I was supposed to run outside this morning. Before breakfast.
Meaning, I had mentally prepared all day yesterday since we have a busy day today. But when the alarm went off, my stomach said FEED ME and I knew no small pre-run snack would satisfy the hunger – it was deep and demanding.
Matt also said in his most childish voice: “Let’s run later.” OK, ok. Breakfast it is!
And man oh man was it a good one!!

- 1/4 cup cottage cheese stirred in at end
- Toppings

- Put oats through salt into a pot set to medium heat.
- Stir until nearly all liquid is absorbed.
- Add cottage cheese and diced strawberries.
- Pour into bowl.

Served with a new tea from Whole Foods – Roobios. It was not my favorite. It seems the only teas that I just love are minty!
We are closing on our business loan at 11am today! And at noon, an oven the size of our living room is arriving at the bakery!!
Khushboo says
This might be your most genius creation yet! Cheesecake is my biggest weakness!
Cait @ Beyond Bananas says
How funny! I had a similar rendition of Strawberry Cheesecake Oats this morning too! They are delicious.. aren’t they? You are way more creative and added more toppings though! I am a plain Jane.
missy says
Yummy deliciousness!
Congrats on closing the loan today.
Can’t wait to see more progress pics 🙂
J3nn (Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) says
Love the bowl that your oats are in!
Holly @ The Runny Egg says
I’m a minty tea fan as well — every once in a while I like a cup of black or white tea, but that is about it!
Strawberry cheesecake oats — sounds delicious! And that pedestal bowl is so pretty.
Miranda @ Working Mom Works Out says
Good luck on the closing. Your oatmeal looks yummers too.
Stacey (The Home-Cooked Vegan) says
Yay! I love bakery updates! 🙂
I hope you are able to take a pic of the oven! <–yes, I'm a weirdo that likes looking at pics of giant ovens hehe
Hope you enjoy your run!
Jenny @ Fitness Health and Food says
I am the same way when it comes to breakfast my stomach needs food if I’m going to exercise! 😛
It’s a good thing I’m on a bloggers schedule so I can workout mid morning 🙂
Have a great day! 🙂
Sarah (Running To Slow Things Down) says
Love the adorable white breakfast bowl! 😀
Lissy says
My ABSOLUTE favorite tea is that brand, the Northwest Minty Green. It is so minty and strong. I can actually steep it and then make it into a glass of iced tea. It’s what has kept me going during my time of breastfeeding and not really doing caffeinated drinks.
Samantha Angela @ Bikini Birthday says
Stomach trumps run. Always.
Oh what I would give for an enormous oven!
Amanda- The Nutritionist Reviews says
Strawberry cheesecake oats sound amazing! What a fun start to the morning.
Nicole says
I don’t love most teas either with the exception of minty teas (like you) and jasmine tea. I’ve recently been in love with a jasmin green tea from Trader Joes.
Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat says
Breakfast looks and sounds like it was amazing!! I’m not a huge fan of some rooibos teas either, but have you tried the Vanilla Rooibos from Starbucks? It is amazing!!! Sightly sweet, and the vanilla notes are definitely there. It’s been my favourite go-to tea for the past 6 months! Have a fabulous day Kath 🙂
KathEats says
YES I love that one very much!!
Karen says
Oh wow, that looks amazing!I am going to just have to give that a go!
Freya (Brit Chick Runs) says
The size of the living room?? Heck that’s huge! How many loaves will you be making a day? Do you do each one by hand? I can imagine you’d be able to give up BodyPump if you spend the whole day making bread – it’s so tough!!
KathEats says
Lots and lots of loaves each day. I’m not sure of the exact number. Matt will be doing most of the labor!
Maria @ The Fitted Apron says
Very pretty looking breakfast. Congrats on your loan closing.
Claire @ Live and Love to Eat says
Everyone is eating strawberries today! Nicely coordinated mug and tablecloth =)
Kayla @ Fitter Than Choc says
Isn’t it great when you can have breakfast and dessert at the same time? Your breakfast looks simply gorgeous. I like mint tea, but I have been drinking a lot more roobios tea lately. It’s said to contain more antioxidants as compared to other teas. It’s a bonus that it’s caffeine free too:)
ilovefetacheese says
ooooh Rooibos are my favorite!! But yea, they are completely different from herbal teas. Have you tried it cold? I actually think they taste better cold since they tend to have a sour/fruity taste. I especially love the Rooibos mixes from Teavana.
OH I meant to tell you – I was perusing on the Lululemon career site, and they have a position open for a manager of the Lululemon Charlottesville store (showroom)! I know ya’ll are hard at work at Great Harvest, but for some reason, I thought of you 🙂 Or maybe you know someone there that would be interested? What’s nice about working in a showroom is they’re usually only open for a couple hours, 3-4 days a week. Plus the discount! I wish there was one closer to me!!
KathEats says
I didn’t even know we had one!?
Yeahh…I’m way too busy to add a side job, but I could definitely go as a shopper!!
ilovefetacheese says
I don’t think it’s opened yet, but they’re planning to open one, which is awesome!
Krissy @ Shiawase Life says
LOL! I posted about this!!
http://shiawaselife.wordpress.com/2011/04/10/yoga-rumors-and-more/
We don’t have a Lulu showroom in Cville so I posed the question on twitter – right now, Lulu can be purchased at Bikram Yoga Cville though.
Rachel @ The Avid Appetite says
Absolutely adoring your placemat/tablecloth this morning! So cute and springy! Good luck with the giant oven 🙂
chloe@ 321delish says
that single strawberry on top makes your oatmeal today 🙂
faith @ lovelyascharged says
Oh yum! All of the sudden now I’m craving my berry cheesecake oats – thaaaanks 😉 and I’d totally be tempted to pose in the oven like I was in hansel and gretel, hehe
Courtney @ The Granola Chronicles says
I really need to try adding cottage cheese to my oats. I bet it adds such wonderful texture!
Emily says
That looks yummy! I wondered how you deal with being too hungry when you wake up to exercise. I feel like this happens to me a lot, and then my gym plans are thwarted because I don’t have other free time during the day. Does a small snack before bed help?
KathEats says
I think a bedtime snack would help a lot. Also, if I’d had a banana and peanut butter or toast I’m sure it would have been OK. If I had HAD to go then, I could have. I’m just a wimp these days with my flexibility to go later if need be.
Natalia - a side of simple says
Hope all goes well with the closing today!! How exciting.
I was just debating breakfast or run…hmmmm… 😉
Cait's Plate says
I know – I always prefer to run on an empty stomach but my stomach always seems to win out in the end as well. It’s the best when it holds over though and you’re able to get your workout in before hand!
Good luck with the closing!!! So exciting!!
Hope says
Cheesecake oats look incredible!!! Your oats look so fluffy. I made oats over the weekend and they definitely did not look like that 🙁 Good luck with the closing!!!!
KathEats says
use more water and take them off the stove before they dry out!
Justeen @ Blissful Baking says
Oh my, I just had a delicious bowl of oats for breakfast, but it does not even compare to yours 🙂 I want to try cottage cheese in my oats, but I always forget to buy it when I’m at the grocery store!
Heather says
I woke up with similar stomach pains this morning. I’m not usually that hungry but for some reason I was starving this morning.
Good luck with your business loans closing and oven delivery!
Alex says
Banana and strawberry is my ll time favorite fruit combination 🙂
And I have the exact same bowl! With the lion heads on the sides. I find i hard to clean though… cereal residue always gets stuck in the little concaves of the heads inside the bowl…
Lucy @ The Sweet Touch says
Hurray for giant ovens! You will never be loafless again:) Good luck on your busy day!
Ashley says
Exciting day!! Good luck!! That bowl of oats looks magical. 🙂
Kristina says
Congrats on closing on the loan!
Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table says
Congrats on the loan and the oven! SO exciting. 🙂
I finally bough cottage cheese – I’m giving it a second chance since my 7 year old taste buds can’t be trusted. Haha.
Clearly Composed says
Have you tried Good Earth Original blend? It comes in decaf and has wonderful, complex flavors and a nice cinnamon kick too. 🙂 No sweetening needed with this one at all.
KathEats says
I have tried it but I thought it was TOO sweet! And a bit too spicy. I’m finding I don’t really like cinnamon in tea
Courtney@Courtney Grace: Love, Thoughts and Prayers says
Looks like a BIG day for you all! Congrats! I was wondering if you could help me with some appliance/cookware suggestions. I am getting ready to register for my wedding, love to cook and would love to start my kitchen “off on the right foot” I think a vitamix is out of the price range, but any ideas what the “Next Best” thing is…or other kitchen “Must Haves”
KathEats says
Yeah, I didn’t care for it. It was TOO sweet!
Courtney@Courtney Grace: Love, Thoughts and Prayers says
Haha, I got an email reply to this comment, I know It was for the one above but for a good 30 seconds I was SO confused. Haha, guess because I was so “slow” on the uptake I should have another half cup of coffee!
KathEats says
Haha – OOPS!! It was for the one above! I’ve done that twice lately!
If a Vita-mix is a bit too much, go for a Cusinart. Then you can make pesto, hummus, scottish oats and nut butters!
Sarah says
Yum! What a great new way to eat oatmeal! Thx
Beth @ DiningAndDishing says
hehe – my stomach almost always wins :). but with a breakfast like that, who can blame you! i love the creamy creamy texture you get on your oats kath.
Jess (Sweet Potato) says
Wow! Thats one big oven!
Karen says
I too favor mint based tea, though I’m really loving ginger tea these days. I buy loose (tea cut) ginger from a local spice shop. It’s simultaneously calming and energizing, and always seems to cure any ailment. If you can find it, I urge you to give it a try, though I should warn you that the boxed tea bag versions in the grocery store tend to be combined w/other flavors/herbs, which dilute the zingy-ness of straight ginger.
Good luck w/ bizness stuff today, Kath!
Heather @ Health, Happiness, and Hope says
Wow, definitely worth holding off on the run for that! Looks DELICIOUS! Congrats on the closing – so exciting! 🙂
Clare @ Fitting It All IN says
I only like minty teas too – I always try fun flavors and the make me queezy. My favorite is the Tazo Refresh.
Char says
Ahh, these oats look SO good!!! I want some now…I totally skipped on them this morning cause we had places to go!
lynn @ the actor's diet says
i’ve got pretty much every ingredient for this in my house except the important one – oats!
kaila @ healthy helper! says
I am SO happy its almost strawberry season once again! I love your oat bowl by the way! Where’s it from?!
KathEats says
Grandmother’s closet!
Casey says
Congrats on closing on the loan! Exciting!
Sarah @ goingongoals says
I feel the same way about tea. For some reason it has to be minty!!
Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) says
Gosh I miss cottage cheese in my oats! That looks good! Have a great day Kath!
natalie (the sweets life) says
ooh congrats! can’t wait to see pics of how the bakery is coming along…i’m loving reading about all of this..hopefully someday we can come see it in person! 🙂
Maria says
I’m definitely going to have to try this one out! Strawberry Cheesecake is probably one of my favorite desserts!
Caroline @ French Ponytail says
I was supposed to run hills this morning, but I opted for breakfast (and blogging) over running instead! Maybe this evening? For some reason, hills at night seems a bit intense. Your breakfast looks delicious, and I’m not even an oatmeal fan!
Holly says
Just wanted to let you know I tried my first KERF oatmeal yesterday for lunch and blogged about it this morning (www.thefrozenpineapple.com). You’ve inspired me! I’m eating a wasa cracker with spreadable laughing cow cheese, bell pepper slices with Trader Joe’s hummus, a whole wheat chocolate chip cookie and lemon ginger tea right now for lunch!
Carrie @ Nutrition By Carrie says
That looks amazingly delicious. I know what I’m making for breakfast tomorrow! I have all the ingredients on hand…even the TJ’s sunflower butter! I never thought about putting strawberries in oatmeal. Blueberries, yes, but not strawberries.
Namaste Gurl says
Mmmmm, although I had oats this morning, yours look much better! Happy day and hope you get everything done 🙂
I went on a run this morning, but I ate a couple dates before to tame my monster appetite 🙂
Chad says
I never liked a rooibios tea but i’m wanting to like… like them.
I love all of you rbright colors.
Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin says
Haha breakfast always wins out over early morning exercise for me. Especially when it’s a breakfast as delicious as that oatmeal. 😉
chelsey @ clean eating chelsey says
I can’t deny stomach pangs either! However, most mornings I have to workout before breakfast. To combat the hunger, I always eat a bedtime snack to hold me over!
Meg says
My stomach ALWAYS screams at me for food when I awake 🙂
It’s always good to wake up to a sweeeet bowl of Kath-inspired oats 🙂
Enjoy your day!
Shannon @ My Place In The Race says
Oh my those oats look amazing!! 😛
Ali says
Kath,
I’m so excited for you and your new bakery. I live in Pittsburgh, but I have friends that live near Charlottesville. I plan on visiting them near the end of June. I will definitely be sure to stop by your new place. Best of luck to you and Matt!
KathEats says
Please do!!
M says
Hi Kath!
I don’t like most green teas. The ones I have found I love (I just have to make sure to
steep for 2 min only or gets very bitter!)
are
Numi Gunpowder Green tea
Twinings Loose leaf Gunpoder green tea
I am all about the gunpowder green tea- a more smoky taste than grassy and after a few tries-
fell in love with these!!!
Have you tried any gunpowder green’s Kath?
KathEats says
I haven’t. I’m not a big fan of green tea at all. It’s either too weak or too bitter!
M says
I really suggest you try one of these Kath!
For me it has been the perfect replacement at breakfast
(instead of coffee/black tea)
Cheers!!
Ally (Girl V Food) says
I used to be able to run before the sun came out, come rain or come shine. But now I like to sleeeeeep, so I save my workouts for later on in the day. That may prove to be a problem in the summertime when it gets really hot, though!
And OMG Strawberry Cheesecake Oats?! That is happening tomorrow, NOW.
Alaina says
Yum, cheesecake oats look amazing!! I love that placemat too. 🙂
kristina@beancakes says
hi kath! it’s been a while! your breakfast looks divine – great concoction!
olivewineandfood says
congrats on closing on the loan! and that breakfast looks amazing.
Linz says
Kath, I just love reading about all the updates to the bakery, watching you and Matt transform and idea into reality. You should have a page for the bakery, and how you went from a small idea and transforming it into something real. It provides me with so much inspriation to take the leap into what I want to do.
KathEats says
🙂
This post tells a bit of history! https://www.katheats.com/the-road-to-great-harvest
E says
I so agree with that last line!
Mary @ Bites and Bliss says
I usually prefer to exercise first thing before my mind has a chance to try to talk myself out of it- but something breakfast trumps it!
inspir-ed says
Kath, I thought the only teas I liked were minty ones too…until I discovered ginger. Now my body literally craves a lemon ginger tea every morning. Give it a try!
Kaitlyn @ 7 Plates says
I can’t help but notice how GORGEOUS the food looks. After looking at several blogs lately, I feel like I need some prettier place mats to jazz up my pictures 😉
Jenn says
Do you and Matt have any plans to ship your bread? Our nearest Great Harvest is 63 miles away. 🙁
KathEats says
Maybe not initially, but with time, yes
Emily @ Savory and Savage says
Ohh, you are getting the oven delivered today? Very exciting!
I loved the bright pink linens today – very cheery.
becca (bellebottoms) says

My grandmother’s collection. Although I’ve seen it in antique stores!
becca (bellebottoms) says

Jen Papaya says
I finally tried sunflower seed butter. Ohmygoodness. Obsessed.
Jenny (Fit Girl Foodie) says
Love the cheesecake oatmeal! I added cottage cheese one time and for some reason I thought it was kind of odd so I haven’t done it anymore lol Love the strawberry idea. They don’t get too soggy?
KathEats says
A little soggy, yes!
Melissa @ Journey to Marvelous says

I love your breakfasts. They inspire me to new levels of oatmeal!
Exciting day for you guys! and yes, Rooibos is definitely not my fave… I’d say that I go for minty teas too but I have a sweet spot for chamomile. 🙂
Abby says
What a yummy combo!
Molly says
Big ovens like that freak me out a bit. I mean you could cook yourself in there!
Heidi - apples under my bed says
Kath don’t give up on Roobios – it’s now my favourite! Maybe try a different brand. Go the Roobios!! 🙂 Yummy oats too – so creative.
