It’s warm enough to….
Dine al fresco!! Totally crazy!
Matt and I knocked out 6.2 hard-core miles around 11:30. Emily is out of town and this is a light break week for my half marathon training (FYI, I registered for it last night!!!! It’s official!!)
Matt led me on a fast run. Miles 1-4 were 8:27, 8:13, 8:25 and 8:33. Then we hit a big hill on mile 5 and slowed to 9:11 and then got to discussing bread dough for mile 6 and wrapped up with 8:55. My quads are feelin’ it now!
Once home I made my usual Sunday SIAB!!
Dark dinosaur purple green from kale + berries
The Mix
- 3/4 a cup vanilla soy milk
- 2 big handfuls kale
- 1/2 banana
- 1/2 cup frozen berries
- 1/2 packet of Vega Whole Food Health Optimizer (I like this for protein, greens, EFAs and the sweetness it gives to smoothies along with the texture. It thickens the smoothie and is slightly gritty)
- 1 tbsp flax
- Topped with Mix My Granola Cinnamon Banana Almond Chia
I had a tasting plate on the side of fruits, veggies, healthy fats and grains
Kiwi, carrot + celery, Nuttzo and Seeded Spelt Dr. Krackers (which I didn’t finish and shared with Matt)
Yum!
Afternoon plans are to make a video for GoodBite, finish helping my mom make a website and walk to the shopping center to deposit a check.
Hope it’s warm where you are! Soaking it up since I know it’ll be freezing again before I know it…

Oooh, I love that the Nuttzo can be used equally well for savoury as for sweet. Do you think it could make a good satay sauce? Also, wow to the colour of your SIAB. Impressive!

Running RaceFest Half in Charlotte on April 10

Wow, that is so nice! I want to eat outside! Have fun with your half! My first half was amazing! I hope you have just as great of an experience as I did.
Macrae Carreker says
I love how you can just bust out speedy miles! You must be a natural athlete and you’ll do great on the half!!. Just curious, but what is your speed on a treadmill?
Kath says
Thanks!
What do you mean by speed on a treadmill? I rarely run on them, but I did last week and did intervals between 6.6 and 7.5
Heather says
I love eating outside! can’t wait until we can!

It’s getting warmer here, I can sense that Spring is on its way, but I also know that March is usually in like a lion, out like a lamb. So I’m expecting some more of Jack Frost before spring is officially here. 🙂

Congrats on signing up for the HALF! Awesome! 😀

how do you feel about guar and xanthan gums?
Kath says
I don’t know much about them other than that they are natural and extracted from foods. I dont’ think I’d eat them everyday, but I might like to try them out. I dont’ see anything wrong with using them.
Deirdre says
Its 46 degrees here in NYC and I’m pretty happy just for that!
Katherine says
Still so cold here! I’m incredibly jealous, but it gave me hope for spring. Enjoy!
Manda says
Can I ask why soy milk? I’m sure you might have said it somewhere in the past, but I wanted to hear your opinion. I’m a new KERF follower
Kath says
I like the taste of it and alternate between cow’s milk and vanilla soy milk from time to time.
lynn (The Actors Diet) says

Just went to our local farmers market out here in Brentwood, CA and we stumbled upon a Great Harvest tent! They were selling loaves of bread like crazy! The cinnamon bread is to die for, and I can’t wait to try the granola bar I got! You guys must be so excited to be repping the GH brand, what an awesome company!!
Sarah says
We’re loving the sun out here in Seattle too! Totally unheard of this time of year and while it’s not quite warm enough to dine al fresco, we are hitting the OUTDOOR tennis courts today 😉

Send some of that warm weather to Chi please!

I love how you dined outside! I live in Vancouver BC and it’s soooo nice outside! Perfect weather for sitting outside a coffee shop enjoying some gossip and iced coffees. Congrats for registering for the half marathon!!
Kelly says
I’m jealous of the beautiful weather you are having! It is about -10 C here and it was snowing earlier! We are expected to get TONS of snow this week so I don’t think I can hold my breath yet about eating or doing anything outside.
Congrats on officially registering!! I want to get into running one day. I’ve always tried it on the treadmill and just find myself counting the seconds tick by. I hear running outside is a whole other world.
Lauren says
Help your mom make a website? Has she been inspired to blog?

My neice is in Charlotte (Fort Mill, actually), and she’s a runner…wonder if she’s training for the half.
Good luck! You guys are smoking fast. I just got a Garmin, which is GREAT. I’m not as slow as I thought I was, but I still peak out at about 9:00/mile, averaging closer to 10:15 for longer distances, and 10:30 for my first half.
Heather (Heather's Dish) says
that’s so crazy you guys could eat outside! wasn’t it JUST blizzarding (or freezing rain) there last week?! lucky girl though…hope your sunday was awesome!
Emilyeatsclean says
Do you eat kiwi skin or as I like to call it…..the fuzz?!? 🙂

I’m sooo jealous of your weather – I live in Canada where it’s -5oC and snowy. I was wondering – what are EFAs?
Kristilyn (My 29th Year) says
How nice that you can dine outside! It’s getting colder here in Canada, so it’s treadmill runs and indoor dining for me. That’s okay though – it’ll sure make me appreciate those 3 days of summer we get! LOL!
Good for you for signing up for a half! I’m doing my first half in December in Las Vegas – I’m very excited about it! I’m slowly working my mileage up and have gotten to 7.2 miles so far – I can’t believe I’ll still have another HOUR of running to go, but it’ll be worth it because 3 months after the half I turn the big 3-0 and will be proud to say I’ve run a half marathon!
