Mazen worked harder at the gym than I did this morning – he went to ABC Condtioning and I took another rest day. I recently read this guest post on Anne’s blog. It’s one of the best posts on workout recovery I’ve ever read. I love that Taylor delved into emotions and sleep instead of just feeling sore as signs you need to take a few days off. I definitely think I did too much last week. Something is strained in my back, my legs still feel quite heavy after my run and I just haven’t been feeling energized by my workouts lately. A second rest day seemed appropriate, so I did just a little walking, followed by lots of foam rolling and 10 minutes in the sauna. I was sweating from head to toe – something I’ve missed all winter! Also amazing is the fact that it’s 50 degrees here today. Since when did 50 feel so warm!!
It’s all Peppa Pig all the time over here, so I celebrated *oink* with *oink* stuffed peppas! These are leftover from our dinner Saturday night. Big plump white beans and nutty barley were mixed with a few Mexican spices and some sharp cheddar cheese. Had ’em with an orange and a Dr. Kracker from Mazen’s lunch box ; )
After lunch I made dinner – sausage and lentil soup going into the crock pot! Love knocking out dinner prep before 5pm.
For dessert I am sipping a new tea sent to me to try. Teami makes lovely blends of teas for specific needs – energy, relaxing, detoxing. Just like wine, I find tea blends to be even more enjoyable than single flavors, so these are so my cup of tea! The Energy flavor is made up of Oolong, Yerba Mate, Ginseng, Lemon grass, Peppermint Leaf, goji berry, Rhodiola rosea. Teami offered to share a discount code with you guys too: EATS10 will get you 10% off any purchase!
Enjoy your Monday afternoon!

Haha my kids like Peppa Pig, too. My 6-year-old will talk with a British accent after watching that show. 🙂 The peppas look great!

LOOOOOVE stuffed peppers! I like doing a mix of turkey, rice, and lentils! The rice and lentils get nice and crispy in the oven while they bake!

Yum! That tea sounds fantastic! I always forget how much I love a nice warm mug of tea until I finally decide to have it. I love coffee but sometimes, tea is just a better fit!

Seconded. I also enjoy that you’re not going by a strict posting schedule — makes it possible for fun surprises! 🙂

Nice job on the rest days and I am so glad you liked the piece! It’s easy for us to just keep going going going but we have to stop and just chill! Your workouts have been intense lately! All that soccer, def deserves a rest!
Lentil soup is up on our list soon too!
Thanks for the shout out on the article!

I REALLY needed to read the guest post you linked to. I am struggling with a slight hip flexor strain that I do NOT want to worsen, yet at the same time have that guilt that comes along with backing off, let alone taking an actual rest day. Thanks for sharing!

Did you know carrots retain more of their nutrients if you cook them whole instead of slicing them? You can slice them after, but the bigger the pieces, the healthier they are when you eat them! I don’t know what you did with the carrots above, but the picture reminded me to share 🙂
