I knew that I wanted to spend a few extra days in New York after my time with Quaker was over. I have so many friends there to catch up with, including Jessica, who I hadn’t seen in nine years!!
We went to Sanctuary T for a fabulous lunch. This place was so cute with such a great menu!
I had a much craved-for kale salad and one of the two fish tacos that we shared.
I went here, there, and everywhere in the 48 hours of leisure time I spent in the city:
Drinks and oysters aboard the Grand Banks ship. (I read about this in Coastal Living and had to go!)
(See the Statue of Liberty in the distance?)
I ate dinner at Via Carota, as recommended by my cousin.
These fried olives were incredible!!!
They were filming the show “Younger” right in front of the restaurant, and guess who was there?!
Hillary Duff! She walked right by my table a few times.
I loved the music at the Smalls Jazz Club!
And this guy was jammin’ in the sister club across the street:
This chorizo and Manchego omelet from The Vine was so good! (They also have the coolest bathroom ever!)
I walked across the Brooklyn Bridge (for the first time) and explored Dumbo.
Then, seafood rolls from Luke’s Lobster along the water!
I enjoyed kale salad and crab cake before the theater:
And then went to Wicked!!! I saw the show years ago in Charlotte, and I loved seeing it again.
Also had a post-theater visit to The Spotted Pig! I loved the fresh pasta I had, but it was too dark to photograph.
And finally, brunch at Buvette. It’s simply the cutest restaurant that ever was. Everything was petite, from the tiny menu to the forks.
Egg, bacon, and gruyere waffle sandwich!
I had such a great time, but I am thrilled to be home again. I’m going to be eating a lot of salads this week!

I love NYC! I lived there for a summer and interned right in the city during my Junior year of college. Seeing your post, takes me back to so many great memories. Those fried olives and the chorizo omelet look amazing! Thank you so much for sharing!

You packed a lot in, looks like a great time!

Such a fun trip! I’m jealous you saw Wicked, I’ve always wanted to see that! All of that food looks amazing, too. What’s this Dumbo you explored? I’ve never been to NYC, so I’ve never heard of it!

The neighborhood at the foot of the Brooklyn Bridge!

Looks like you had the perfect weather for exploring NYC! All your food looks incredible! What is Dumbo?!
KathEats says
A neighborhood in Brooklyn!

Kath, I think one of the things that has made your blog so successful (aside from the beautiful photographs) is how you’ve let readers in, made us feel as though we’re talking over tea or joining you for a casual dinner in your own home. You seem no longer to desire to let us in, but instead to keep us out. By evading basic details that you so freely formerly gave, like the names of your dining companions, your musings on the day, your plans for the future. Because it’s such a drastic shift, without a candid explanation, it feels like an affront to your readers. I believe it will further drive people away. Perhaps you no longer want to let us in, perhaps your tone has shifted because you want to draw stark lines of what we get and what we don’t. You are entitled to this, of course. But since this is your brand, and since I am a consumer of that brand, I offer this advice: explain why, and people will be understanding.
KathEats says
I appreciate your comment. I can’t always explain why, so please understand that there is often a reason.
Eleanor G says
And I appreciate your reply! Know that I’ll keep reading and remain hopeful that your unique candor, sincerity and spontaneity will in time work their way back in.
Amelia says
I agree with Eleanor (and very well written and said to you, Eleanor). I will also keep reading but hope one day your previous writing style will return. Best of luck to you Kath!

I am glad you get to enjoy your independence ! This looks like a great trip!

Looks like a great weekend trip! Where is that blue jacket from, the one with the silver buttons and fringe? It looks perfect for a boat ride!

It’s LOFT from many years ago

Los Angeles is my home, but I LOVE LOVE LOVE NYC! I do wish that I could have visited the Statue of Liberty during my visit! The view must have been so beautiful!

I live in the West Village in NYC, and I haven’t even been to a lot of these places! I do love The Spotted Pig and Smalls. Adding the Grand Banks ship and Santuary T to my summer must-do list!
KathEats says
Jealous you live right in the thick of it!
Nan says
Wicked?! Wow! I’m surprised you were allowed to snap a photo of the stage – usually that’s a no-no in the theater! Looks like an amazing trip – I’m jealous!
Allison says
That waffle Sammie looks to die for!
Did you meet up with friends for every meal or did you do most of your travel solo? I kind of like solo travel. I don’t spend a lot of time alone in my own head, sometimes it’s nice!
KathEats says
Mostly with friends. I have lots of friends from high school and college in NYC.
Liz @ I heart vegetables says
That sounds like such a fun trip, with lots of delicious food!! Glad you had a good time!
Lynn @ The Actor’s Diet says
Oh, how I miss NYC is the summer! It’s a hot mess sometimes but your post is making me romanticize it…
Jeanie says
Kath, I’ve been getting so many pop-up ads on your blog, it’s been difficult to read. I actually had to pause a couple times because I couldn’t determine if what I was seeing was part of your story or another ad. Am I the only one bothered by this?
KathEats says
no you’re not, and I’m working on it!
Emily says
I’ve found using Ad Blocker really works well for this site (Sorry, Kath, I love the blog, but I couldn’t read it at all with the ads–especially the pop ups).
Diane says
Looks like you had a great weekend in my hometown!
If you come back – you should come check out Queens – it’s one of the most diverse parts of the city!
KathEats says
Yeah I’d love to explore some of the other parts of the city! Just need more time 🙂

What a fun trip to NYC! I’m totally geeking out that you saw Hilary Duff! I loved her when I was in middle school : )
Amanda says
I love reading this post…felt like I was along for the trip! And funny that you saw Hillary Duff filming “Younger” (like it was meant to be with the same name!)
And that chickpea and egg dish looked delish!
Kelsey says
Your new layout looks great! I miss the next post/previous post buttons though! Am I missing them somewhere?
KathEats says
Oh yeah, those were custom to my old theme. I will see if I can figure out how to add some back – I liked them too!
Kim says
I am having the worst time loading your pages. My phone, my home computer and my work computer( which is very reliable) freeze up and get stuck. Frustrating.
KathEats says
Can you please give me some more info on your browser and computer so I can troubleshoot?
