I’m in some kind of a funk these past two days. Not mentally, but physically. Despite my Normalcy post on BERF today, yesterday I was sooooo tired and today I felt mildly nauseous all morning! It was also the second time I’ve had coffee (although decaf) this week and that might be the culprit. But maybe it’s just a baby growth spurt…
I was also insanely COLD this morning and had to turn on a space heater and put a blanket in my lap!
Despite feeling icky, I managed to get a lot of writing done this morning. And broke for lunch at 12:30 –
A deconstructed grilled cheese on Matt’s insta-bread with sharp cheddar + grapes
And a repeat salad from yesterday
Greens, avocado, hummus, lavender salt (REMEMBER THAT!?) and olive oil
I’m really looking forward to a walk and my yoga class this afternoon!
Khushboo says
Hope lunch helps you feel better, Kath!
Catalina @ Cake with Love says
I really hope that you will feel better and energized!! I love the grapes and cheese combo, yours sounds really appealing being on homemade bread!! Its been freezing in NJ too, I hate this wheather it makes me feel tired!
Sarah W. says
So I feel a little dense asking this but when you put hummus in your salad, how do you eat it? Do you mix it into the lettuce and toppings sorta like a salad dressing (along with the olive oil, of course)? Or do you scoop it with each bite?
Your deconstructed grilled cheese is totally making me crave a grilled cheese (not to mention that yummy GH bread!)
Hope you feel better!
KathEats says
I just scoop some with each bite! I rarely ever mix all my food up into one mosh – from oatmeal to yogurt bowls to salads. I’m a neat eater 🙂
Kathy W. says
You may need an extra hour of sleep at night. It’s like growing when you’re a child/teen, when 8 hours isn’t enough. And you may even need a short nap on top of that! Conduct your own sleep experiment 🙂
JessicaE says
This! I have always been a very energetic person, but as soon as I got pregnant I needed 8 hours plus naps… which is an insane amount for me.
susan says
I feel so bad you are having such a yucky pregnancy – hopefully your next will be symptom free!
KathEats says
Aw it hasn’t been all that bad 🙂
KathEats says
But I definitely don’t feel ready to say “I love being pregnant” yet…
Caroline @ After Dinner Dance says

i could REALLY use you lunch right now. Delicious, Kath! Still wishing I was married to a baker. 😉
Jen says
What are you writing now? Hope you feel better soon, I blame the weather partly too – damp and dreary, blech 🙁
Johanna B says
I’m a mixer-upper for the most part. I stir everything into one large mess before I eat it.
Beth @ South & Town says
So glad to hear I’m not the only one that eats my way through feeling gross! But speaking of nausea and coffee: a few years ago I started feeling nauseated after drinking coffee and thought it was the caffeine, but no other caffeinated drinks bother me. Just coffee – both caf and decaf. Sadly, I think my coffee drinking days are behind me. *tear*
Hope @ With A Side Of Hope says
I hope you feel better! 🙂
Cait's Plate says
It’s been freezing in Charlotte these past two days too. This weather is so crazy. It seems to have warmed up a bit now though (thank goodness!) so hopefully it has up there as well.
Hope yoga is just the trick to help you feel a little bit more like yourself!
Grace @ Grace Dishes says
I hope you feel better! I love the taste of sharp cheddar!
Lindzjane115 says
Hope you feel better this afternoon. Enjoy yoga!
Andrea says
Did you just toast your bread and then put the cheese on top while it was still warm? Or maybe broiled it? I’ve been loving my broiler lately! I hope you have a good rest of your day!
KathEats says
I broiled it in the toaster oven
Liz says
You are making me craving for chesseeeeee!
Jacqueline says
I had a salad with fresh lettuce from the garden today with a huge scoop of hummus on it! Great minds think alike! 🙂

Forgot to say send your coldness our way. It’s supposed to get to 90*.
Nescett @ bananaoats says
Yuummm! That cheese toast looks so comforting and oooey gooey delicious!
Janice says
I really dont like to eat bread much at all but lately you’ve been putting me in the mood! Especially for that scrambled eggs and avocado!
Katie @wishandwhimsy says
Hummus on salad? I’m REALLY liking that idea. I usually use Salsa, but I think this would add a new, tasty salad dressing alternative. I can’t wait to try it and thanks for sharing this post!
Emily says
I’m going to have to add lavender to my shopping list this week – I’ve been looking for more interesting flavors to add to my salads. Am stuck in a lime & vanilla rut! it’s served me well, but variety is always good. Thanks 🙂
Hope you feel better as the day goes by!
Angel7 says
I have been cold, too, but that is because it is so windy and chilly outside. We have our heat on, but I am still a little chilled.

Pregnancy…just about the time you think it’s smooth sailing, you have a morning (or all day) sickness kind of day. Hang in there!
Melissa says
Thanks for the tip on a cold fried egg sandwich back on your Mom’s B-day weekend. That post had me puzzled and thinking. I even emailed my sister the post and said can you do that!?:) I’m literal! So Ioved the option for today when I realized last night that I needed a portable lunch. I added spinach and avocodo to mine (cheese too). Loved the yellows and greens. Avocado added nice creaminess. I brought a ketchup packet just in case – but it was unneeded! 🙂
Jordan says
Where can I get that lavender salt?
KathEats says
I got mine in San Francisco but you can make your own. Check gracefulfitness. com
Trisha says
Just curious.. I’ve been meaning to ask for a while..
How do you put your meals together? Do you rely on a certain balance of food groups? Or just wing it based on what you’re in the mood for/ have available?
Thanks!
KathEats says
I do aim for a balance of protein, carbs, fruit/veg and fat. But mostly I just kind of piecemeal them together with this in the back of my mind
Susan H. @ The Food Allergy Chronicles says
Cheese on cheese toast…yum! Love it topped with tomato when they are season!

The cold in NJ is crazy also. Shouldn’t be like this!
Seanna says
Funny you mention that you feel like you’re in a “growth spurt” – I’m 22 weeks pregnant, just a few days ahead of you, and last week I SWORE I went through the same thing. One evening my belly just ached, and I was so tired. I’m still feeling that way this week a bit, and also feeling nauseous (yet super hungry), so I’m guessing the baby’s going through a spurt. I was surprised to see that the “fruit/veggie” the baby is at 22 weeks is a spaghetti squash cause that’s a decent sized veggie!
