Have I mentioned how much I love walking!?
The first few months we lived here were warm and it was all bike, bike, bike. But not that the cold makes pedaling at 26 mph unbearable, walking has become necessary and I’ve realized how much I prefer it to biking. I can check my email, talk on the phone, carry my camera safely on my back and enjoy the sights. I hope when it warms up I can continue the trend!
The walk to Karen’s – about 2 miles – was so pretty with our melting snow.
I hung out with her for a while [and taught her things on her computer!] before we headed out to restaurant week at Brasserie Montiel.
We enjoyed some drinks. A Cab for me
And this beautiful stemless martini for Karen
Along with our own personal loaf of gooey bread!
First Course
I LOVED the gorgonzola!!
Main Course
The trout was incredible!!!
It came with broc
The fluffiest, chewiest wild rice. Wish I had thought to ask them the brand!
Dessert
My favorite part. Sorbet never appears to me in restaurants (I’d rather go for the ganache cake or buttercream!) but tonight they were calling my name and they were absolutely refreshing!
Karen’s tiramisu wasn’t half bad either!
We enjoyed some decaf coffees for dessert. A nice ending touch!
Miles to go before I sleep…

I love walking too- it’s so much more mindful and peaceful. When I run, I don’t take the time to enjoy my surroundings and what’s around me. Glad you enjoyed your dinner with your mama in law! 🙂

I really enjoy walking too – I love being outside in the crisp air! It’s so refreshing!
Ellie@fitforthesoul says
You just find the coolest restaurants Kath! The trout looks amazing. Was it really creamy since it’s beurre blanc? or just right? I’d like to make something of that sort.
KathEats says
It was the perfect beurre because it was thick! I’m sure there was lots of butter, but I don’t like them when they’re like liquid butter dripping off.
notyet100 says
so true miles to go before i sleep…
Janna says
Yeah! You finally got your trout! It looks delicious too!$
T-minus 4 days (and counting) till I leave for Asheville! I am getting excited!
KathEats says
Ha! Yes!! Too bad it wasn’t a MT trout 🙁

Sounds like fun! (But if you’re biking at 26 mph, you need to give up blogging and become a pro cyclist- you’d kick some butt.)

I love that martini glass; what is the proper way to drink out of it?
KathEats says
You lifted the cone out of the stemless wine glass to sip
Holly @ Couch Potato Athlete says
That wild rice looks unbelievable!!! Oh and the tirimisu obviously!
I can’t wait until the snow/ice melts a bit more and I can get out and walk — some sidewalks aren’t quite clear and I’m way too much of a wimp to brave the ice!
Paige @Running Around Normal says
Beautiful trail pictures – wow!
How nice of you to take Karen out to dinner. It looks fabulous!
megan @ blackberries for jam says
This is my idea of a perfect evening!

First, that’s one of my favorite poems. I have to go and read it. Second, as a dietitian is it wrong that I was most excited about that martini? Yikes and still “miles to go before I sleep.”

Is it sad that I saw the title of this post and began reciting the Robert Frost poem? How do we remember these things from 6th grade?!

Gwen says
Wow – simply gorgeous! Hubs and I need to get to Charlotesville in the winter! I’ve only been once! And that loaf of bread. WOWSA! I’m going to dinner for Restaurant Week in Alexandria tonight – if they brought a loaf like that to the table I’d be done for!
Clare @ Fitting It All In says
I went to St. Louis Restaurant Week last night with my brother! I got a great peice of fish as well as some home-made raspberry sorbet! Two peas in a pod:)
