ALL! 😀
Meaghan O'Connor (My Spoonful of Inspiration) says
Looks like a great, summery BBQ spread! So colorful and fun! 🙂
Hillary says
I’ve never had tofurkey, but I’ve recently thought about giving it a try. Good to hear it’s made of mostly real foods!
Cait's Plate says
That’s what I love about those Tofurky sausages…it actually seems like edible food! And I too was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed them. Felt very similar to eating a real meat-filled sausage 🙂
Love the dessert – I think you just inspired breakfast for me tomorrow! (if only I had a scuffin to throw in there!)
Heather says
Having recently gone meat free, I love those tofurky sausages..
yumm!
Glad you like them too!!!
Ash @ Good Taste Healthy Me says
Looks like an awesome time!!
staceyhealthylife says
What a great dinner, yum. Perfect for summer. Good to know about the Tofurkey being tofu and herbs versus soy. They actually look tasty all grilled up.
Kristin @ eat healthy. be happy. live well. says
I’ve never had any type of tofu before…so many bloggers have talked about how wonderful it is though! Maybe I should try it!
Amy* says
Corn on the cob is one of the best things about summer!*
Allie (Live Laugh Eat) says
Love veggie sausages! I haven’t tried the Tofurkey brand yet though.
faith says
I’m one happy griller!
Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga says
I just commented saying you looked adorable tending the grill and then I saw your comment right above mine 🙂
Angie @ Musings of a Violet Monkey says
And in a dress, no less!
Always so stylish… 🙂

Thanks ladies!
Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga says
That grilled corn looks perfect and I also love the top down shot of the red wine on the wood. Great composition.
And Faith looks adorable tending the grill 🙂
Angie @ Musings of a Violet Monkey says
I have never had Tofurky anything, despite having been a vegetarian for 5 years. However, I have recently tried several kinds of Field Roast ‘sausages’ this summer, and have enjoyed them (and their ingredient list, as well!). Yum!

kaila @ healthy helper! says
Mmmmm what a yummy grilled dinner! I especially like the grilled bread!
Alaina says
I love Moscato d’Asti! Such a great dessert wine. 🙂 And yum to the cherries! I just bought some today because they were on sale for $1.99/lb! The usual price is $5.99/lb. Score!
Katie @ Peace Love and Oats says
That all looks so delicious! And I’ve never had tofurkey, but perhaps I’ll try it now; the tofu definitely sounds more up my alley!
Jill says
Tofurky? Sounds interesting-I will have to check them out.
Margo @ peanut butter trees says
Looks like such a great summertime dinner!
Candy (Healthy in Candy Land) says
I had pretty much given up on meat “substitutes” because of their weird ingredient lists, but I might have to reconsider this brand. I’ve had a Tofurky roast before at Thanksgiving, but let’s just say, it was the last time I had one…(shudder) Sounds like the sausages might be better. Thanks for letting us know!
Lisa @ Sunny Seed Stories says
Your dessert looks like it could be a breakfast! Proving once again that they are the two best meals of the day. 🙂
Angel7 says
I am not sure if I would like the Tofurky. I would try it, though.

Perfect summer night!!!! ….Love the picture with Faith peeking in the background. So fun! Love the wine part of the evening too, winning combo; wine + friends!
Valerie says
Question: What is a loganic meat eater? I googled it to no avail…have to ask. My only guess is the root word logic?
Megan (Running Foodie) says
Local + organic, I think
KathEats says
Yep – I made a hybrid word the other day! Local + organic
Kathleen @ KatsHealthCorner says
Cherries are the BEST! 😀
Melissa says
Moscato d’Asti is my favorite– I have such a sweet tooth!
kinder says
Love. Tofurkey. Sausages. As a vegetarian I missed bbq’d hotdogs so much, but these are soooo good that they totally satisfy my craving! Yum.
Hannah says
Those stemless wine glasses blow my mind. True story.
Angela says
Loganic? That’s pretty smug and precious, even for you.
Khushboo says
Gosh delicious dinner again! Love the new layout Kath!
J3nn(Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) says
I love Tofurky! I would not miss meat at all with it. It’s so good and meaty. 🙂

The entire Grease soundtrack is basically stuck in my head. On repeat.
I’m not complainin’ 🙂

Delicious dinner and dessert 🙂

This summer has let me discover blogs. Before your blog and a few others, I would be lost right now. Healthy living blogs have literally changed my life! I just wanted to say thank you so much for doing that, even if you didn’t know! You have changed my life and I am so happy you did! THANKS SO MUCH!
KathEats says
🙂 you are so welcome!
Lauren says
I’ve always been hesitant to try tofurkey. For some reason I was thinking it was more processed than it is.
rumfunandsun says
Why is Faith so stinking cute!? 🙂 Looks like yummy fun!
faith says
LOL! Gosh, thanks!
Aine @ Something to Chew Over says
So cool that you got sent wine to try 🙂
Sara @ real fun food says
Kath – I really love the new header. Your beautiful pictures define your blog so I think your header looks great! One of the things I miss most about 1) living in the US 2) not living in one of the biggest cities in the world is having a grill!! I can’t wait to be able to grill and eat outside once again 🙁
Fallon says
A summer red? It is usually too hot for me to drink red wine during the summer, unless I’m indoors. Sounds good. Must be nice to get these bottles of wine.. delivered!
Tofurkey dogs?? Are these the things by the tofu and tempeh? I’ve seen them but always stayed away from them. If you are approving I’ll check them out the next time I’m at the store!
Lauren @ What Lauren Likes says
Summer is happening soo fast! love the summery bbq though. Everything looks great 🙂
Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin says
I’ve never tried those Tofurkey sausages, but I love the Yves brand ones!
Anna @ Newlywed, Newly Veg says
I really like those Tofurkey sausages! They’re great in stews and chunky pasta sauces too.
Meredith says
That dinner looks sooo yummy! Definitely a perfect summer meal!
Gina @ Running to the Kitchen says
I’ve never had any Tofurkey products and it’s mostly because the name completely turns me off. Marketing working the opposite way it should!
Maggie says
“Loganic” That’s genius!
Gena says
Love the new header. And isn’t Tofurkey fab? Gets a bad reputation, but the ingredient list is legit. I wouldn’t want it too often, but it’s a great vegan cookout option.
katie @KatieDid says
Loganic…. starting a new trend! I like it. I’m always skeptical of faux meat… I’d always choose real meat over something with ten kinds of soy and other stabilizers, so its nice to know they do make real food ones out there somewhere!
KathEats says
I would chose real meat over this too..
faith says
But you were a good sport.
KathEats says
Yes!! I would gladly eat them again, but I probably wouldn’t buy ’em
occula says
Those look like the Italian sausage flavor, which is our favorite because they are so flavorful. My favorite way is to pan-sear potato chunks, onions, peppers, and two-bite slices of the sausage together. yum!
Lisa @ Life in Green says
Yup love the ‘loganic’ – totally stealing that. 🙂
And bread & corn on the grill – some of my favs!
Emma (Namaste Everyday) says
that wine sounds awesome! I prefer red wines to white wines, but in the summer I crave white. I’ve been searching for the perfect summer red!
Megan says
Barboursville was one of our stops last weekend…great property and awesome wine tasting staff! I have 2 bottles of Merlot to enjoy back in WI
Shannon @ The Hungry Rower says
I’ve waffled back and forth between a completely vegetarian diet and a flexitarian diet (which includes some poultry and sea food) for years. As of late, I’ve realized that it’s not that I don’t enjoy eating meat, but rather that I object to how the majority of commercially available meats are produced. That said, I really dig the “loganic” concept; thanks for the new vocabulary word (and for being your usual awesome self)!
Shana says
I thought I was doing such a good thing when I started eating veggie burgers…until I realized the ones I was eating are full of crap. I’ll have to look for the tofurkey!
