Matt and I give ourselves an allowance for fun spending so we don’t need to check with the other before buying things for ourselves (or gifts for each other!) Matt’s is almost entirely spent on beer hobby supplies and haircuts, and mine is spent on beauty and clothes. Or a pedicure or massage every now and then : )
Stitch Fix and Birchbox have been such fun additions to my life. Some people love the hunt for new clothes or make-up, but I love the element of surprise even more. Birchbox is a small enough investment ($10 a month) that if I don’t love everything it’s OK (although I almost always do), and Stitch Fix is great because your only risk is the $20 styling fee – which you keep if you buy one thing. For my first fix I bought 3/5 items, and I’ve worn all three a ton. My second fix was sort of a bust. I liked half of the clothes, but I ended up returning them because they didn’t fit me juuuust right. The third time has been the best! I kept all 5 things. The detailed feedback I left really paid off.
EDMOND CHEVRON PRINT HENLEY SHIRT // $54
Size: Just right
Style: Love it
Price: Just right
Fit/Cut: Love it
Absolutely love this shirt!! You can’t tell from the photos, but the fabric is super soft and stretchy – almost like bamboo clothes I’ve had? The colors rock and I love that the sleeves roll up or down. Emily and I can now be twins!
BRISTOL SOLID & STRIPED KNIT SHIRT // $68
Size: Just right
Price: Too high
Style: Love it
Fit/Cut: Love it
Super casual + cute – exactly my style! Love the nautical stripes on the back.
KALEIGH ANKLE BITER SKINNY JEAN // $88
Size: Just right
Style: Like it
Price: Too high
Fit/Cut: Just OK
I was really on the fence with these. They fit me like a glove and were super comfy, but the light color isn’t the most flattering on my legs. BUT they were unlike anything I own, and I feel like I need to step out of my comfort zone a bit. Plus I bounced the photos off of a handful of friends who all agreed they were cute and looked fine! I’ll probably wear a longer shirt with these to help balance out the bottom half.
EVIE DRAW STRING FUNNEL NECK SWEATSHIRT // $64
Size: Just right
Price: Just right
Style: Love it
Fit/Cut: Love it
If this kind of comfort is fashionable, I want to own all the fashion! This is totally my cup of tea – super comfortable yet made from an interesting material to keep it from looking frumpy. I almost returned this because we’re going into summer, but my autumn self is going to thank me : ) Plus, I might need it for chilly nights on the beach! So much cuter than the typical hoodie sweatshirt.
ALEXANDRA STONE STUDS // $55
Size: Just right
Style: Love it
Price: Too high
Fit/Cut: Love it
I loved these earrings for their simplicity and practicality. Aqua is my favorite color and I wear studs a lot of the time. They match so many of my clothes too. I would normally never pay this much for earrings, but I got them to complete the fix since with the 25% discount they were practically free!
And the best accessory of all!! My hot pink toddler who says he wants Stitch Fix for kids.
Overall
The total was $231 for everything because if you buy it all you get 25% off – now that’s a deal! In this case it was worth it to get the earrings for free. I put referral credits from my first fix towards this fix, which helped so much. If you are a blogger or have a big group of friends, have your friends sign up under you! I can’t wait for the next one : )
FYI, I have included Stitch Fix affiliate links above which kick back a small fee to me if you decide to use them!

I think skinny jeans are difficult to pull off. They seem to look best on thinner bodies. If you are open to our honest opinions, I’d say to send them back and check out the curvy straight cut from the Gap. They might balance you out better. I know this because I, too, have a shorter, thicker build – the cut is much more slimming!
carol says
I totally agree with you Amy. You almost need to be model thin to wear skinny jeans and look good. So very few can wear them well.
meg says
Curvy types can stick to darker washes and skinnies that actually fit and be just fine..
Melanie says
I disagree — I think they look great on Kath. I would recommend however that she get them hemmed shorter. I think these would look much better as cropped skinny jeans. It really does make a world of difference. 🙂
Andrea says
I think they look great!
Kim says
I think skinny jeans are for everyone. You just have to find the right cut for your body. I wear a size 14 and the skinny jeans I have are much more flattering than a looser cut or boyfriend jean
Jennifer says
I had stitch fix for about six months, but I found their quality of clothes to be poor for the price, plus I always felt like their clothes had that “worn before” consignment feel. Though their pieces are cute, It just wasn’t worth their prices for me, when I could find something similar at TJMAxx or Marshall’s for a quarter of the price.
Avalon says
Agree! I haven’t tried Stitch Fix personally (only viewed friends’ boxes and scrolled through blogger reviews) but my eyes never fail to do a double-take at the prices Yikes! And I think the styling fee is kind of a waste. I don’t know. I think for me, at least, part of the fun of clothes shopping is putting an outfit together by picking out the styles/cuts that I know work well on my figure. Having to return pieces that weren’t quite right would be a pain. But to each their own! Their clothes are definitely cute and trendy but you guys could find the same kind of pieces at a Marshall’s or TJ Maxx for wayyy less. Just a thought!
Michelle @ A Healthy Mrs says
Great pieces! I SO wish Stitch Fix was available in Canada!
char eats greens says
I wish the same, Michelle!! I’m glad they did so well! It’s great that you can give detailed feedback and actually have them LISTEN! So key!!!
Melanie says
I might have to give this a try… I love the jeans; they look great and the light color is perfect for summer!
Jessica Mumford says
It’s SO much fun!! Felt like my birthday!

You look like your sister in pic 1! The hoodie thing is perfect for the beach. Those jeans DO look good on you. Try ’em with heels one date night!
Livi says
I think those jeans are super cute. They’re perfect for summer!
Katie @ Talk Less, Say More says
LOVE those pants! I think they’re super cute on you!
Carolyn says
I really like the items you got. I tried Stitch Fix and then Tog and Porter, but I just can’t pay those prices. I’d rather spend use my shopping time to browse through racks at TJ Maxx and feel like I got a great deal.
I got a gorgeous Calvin Klein maxi dress there yesterday for $40.
Ann says
Super cute! I love abroad but otherwise would definitely give this a try.
This is a totally random question, but why do you take these pictures in the mirror instead of with an auto timer and tripod? Just curious, seems like it might be easier!
I def think the gray skinny jeans are a keeper, very flattering and totally agree would be adorable with heels.
KathEats says
It’s way easier..no going back and forth to see if I was actually in the frame!
Nancy says
I love all the tops! I just scheduled my first stitch fix…I’m a little hesitant though because so far, I’ve seen stitch fix mostly on SAHM or people with more casual jobs. My casual wardrobe is virtually nonexistent because I work in a professional (i.e. dressed up) environment all week. I hope to be surprised with some cute work clothes!
elle says
I requested work clothes from them and that is what they send me. They tailor your fixes to what you request, and I think we see mostly casual stuff on blog reviews because that is what the bloggers are requesting.
Karen says
I would echo this – I also ask for work clothes, typically, and that’s what I get! They really do listen to your requests. Last time, I mentioned that shirt dresses and wrap dresses work well on my frame. They actually managed to find me a shirt-wrap-dress (two birds, one stone) that I LOVE and wear to work frequently. The last two times, I’ve kept 3/5 items and wear almost all of them to work.
As long as you’re specific about what you want, I think it’s totally reasonable to expect that they can handle a work wardrobe! Good luck!
Ali says
I love that sweatshirt! It’s so cute.
Kristin says
What a great fix! I’ve been looking at Stitch Fix for a while now- I think I could use some help getting out of my clothing rut. Love the hoodie!
Jessica Mumford says
You should try it! I just got my first fix and kept 3/5 pieces…beautiful unique summer tops!

M says
Cute clothes! Any idea why they’d send so many long-sleeved tops/long pants, though? I’d think with summer right around the corner you wouldn’t wear most of that stuff until the Fall.
KathEats says
Maybe there’s just a delay. Or it’s cold at the HQ! I’m ready for summer stuff next time.
Mollie says
jeans are super cute. you may even want to try cuffing them a bit at the bottom!
Stephanie C says
“I’ll probably wear a longer shirt with these to help balance out the bottom half. ” there is really no need for this. These pants look amazing on you an now I want to request these on my next fix 😉
Chelsea says
I actually think that top works pretty great with those skinny jeans. They definitely need to be hemmed though, which will probably be ten bucks and so worth it. And I’d pull the purple out from the shirt and get a pair of heels in that color, if you’re impractical about shoes like I am. lol. Otherwise, a black pair of heels would make that a nice date night outfit, especially for the spring/summer when you want to wear lighter colors. I personally don’t care for the sweatshirt (though maybe I would like it better with different bottoms? Do you have any dark wash skinny jeans?) or stripped shirt but that’s just me. Not my body or money so you do you.
Alex @ Kenzie Life says
I think they all look great on you, though I especially love the green sweatshirt and the shirt with the stripes on the back! Way cute!
Hillary | Nutrition Nut on the Run says
love those stud earrings 🙂
Barca Mama says
Love the sweatshirt and the earrings!
A little off topic… You have mentioned budgeting in a few of your posts. Do you use a software or an individualized budget you created on your own???
Have a great weekend!
KathEats says
I have a custom spreadsheet that I use in conjunction with Mint.com. You can read more about it here: https://www.katheats.com/home-neat-home-the-numbers

My husband and I also have an ‘allowance’ system for our own purchases. We have a set amount that automatically gets transferred to our individual accounts after each paycheck. It’s nice to know I have some play money without breaking the ‘household’ bank. =)
Barca Mama says
Perfect! Thank you!
Emily @ Life on Food says
I really love the earrings!!
Kel says
StitchFix is like Christmas morning!
I have received 2 orders and have kept everything. Did I LOVE everything? No, but to return one thing and not get the 25% discount actually increases the overall cost per item. The team there is very smart that way! I ended up actually selling one of the tops to a friend that loved it!
My stylist was very responsive to my feedback from order 1 to order 2. Can’t wait for my next order!
Nicole says
I’m 5’1 with a figure very similar to yours. I got those same jeans in navy in my typical size 4, and I could barely pull them up over my thighs! The sizing for everything else they’ve sent me has been perfect so I was a little disappointed. I bristle at the suggestion that skinny jeans are only for tall, skinny people. Sometimes it feels good to dress on-trend even if it goes against traditional advice for your figure type (I think they look great on you). Also agree with previous commenters that the pieces are too casual – the stylists seem to think you can tuck anything into a pencil skirt and voila, wear-to-work! I’ve received a few fixes now and while they’re definitely not a “need”, it’s fun to come home to a package on the doorstep and try on things I wouldn’t necessarily have picked for myself.
christina says
I LOVE the gray top. The green sweatshirt looks a little big??? And I like the skinny jeans…I don’t agree that you have to be a super skinny model to wear them. I think if you put some heels on too that would look great.
Shel@PeachyPalate says
Oooh some nice bits!!! Love the cosy top and the one with the striped back! Cute earrings too, you did super good out of that one 🙂
Julia says
Those pants are really cute but do you plan to get them hemmed? That might make them easier to “pull off.”
KathEats says
Yes they are a little long
Eileen says
I love the chevron top! I personally could not justify the prices of the jeans or the earrings, especially without being IN LOVE with the jeans. I always need to try on dozens of jeans before finding the best ones for me. Surprisingly, about two years ago, that resulted in me buying a $14 pair that is still going strong. You never know …
Amanda Cowan says
I’m bummed to have missed that chevron henley. Super cute! I stopped my stitch fixes since my wardrobe is pretty much ready to go this summer.. maybe again in the fall I’ll get one. But the last two shirts I bought from there (can’t recall the brand) did not wash and dry well, despite hand washing and laying flat. It was like it shrunk and the seams sort of twisted. Admittedly I didn’t contact the company about it. But it was enough of a burn that I’m reluctant about future purchases
Jules says
I love the tops and the jeans look cute on you. Curvy girls can pull off skinny jeans too! By curvy I don’t mean “fat” you’re very thin and muscular too. The jeans stretch out as you wear them, so no end to go up a size.
Sabrina says
I love everything on you and I’m glad you kept it all! I pinned the sweatshirt and studs to my own StitchFix board 🙂
When you get the pants hemmed have them do the cigarette pant cut – a straight across cut right at your ankles. I think they’d look really sharp that way for date nights!
KathEats says
Never heard of that cut but these are the kinds of things I need to know!
ellie @ fit for the soul says
I think jeans in general are hard to pull off if they’re lighter in color! At least in my experience it’s usually that way. But I do love those, although I’d probably end up buying a darker color myself because it’s easy. 😉
Lauren @ Focused To Be Fit says
Oh yes, really good picks. My favorite is the nautical striped shirt. Rocking it with pink shorts is awesome, too!
Emily says
Do you know if stitch fix pieces are available on their own elsewhere? I feel like I need to own that sweatshirt…..but couldn’t find it with a google search…..
I’m definitely not ready to sign up for an entire fix just to get one item though, as I’m 31 weeks pregnant and spend 5.5 days a week in scrubs for work.
Thanks!
KathEats says
I don’t know 🙁
Jeanie says
Everything looks great, but I feel most items are too pricey. I definitely disagree that you have to be tall and thin to wear skinnies. I’ve seen many too-slim gals with them on, and they look disgusting. I’m 5’2 on a good day and weigh a lot more than you, and wouldn’t trade my dark skinny jeans for anything.
Danielle says
That shirt is adorable! My first fix was awesome and second one was terrible, so I’m nervous about my third. I’m glad to see others are still having good luck, though!
Kel says
I just noticed a quick correction to be made! You get 25% off your order – not $25 – if you purchase all 5 items. That is how they get me to keep all 5!
KathEats says
Thanks!!!! Good catch
Polly @ Tasty Food Project says
I think I’m one of the few people that aren’t signed up for Stitch Fix or Birchbox! They have some great stuff but I’m really trying to hold back on my spending and unfortunately I have to be careful with my budget. I really like those earrings! Aqua is one of my favorite colors too! It’s perfect for spring and summer!
Emily says
so funny, i have seen that chevron shirt on 2 other bloggers I follow, and that sweatshirt one 1 other blogger!
emma says
You look so slim!!
Julie says
LOVE the sweatshirt & chevron shirt!
Stephanie @ Whole Health Dork says
I really love the chevron top! So fun and different! I finally broke down last week and ordered my first fix. I don’t like shopping at all and I’m super picky (especially about fit), so I’m a little wary, but I think between the style profile and my Pinterest board, it’s pretty obvious what my style is. Plus, as you said with the grey jeans, I’m hoping to expand my wardrobe a bit.
