Thar she blows!
Nobody slept well here. Rain at the beach combined with the surf and wind is so much louder than rain at home! I was awake from about 4-5:30 with irregular plonks against our balcony windowsill that kept jarring me awake. Matt is still asleep!
I stumbled down before 9 and made cereal and coffee. Puffins with blueberries and banana plus peanut butter. I love the regular puffins so much more than peanut butter!! They are smaller, crunchier and stay firm longer in milk.
We have had some sunshine pokes, but I don’t think Beryl is expected to completely move out until later this afternoon. Hoping to squeeze in a walk at some point today!
Allie@LiveLaughEat says
I haven’t tried the PB Puffins since I’m allergic. Everyone says it’s the best, so I feel left out (thanks for making me feel better). I think Multigrain is the most delicious. I hope the skies clear up for you.
Lexi @ You, Me, & A World to See says
I’ve tried all the flavors and think the cinnamon is best! Don’t know if you’ve tried those, but if it’s any consolation, they’re awesome 🙂
Mai says
i don’t think you’re missing out! original is my favorite!
Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat says
Yikes! Well at least the weather has been pretty decent for the majority of your trip. I think storms at the beach are so much more fun to watch than ones at home. Hopefully you get a little more sun before you guys fly back to Cville!
Catalina @ Cake with Love says
I hope you get some sunshine for your walk, have a nice day!! 🙂
Ashley @ My Food 'N' Fitness Diaries says
i think i have to disagree… the peanut butter puffins are my favorite! i actually like when they get a little softer in the milk. that’s just me though. 😉 hope you’re able to get some rest this afternoon!
Claire @ Live and Love to Eat says
Love the seashell bowl – you’re making me crave a relaxing beach vacation! 🙂
Andrea says
Actually, I think the stormy sea looks really beautiful! You kind of got the best of both worlds, or weathers, while you were there 🙂 And I LOVE that starfish bowl!
Khushboo says
I love peanut butter but wasn’t a fan of PB Puffins- they’re far too sweet to eat a bowl full!
lynn @ the actor's diet says
well, the weather should make adjusting back to “real life” a little easier?
Susan H. @ The Food Allergy Chronicles says
I grew up on the water and love the sound of the waves crashing in on the shore…it actually lulls me to sleep! Of course watching a storm come across the water is so amazing…especially when it skirts us! One time we were eating dinner and we could see the storm coming right at us across the water…suddenly the wind picked up and a tree branch came flying at us…even though we were inside we all ducked and dashed! So cool! Hope you are able to get out to enjoy some of the day!
KathEats says
We saw a water spout once! Terrified me!
Melissa @ HerGreenLife says
You’re on Bald Head, right? I’d be pretty nervous on an island only accessible by ferry with a tropical storm, but I guess you’ve probably spent enough time there that you’re somewhat used to it.
Looks like overall you’ve had a great trip and enjoyed this pre-baby time!
KathEats says
No we’re at Carolina Beach. Plus it’s not a real scary wind storm – just a depression
Lindsey says
What a fun beachy bowl! Is that yours or did it come in the house?
Hope you get enough sun for a walk today!
KathEats says
Came with the house!
Cait's Plate says
I had a bad night’s sleep as well – and there wasn’t even any rain! I’ve been hearing about Beryl on the news lately…hopefully the sun beats it out and you’re able to enjoy the last of your time there!
Johanna B says
Whenever I hear rain and waves crashing while I’m asleep I dream that my roof is leaking. Weird?
The Mrs @ Success Along the Weigh says
Boy, you’ve got a front row seat for that storm, don’t ya? Yet you still manage to have gorgeous dinnerware to show off your eats even on vacay!
Hope @ With A Side Of Hope says
I hope the weather clears up! It was scary last night. There was a ton of rain and thunder.
Peanut butter puffins are my favorite! Never tried it with a scoop of peanut butter in the middle. Must try it! 🙂
Caroline @ After Dinner Dance says
I love it when it’s stormy at the beach! It might be a bit dangerous but it’s always fun to see the waves!
Julie H. of Spinach and Sprinkles says
I’m sure there is a fine line between comforting and too much with waves crashing….. Hope you get in a walk today- just got back from my walk/jog- BEAUTIFUL morning weather here!
Lauren @ Oatmeal after Spinning says
The storms over the last few days have been CRAZY here! Like, all of the sudden the sky gets all dark and the wind is crazy- it POURS and then it’s gone. And then it’s back again in an hour! Last night my power went out for about 90 minutes… right at 6:15 when I put dinner in the oven. I was NOT a happy camper.
Laura is Undeterrable says
I love beach storms, though I’ve never been through a hurricane. Stay safe over there!
Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) says
I love a good evening rain at the beach, but storms are normally no fun there. Hopefully you will get a walk in and some relaxation too!
Katie @ Talk Less, Say More says
I didn’t sleep well either but we didn’t have bad weather – I’m not sure what it was. But around 5:30 I said “forget this!” and just got up and headed for the gym. ha!
Michelle (Better with Berries) says
I love listening to the waves crash against the shore on a stormy beach day!
Roxanne says
Now I am depressed… Where I live there are no puffins. Woe is me!
Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table says
Those clouds are gorgeous1 Scary, but gorgeous. 🙂
theresa @ a spoonful of sunshine says
I love Puffins too! They stay crunchy for so long 🙂 The only kind I have tried are the Original and since I haven’t heard the best things about the other kinds, I shall stick to what I love 🙂
Michelle @ Esculent Dreams says
Just tried the PB Puffins for the first time ever last night!! Also bought the MG so I’m looking forward to trying that next. 🙂 My mom and I are also at the beach this week….didn’t get to sleep well either last night! The rain sounded like it was ready to rip our poor little house to shreds….
Lace @ Real Food Quest says
Drive safe! We just did a trip this weekend to the Carolinas and back down to Florida and Beryl made it interesting almost every step along the way.
Amanda @flecksofgreen says
Storms always seems so much worse at the beach–it’s like you have a front row view to the action or something…very scary. It looks like you have the company of great people and the comfort of great foods to get you through it!
Averie @ Averie Cooks says
I like both PB and regular puffins…for handheld eating out of the box (no milk), I’d vote PB but with milk, you’re right, I think regular win.
Good luck with the weather!
Fran@ Broken Cookies Don't Count says
Sounds like a nasty storm! I haven’t been finding Puffins. I want to try them. Have to keep searching!
Ashley @ Hudson on the Potomac says
Oh no! I hope Beryl is moving fast and will get out of your way, so you can have some sun!
Faith says
Had the cinnamon puffins this morning, I prefer the peanut butter.
Ellie@Fit for the Soul says
puffins is so awesome b/c it’s somewhat sweet, but not overly so. And those skies look crazy cool! And kinda ominous like from a movie!
Jes @ Becoming Less of Jes says
Those are some spooky-beautiful clouds!
Angel7 says
The storm probably would have kept me awake, too. However, if I had my one earplug in–during storms–I probably would have slept right through it.

Maura @ My Healthy 'Ohana says
Haven’t had Puffins in so long, you’re making me crave them 🙂
Kerry @ Totes My Oats says
I love regular Puffins so much more than PB, too!
Angela @ Happy Fit Mama says
I love beach storms! Whenever we get one, we always head to the ocean to see the waves. Very loud and annoying when trying to sleep but so beautiful!
Annette @FitnessPerks says
I swear it always storms for us on the last day of vacay too! Weird?! 😉
Katie @ Peace Love & Oats says
I love storms at the beach, it looks so majestic!
Jen says
You are so calm about a big storm coming! I’d be OUT of there at the mention of one!! 🙂
Erin Motz says
What a treat! I love storms at the beach – plus, you guys were lucky to have amazing blue skies the entire time. A little gray weather definitely can’t ruin it 🙂
Enjoy!!
Michael Tavallaei DDS says
eek nasty storm.
