I’ve had such a fun and relaxing day!
Well, relaxing mentally – not physically! We climbed up Carter’s Mountain!
We met with Faith, Tate, Anna and Arlie and their dog to hike up the mountain from the Monticello Trail
Through the woods and up steep, steep hills!
And out onto Carter Mountain Orchard and Vineyards
Stunning views!
Smelly rotten apples
Scary mean guard dogs that Tate had to fight off with a stick!
But all in all, a wonderful 4 mile hike!
Arlie agrees!
Men and babies warm my heart [and my ovaries!]
I snagged a few grapes before we left…
…But I sure was ready for lunch when we returned!
Matt and I put together a bunch of leftovers with some eggins
Lotsa leftover kale
Grapes, which in our house are called gnomphs (Homer Simpson inspired!)
Toast + Great Harvest jam, which is the bomb!
Time for some pizza and football!
Erin (Travel, Eat, Repeat) says
It’s amazing what a difference the sun makes. Everyone seems happier and lighter when the sun is out.
Amanda (The Nutritionist Reviews) says
Hiking sounds awesome! I will have to wait awhile to do it though because we have over 2 feet of snow outside!
chelsey @ clean eating chelsey says
What a fun morning. Was it really warm enough outside for Matt to wear short sleeves? I’m jealous! I love what you call grapes – my dad is a huge Simpsons fan!
Katy (The Singing Runner) says
Beautiful pictures to document a beautiful day. 🙂
lynn @ the actor's diet says
cutie pie dog and baby!
Amy at TheSceneFromMe says
Warm enough for short sleeves Matt?
It definitely isn’t here, but that sunshine looks so nice! And that lil girl is precious, so cute in that hat 🙂
I’m looking forward to the commercials during the game!
Jodi says
Any idea where Arlie got the cute little hat??
KathEats says
I don’t.
j says
Short sleeves!!! Looks like an awesome day. I’m still shoveling here, had to shovel a path to my grill to cook Superbowl eats! Enjoy the commercials, that’s why I’m watching….
MonsteRawr says
*sigh* I miss hiking. Spring can’t come fast enough!
Katelyn @ Chef Katelyn says
Your photographs bring back so many wonderful memories of when I lived in New Hampshire! I miss a good hike, I hope spring comes soon so I can climb every mountain in the Adirondacks and not freeze:)
Slash scary guard dogs FREAK ME OUT. Actually any dog that is just roaming freaks me out..they might have rabies!
Courtney @ the granola chronicles says
Warm your ovaries!! LOL!
Freya (Brit Chick Runs) says
Your photos are stunning – do you have a camera setting to get that colour palette, or do you edit? Oh, and how do you always take such super self-portraits!?
KathEats says
Editing glory 🙂
Michelle @ Chasing Ambulances says
Your pics are looking great lately, Kath. I was curious about your photo secrets too but a girl’s got to keep some secrets right?? I love the pic of the truck. Someone should frame that.
KathEats says
Thanks! I’d like to keep my secrets secret, but I’ll do some thinking about it 🙂
Emily says
Ooooooh- I’m SO jealous of your nice weather. I ran 10 miles while it snowed this morning- I can’t WAIT for summer. Also, your photos are so cool! I loved the effect you put on them 🙂
sarah says
I’m sorry but I’m disliking all of you except for the baby for your warm weather activities with no snow boots and winter coats. Enjoy while we suffer. Southerners!
KathEats says
That’s why the south rules! You’ll get your awesome summers back 🙂
Jennifer (She's a Fit Chick) says
Beautiful pictures as always!! You should do another post about photoshop, like where you get your actions and which ones you use! 🙂
Caitie says
What a beautiful little baby girl!! And love the lighting in all of those pictures!!
kristen says
That lack of snow makes me so jealous. I need to move somewhere that isn’t snow-covered 4 months a year.
Simply Life says
I agree on the comment above and would love to learn from you about editing photos, ect! Great pictures!
Lauren at KeepItSweet says
So jealous of that hike right where you live!! Gorgeous.

It sounds like you had a wonderful day! I’m loving the sunshine here on the west coast too. It’s 73F right now.
What a cute little girl!
Natalia - a side of simple says
I may have just choked laughing at your comment about men and babies 🙂 Only in the words of Rachel Zoe, “I die.”
Melissa @ HerGreenLife says
What an adorable baby! I observed some cute man + baby time at the potluck we attended on Friday night. Good thing my hubby’s practicing — 5 months until we have one of our own 🙂

Looks like a wonderful day! So jealous of the weather you have. Love you sunglasses, too!
Ellen@fatgirlwearingthin says
Those photos soothed these tired eyes – thank you! All I’ve seen these past two months is pure white (although lately dirty) snow. Much appreciated 🙂
jen @ taste life says
Wow, that baby is absolutely gorgeous. I know what you mean about the warming ovaries!
Gayle Davies says
I recognize those “lotsa leftovers”! Thing is, when it’s done right, next day is just as good – and sometimes better! ;=) Thanks Kath!
KathEats says
🙂 Thanks for stopping in!
Kate (What Kate is Cooking) says
I love men and babies together!!
stacey-healthylife says
Great hike. Looks like you and Faith have become quit good friends. Looks like a lot of fun.
Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin says
Babies make my ovaries ache too… and I’m only 21! I still have a few years to go yet. 😛
Aly says
What a beautiful day! I am so jealous . . . in upstate NY it’s pretty darn cold and snowy!! I love the truck pic–very cool! But I have to ask what’s up with the lighting? IMO, it seems rather washed out. Please don’t be upset, they just don’t have the same life and vibrancy as they used to.
AJ @ Flowing to Fifty says
Envious!! Looks like a gorgeous day (minus the guard dogs, of course). I think my grandfather had a truck like that.
Annette says
Men and babies make me smile also! 🙂
Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) says
We have been hiking the past couple of Saturdays, but this one I was sick, so no hike. Yours looks beautiful! Enjoy your pizza and football tonight!

Brenda Bayless says
Loved the pictures from the hike. Hubby and I took our daughter and a friend of hers to Monticello this past summer. We stopped and picked apples and peaches at the orchard. The kids loved it eventhough we were there on a day with the temps around 105 degrees! We hope to go back this summer but on a cooler day!
Emily says
Amazing photos and looks like a gorgeous day 🙂
Lisa says
Lovely day! And cuuuuute baby. Oh babies.

Your hike looks absolutely stunning! You just reminded me how much I miss hiking and should take up again soon. I’ll have to get on that! Lucky for me, it’s been a summer day in my town, so I’ve enjoyed lots of outdoor activities 🙂
Justeen @ Blissful Baking says
These pictures are really beautiful! That little girl is the sweetest! 🙂
Erin (Shortcut to Bliss) says
What a gorgeous little one! The photos are amazing.
Kelsey says
Really fantastic photos lately Kath. What kind of lenses do you use? I’m looking to upgrade from my kit lens. Maybe it’s just me or my computer but they look just a bit overexposed or “blown out.” Maybe less is more with the editing?
KathEats says
I have a Canon 35 mm f/2.0
Tracey says
Love the photos Kath! Been following you since 2008 and have to ask, do you and Matt have babies on the mind at all?? can we expect a baby KERF in the next few years???
KathEats says
Hopefully in the next few years! I think we need to get the bakery open and stabilized first, but we definitely want kids
Allie @ Healthy Balance, Healthy Life says
I love your plates! And I, too, am a little jealous of your non-snowy hike. Only a little, though, it’s gorgeous here in Vermont!
Kasey says
That first photo of you is gorgeous! Looks like an absolutely beautiful way to spend the day.
Susan Mc says
Oh lawdy… a baby girl in layered hoodie AND knitted tights? Sigh! I need another child NOW!
And forgive me, it may just be the photo angle, but how many muzzles/straps are over that poor doggie’s face?! He looks so cute but rather miserable!
KathEats says
the poor doggie is not very well behaved 🙁
Paula says
It looks like the dog is wearing a Halti or Gentle Leader head collar. It helps with a dog who pulls really hard on the leash, makes it easer to walk and control them. Some dogs take a while to get used to them, and maybe he isn’t thrilled with it, but if it helps him get to go on hikes, he’d probably rather be there than home. 🙂
Andy says
I love reading your blog and looking at all your beautiful pictures – all very inspiring to me, but do you ever want time off from blogging? Are you ever just pooped from documenting so much of your life? Granted, in 50 years or so you’re going to have an incredible diary of your life, but do you ever just want to take a weekend off?
KathEats says
Nah – I really, really enjoy the creative process. Sometimes I want a night off when I’m traveling and it’s late and the internet is spotty, but not when I’m home and humming along
Andy says
I’m really glad you enjoy it so much because I really enjoy following along, but if you ever feel the need to step away for a bit of a break – I’ll certainly understand!
Baking 'n' Books says
Would love to have a day hiking! Enjoy your sunday.
Ellie @ The Mommyist says
That looks like a wonderful way to spend a Sunday.
J3nn (Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) says

Mary @ Bites and Bliss says
Gorgeous photos, Kath!! Glad you had such a wonderful, relaxing day!
Kiran says
Arlie is sooooo cute! Hug her for me please? 🙂
Allison @ Happy Tales says
Your hike looks like so much fun! I’m so glad that it’s starting to get warmer. I looove hiking in these cooler (read: not freezing) temperatures. And the Carolinas has some great hiking trails! Squeee!
Jil @ Big City, Lil Kitchen says
Ohh – Arlie is just too adorable!
Erica says
Beautiful views, friends, pictures, you, and day…not so beautiful MEAN DOGS! Eeeek, I have a phobia of big barking dogs, seriously! I was once bitten by a huge Great Dane while running and now I am petrified. I am ashamed to admit it, but I have also been chased by a pack – yes, a pack – of chihuahuas that really scared me to death! I laugh looking back at it now, but they sounded so vicious, and were fast! haha;-)
Kayla says
Beautiful photos, Kath. The very first one is my favorite. You’re so beautiful!
lindsay says
Those baby photos are REALLY good! So cute!!
:: Rochelle says
Gorgeous day and beautiful people! I looooove hiking! My sister and I joke about our “ovaries quivering” when we see cute daddies with their babies. 🙂
Casey says
Agree with you about the men and babies! Seeing Kevin with kids just shows me what a great dad he will be one day!
Ffion says
I love the photographs! What camera do you use?
KathEats says
canon DSLR XSI!
