The fridge is re-stocked!
Just ignore the alcohol shelf – that is not under my management
Highlights of our trip to Whole Foods included yogurt, cheese, and greens! Makes for a perfect lunch.
I picked out a new bleuish cheese in hopes for some more marshmallow. I love this gorgonzola, but it’s not quite as good as the raw bleu I’ve been buying.
I made a big ole spinach salad topped with cheese, veggies, a drizzle of honey and…
My San Francisco farmer’s market purchase
Mmmm!!!
Plus a side of pumpkin yogurt!
The granola is a new one – Ancient Grains – sent to me for sampling from Nature’s Path. My own personal opinion is that Nature’s Path makes the best granola on the market. I love their almost sticky, crispy Hemp Plus and Agave granolas and get them in the bulk bins at Whole Foods.
This new one is made from spelt, kamut, amaranth, quinoa and oats – all favorites of mine in cooked form! The nutritionals are good too – about 250 calories per 3/4 cup with 5g protein, 6g fiber, 9g of sugar. But since I eat granola by the sprinkle (usually about 1/4 a cup) that comes out to 85 calories. Not bad. The only complaint I have is the soy oil in the ingredient list. Why not use coconut for an even more fun flavor layer? The bad news for me is this is only sold at Costco and we don’t have one here in Cville!
The Nature’s Path granolas always remind me of marshmallows (I think that must be one of my favorite flavors!) and I think it’s the molasses in the ingredients!
I can already tell this is going to be addictingly delicious. Just look at those clumps!!
Tea season
All of today’s dishes came from Anthropologie!
I am sporting slouchy boots and skinny jeans for the first time today. They are very comfy, but I’m finding that my big [strong] legs are pulling the the jeans down off my waist because they are tightest there.
I decided NOT to read HP7 before the movie. But I do need to read #6 plot summary at the least. Dragon Tattoo is SO GOOD! You guys were right – it took 100 pages and then BAM. I’m on 300 something at the moment!
Where is the mail truck!!?! I am waiting on 8 days worth to be delivered!!
Katie says
Oh you have to read the book before the movie!
That salad looks good, have been craving spinach.
Kath says
I have read the book – just not in 4 years!
Alina @ Duty Free Foodie says
I love pungent cheeses!
Christine says
You should know I love skinny jeans with grey suede slouchy boots!! ( https://www.katheats.com/a-full-day/ )
Kath says
I went back to look – cute!
Michele @ Healthy Cultivations says
After a trip, it always feels SO good to stock up again. I’m always craving a green monster immediately upon return. I go from the airport to the grocery to buy spinach!!
Tina @ Faith Fitness Fun says
I was out of town all weekend so my husband was home alone. I knew I needed to do some serious restocking today when there was absolutely NO fresh produce anywhere in our house. Unless you count the rotten tomatoes and super soft bananas in our counter bowl. Ew.
Anna @ Newlywed, Newly Veg says
Don’t you just LOOOOVE going grocery shopping after being out of town for a while?! I love filling our fridge back up with healthy eats!
Beth @ Beth's Journey to Thin says
That salad looks awesome! I love blue cheese drizzled with honey – specifically truffle honey if I have it! Mmmmm!
Kori says
Delicious looking lunch, especially the lavender salt! Are your boots by the brand Xappeal I believe? I am wearing what look to be exactly the same ones! I bought them at Rack Room Shoes a few days ago. 🙂 Have a wonderful day back home!
Kath says
Yup!!
Samantha @ Bikini Birthday says
I just finished the Girl Who Played With Fire. Thought it was total crap.
Kath says
Ok now I know there is something completely opposite about your opinions – EVERYONE I know said it’s awesome!!
Christine says
I thought it was quite the page turner and very exciting up until (dumb thing #1 happens-which I won’t spoil).
Then (dumb thing #2 happens) which kinda killed the whole book for me.
That’s my vague review (to eliminate spoiling it).
Kath says
I follow you 🙂
Holly @ couchpotatoathlete says
The salad looks delicious and I would love some dishes from Anthopologie!!! I didn’t know that is where your K mug is from. Good to know!
I love granola with big golfball size hunks — those are the best!
Sarah says
Ack, the same thing happens with me when I wear skinny jeans. The curse of the running thighs, I suppose?
megan @ blackberries for jam says
Returning to your own kitchen and filling up on veggies after a trip is the best feeling! And I’m SO EXCITED for tea season too! Enjoy your day!
sweetersalt says
Yum!
I’ve never worn them before, but perhaps “jeggings” would work better? They’re supposed to be super comfy too.
Laura
Christin@purplebirdblog says
I have been enjoying tea season too! 🙂
Nicole says
Lavender salt sounds interesting. I just picked up a vanilla sea salt this weekend that I’ve used so far on oatmeal and peanut butter banana toast. SO good!
Estela @ Weekly Bite says
Gorgeous pics!!! Love the anthro dishes 🙂
I have to keep my eye out for that granola!
Lisa Fine - lisasfoods says
Fun glimpse into your fridge. I always find it interesting to see what other healthy foodies keep on hand.
While I love trying new granolas, I’m trying to only make my own for the next year. We’ll see if I can keep up, but for now I love playing with different ingredients, and having no packaging, especially when I buy the ingredients in bulk.
Amanda (Eating Up) says
Mmm flavored salts are something I think I may become obsessed with!
Madeline - Greens and Jeans says
I LOVED the whole series! I actually carried the last book around with me because I couldn’t put it down
chelsey @ clean eating chelsey says
There is nothing like re-stocking the fridge after a vacation! Wahooo!
Liz says
I’m so glad you reviewed that granola! I have literally put it in my cart twice at Costco, only to put it back later because I was afraid to buy such a big box of something that I wasn’t sure I would like. Makes me feel better to know it is approved by a granola connoisseur, so I think I’ll go ahead and take the plunge now 🙂
Katie says
Don’t worry! The other Dragon Tattoo books don’t take nearly as much work to get into! I promise!
Nicole @ Body By Beer says
So interesting to see what a “fully stocked” fridge looks like in a house that doesn’t feed 6. I’m the master of creative produce stacking and needed an extra freezer in the basement for all the leftovers and excessive meat purchases my MIL makes.
stacey-healthylife says
I love chunky crispy granola. It always feels good to get the kitchen stocked back up after returning home. And then enjoying your own food once again.
grocery goddess jen says
I’m afraid of skinny jeans, not gonna lie.
That granola looks soooo good and crunchy and clumpy!
Sarah (OC2Seattle) says
No Costco near you? That’s tragic!
Jessica @ How Sweet It Is says
No Costco?! Ooooh I wouldn’t be able to take that.
Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) says
Perfect lunch and I am so happy it is tea season! I have been enjoying it and am about to have another cup now!
megan :-) says
HEYY! I’m a fairly new reader of your blog and have been reading all the old, and of course the new posts! I love, LOVEEE your blog KATH! Kerf rocks!! 🙂 Where have I been!? I wish someone had told me about it sooner!! Your awesome personality along with your nutrition expertise= so entertaining/helpful to read! I’m def a fan!! 🙂
Kath says
Thanks Megan, and welcome!
Felicia (a taste of health with balance) says
I just love honey with cheese! Anthropologie has the cutest dishes and mugs, I can’t help myself sometimes 🙂 And I can’t even buy granola or keep it in my house. I just devour most of it within a limited time! But when I can’t resist, I always go with natures path pumpkin flax or hemp. I don’t have a costco near me either, its horrible 🙁
Erica D says
It’s hard to find the right skinnies! I also have big [strong] legs, and I have a couple pairs from Charlotte Russe that really stretch, cover almost to my bellybutton, and look amazing. Comfy, too! I’m just afraid that they’ll wear out soon and I’ll never find them again.
Halley (Blunder Construction) says
Lavender is my favorite scent! I saw the lavender stand at the market in SF, but I just oogled at all the purple goods, and didn’t pick anything up. I can’t wait to see how you use the lavender salt!
Claire (Low Impact Fashionista) says
My skinny jeans do the same thing! Ugh athletic thighs do not accommodate fashionable dressing very well sometimes…
kate says
nothing like a freshly stocked fridge. and a beer shelf!
kate says
my friend and i were just talking about how HP movies should have a “last time on…” section before it starts, so that you’re all caught up!! 🙂
Kath says
Haha – YES!
Camille says
I have the same bowl from Anthro and I always use it for salad! It is the best ever salad bowl!
Mary @ Bites and Bliss says
Oh yeah, that granola looks dangerous!
Heather (Heather's Dish) says
one of my favorite things to do EVER is restock the fridge! i feel so successful and full of promise after that 😉
Lauren @ BIOCHEMISTA says
I LOOOOOVE a freshly stocked fridge. What’s your favorite new item to dip into?? Mine is usually fresh fruit and hummus (well not together 🙂 )
Kath says
Always a huge salad with gourmet toppings (like bleu cheese!)
Frederique says
I LOVED the Millenium book series, and agreed, it took 100pgs for me to get into the first one too! You get RIGHT into the other two though! The movies ommited too much detail in my info, but they are still nicely done.
Granola ROCKS! especially clumpy granola. Now with your delicious recipes i make my own and im mighty proud, but it never CLUMPS like that. Any tips or tricks to make it clump?
Costco is good, we have them here in Canada too! Too bad none close to you…
Kath says
I don’t know how to make it clump. I think the trick is to let it cool and THEN break it up, but mine still breaks up a lot.
Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat says
oooh i love the feeling of a stocked fridge!! i was at whole foods all weekend for a course and it was pretty much heaven! the nature’s path cereal sounds so good.. there’s some that is supposed to be arriving on my doorstep soon and i can’t wait!! 🙂
Allison K says
No picture of the skinnies with the boots? 🙂 I am sure you are rocking them!
Heba Salama says
–any suggestions for a gluten free and TASTY 😉 granola? your posts always make me feel like joining the chef (my husband) in the kitchen- and I am resolving to get better about cooking and healthy blogging in the new year w our cookbook– but I need some suggestions….I miss GRANOLA!!
edandheba.com
Kath says
Hey Heba! I haven’t tried any that were specifically gluten free because they usually have oats. But I’d check Bob’s Red Mill, who probably has a good one?
Felicity says
I’m waiting to see if you’ll recreate the farro you had in San Fran. I’ve been on the look out, but I couldn’t find it at my regular grocery store. You planted a seed in my mind. ; )
Kath says
That wasn’t me! But it sure looked good.
Felicity says
Oh, whoops! : x
Jil @ Big City, Lil' Kitchen says
Love the slouchy boots! and the alcohol shelf…. haha
Jamie @ Food in Real Life says
Couldn’t agree more about Dragon Tattoo. I’m so happy someone told me to stick with it because I was totally going to give up. It was so Booooooooooooring at the beginning. But awesome by the end.
I love restocking my fridge. Gives me joy to clean it out, and then refill it. Life is all about simple pleasures isn’t it? 🙂
Food & Other Things says
Having a restocked fridge is the best! The Nature’s Path granola looks amazing!
Susan says
I have that same cup – well different initial of course! For some reason I always save it for tea! I never use it for coffee! Loves it! 🙂
Clare says
I am rereading Harry 7. And I am 34. I love being a nerd.
OK-the dragon book-I am flabbergasted by how many people love these books. I do see it as creepy rape-porn. Seriously. People will get (excuse my boldness) off on this. Any book that devotes at least 30 pages to torture and forced sodomy is not my kind of book.
Why do you like it, People? Any insights?
Kath says
Um, thanks for spoiling the book?
Clare says
I’m sorry! I thought you were already in the middle of it! It just perplexes me how brutla the book is and how everybody loves it. I wish someone had warned me-I thought it was going to be a fun read!
Anne says
have you read the other two books?
the things that happen to lisbeth, while grotesque, occur for a reason.
kath- i won’t spoil anything for you, but i will tell you that certain events are vital for understanding lisbeth’s personality, character, and motivations.
Eileen says
I understand your perspective. I’ve only read “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” so far. I have not liked mysteries since I was 10 years old, and couldn’t put that one down. Why? For me, the Swedish perspective was interesting. The author’s voice was lively, and different than anything I’d read in ages. Lisbeth was a TOTALLY compelling character. And the inside take on journalism was very interesting to me.
I can see how they wouldn’t be everyone’s cup of tea, but I really enjoyed it, and will read #2 and #3. (But with a break … I didn’t rush right out to get them.)
Clare says
Thanks Eileen! I thought the Sweedish perspective was interesting too. I once read I Dean Koontz book about golden retrievers that was nicely written-and I thought-why does he waste his talent with all the gross stuff? I think I feel the same about Steig. Thanks for the insight!
Katie (The Boston Marathoner) says
My next apartment will be in walking distance from a Whole Foods. Mark my words.
Natalia - a side of simple says
I want to swim in the granola…
Natalia - a side of simple says
After rereading that comment I see how creepy it may sound… but hey, the granola just looks THAT good 🙂
Kath says
I swam in it – about 26 laps in 26 minutes of crunch 🙂
Paige says
I totally agree with you about the Nature’s Path granolas. We bought the Ancient Grains one last time we went to Costco. It was SUPPOSED to be for my boyfriend…but I ended up eating about half of it! So addicting!
Nelle @ Living Cliche says
I just finished “Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” and it is a slow start, but then out of nowhere it totally ramps up and goes off into unexpected places. I’m really looking forward to reading the next two in the series.
thepinkpeppercorn says
Gorgeous salad!
Lisa @ Fit in the Midwest says
Good choice on the book! I agree with everyone–I got the same advice too…took 100 pages and I couldn’t put it down. I am currently reading The Girl Who Played with Fire. Doesn’t read quite as fast, but I am still enjoying it.
Larbs says
I have the same problem with skinny jeans (obv, i have the same legs) and find that pairs with very soft material or stretchy material are better and I sometimes buy them a size bigger…
Kath says
The same legs for sure 🙂
I didn’t know it was you until the end of the comment when I looked up. Ha!
krista says
I too have big (strong) thighs and have a thicker pair of skinny jeans that are awful on me. Found some thinner stretch ones and they work much better!
Rachel says
Restocking the fridge and pantry is one of the most satisfying things about coming home from a long trip. I love being able to start with a bunch of new, fresh food.
Nature’s Path Granola is by far my favorite granola – I love the Hemp Plus variety. It has such a perfect crunchy texture without being greasy.
Good stuff!
the salty girl says
Lavender salt!!! I love it. I bet I could make that, though!
lynn (The Actors Diet) says
jeans/leggings tucked into boots is pretty much how i look all year round! LOVE big granola clumps.
Lea @ Healthy Coconut says
Good use on the lavender salt, I picked one up (new to me) in Napa during Foodbuzz trip. Does the salt wilt the greens a little? I’ll try it and I guess I’ll find out for myself.
I have no clue about cheese (well, not as much knowledge I have about chocolate) so it’s great seeing reviews on your post about cheeses that I have access to at Wholefoods.
Simply Life says
oooh those are fun dishes 🙂
Jillian@ Reshape Your Life says
That granola looks so yummy!
Stephanie says
I love skinny jeans w/ tall boots, but you know what I might love more? Jeggings w/ tall boots or even ballet flats! They are super stretchy and comfy but look just like skinny jeans! I wear mine wayyyyy to often haha.
Toni says
I cannot get over the cheese only costing 2.99! Around here that would totally set you back like 6 bucks!!! 🙂
Kath says
I always choose the SMALLEST hunk I can find (it’s smaller than the photos make it look) and often the cheapest of a variety too.
Carrie says
Have you had Laughing Cow’s newest flavors? They have blue cheese, queso fresco & chipotle, and mozzarella with sun dried tomato. All light versions.
Kath says
Oh cool! I haven’t had them!
Kimberly @ Servantless American Cook says
Your lunch looks delish and lavender salt sounds AMAZING! I love all your dishes too – Anthropology has the cutest stuff!
Katie says
Hey Kath! I went to Great Harvest for the first time today. They opened one on Mallard Creek near UNC-Charlotte right next to Trader Joe’s. It was amazing and I bought a loaf of Dakota since you always eat it! I loveeeeeeeeeeeee it!
Kath says
Yayyyyyy!!! We will have to stop in soon!!
Mimi says
I love the boots. That’s one of the top reasons I like fall! I also love Anthropologie. Your day was just filled with good things!
Interesting salad combo with the honey and salt. Good?
Maddie (Healthy Maddie) says
Cute boots! All of your eats look great.
Shannen says
pumpkin yogurt reminds me of the ‘pumpkin pie cakes’ you used to make back when you were counting calories- talk about ancient times! 😉 do you ever miss those?? i still make them! with chocolate chips!
Kath says
I haven’t made those in ages!
Heather says
I ahve been wearing slouchy boots and skinny jeans lately! SSOOO comfy! hope your mail came!
Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin says
Nature’s Path granola always looks so good, but I think most of them are made with nuts. It’s so tough being a food blogger with a nut allergy! 😛
Alicia says
Kath, that cheese looks amazing, as does the lavender salt. I love how just a few exciting purchases can make meals just that much more exciting!
Annie@stronghealthyfit says
Mm looks like a great lunch! I love big clumps in my granola too 🙂
Amy at The Scene From Me says
Wow Kath, your fridge looks wonderful! So many yummy things! You have none of the condiments like we usually have though: eggs, cheese, mayo, mustard, soy sauce, teriyaki, sugar free Tang, butter, ketchup, applesauce, hot sauce, parmesan cheese and yogurt!
Your healthful meals inspire me to feed myself better!
And skinny jeans and boots are so stylish right now! Fabulous!
Kath says
Condiments are on the door!!
Laura (Starloz) says
i stopped reading harry potter after book 4, i need to buy the rest. i’m a slow reader
Jamie says
My friends and I just had a Harry Potter night where we re-watched movies 5 and 6, and are planning a trip Saturday to see 7 part 1. CANNOT WAIT!!!
Hannah says
Oh gosh, I’m addicted to molasses right now – I would give so much for that granola!!
Lindsay says
recipe for pumpkin yogurt please!! 🙂
Virginia @ YtotheUmmy says
woop woop! rockin’ the skinnies 😀
and yayy i’m so glad that granola is good. there’s some flax variety they sell at my costco, which i LOVED. i’ve seen this one on the shelves, i think i might buy it 🙂
maya @ finding balance in tokyo says
My mom has a CSA share through Eat Well Farm. And I brought back a little jar of their Lavender Sugar scrub from the Farmer’s Market in June in that exact same jar. 😀
I have always been kind of shy about skinny jeans because of my disproportionately large calves, but finally caved and started wearing a pair over the summer. I haven’t tried them with boots yet, though, because none of my boots fit comfortably after training for my last race. doh.
Kaitlin With Honey says
I really, really liked the way you said big [strong] legs. It put a big smile on my face. You really do make for a good role model for anyone who needs one!
Kath says
🙂
