We are into the part of the winter (because it’s technically still winter) where we get surprise 75-degree days. We have had quite a few in the last few weeks, and I have seen flowers sprouting up from the ground around town! I sure hope a blanket of snow doesn’t surprise us all.
Breakfast
Mazen won’t eat eggs, but he loves French toast, so it’s one of the ways I get nutritious eggs in him. I am pretty sure I fed him scrambled eggs his whole second year of life and he got totally over them.
Lunch
With warmer weather comes salad cravings. This one featured leftover salmon, avocado, blue cheese and blue cheese dressing, candied walnuts (which seriously MAKE the salad), and some chips on the side.
Snacks + Workouts
My indoor soccer seasons are over, sniff. I really loved playing indoor this year! I always prefer a smaller field because it’s just so hard to score on the big goals from the 30 yard line of a football field – unless you’re a superstar player! (I am not.) I am taking a break from my co-ed team this spring to focus more on women’s league. Two leagues on the same day was just getting to be too much, especially all of the driving.
Trail mix is such a great pre-workout snack because it’s so easy to digest and run!
Dinner
Pic from a recent date night. We went to Oak Hart Social and had a wonderful dinner!
I am on a mission to recreate this ricotta toast with country ham, apple, honey, mustard, and Brussels sprouts chips!
For a recent dinner at home, Thomas made the best fried mahi! He dredged it in flour, egg, and panko, and fried it in oil, classic style. We made zucchini, basmati, and a homemade tartar sauce on the side.
Remember a few weeks ago I mentioned the TV show The Sinner, which was recommended on the Young House Love podcast? Thomas and I watched it and loved it! It’s a total edge-of-your-seat mystery. We watched the first three episodes for free and then bought the rest because we were hooked. (There are only 8 episodes.) If you liked Ozark, this was a similar feel. It’s a nice start-to-finish story.
We’re going to need a new show soon. What do you recommend?

Check out Godless on Netflix! So good!

So many amazing meals! I love the salad you created at home. Such awesome flavor combinations. Cute photo of you & Thomas! Have you all heard of Broadchurch onNetflix? We just started the third season & love it!
Jess says
I started watching Broadchurch today – so good!!!

Oak Hart Social looks amazing, glad you had a good time. 🙂 I wish the weather here was warm enough for salads (well technically it is, it’s still 20ºC but I find that cold…). We’re having another cold spell at the moment. 🙁

Shameless (US version) is one of my favorite shows! Luther is also good, but dark.

You have to check out the Wegmans pan searing flour!
KathEats says
Ooooo! Yes!
Pauline says
You have to check out “7 seconds”, I binge watched it from finish to end! it’s 10 episodes and on Netflix. I liked Sinner and Ozark, too!
Tracy says
We also loved Seven Seconds! Highly recommend. Excellent series!
Jennifer says
OMG YES LOVED Sinner!! Watched it when it was on TV and it was hard to wait a whole week! Great story line and plot! Enjoy that!!
Melissa says
I’m looking forward to checking out a new TV show on The CW called Life Sentence! It looks like it should be a good one!
Philippa says
My husband (also a Thomas!) and I have got completely addicted to The Crown (on Netflix). I love historical drama and the royal family so this is right up my alley. And John Lithgow is brilliant as Winston Churchill!
KathEats says
I really want to watch this and hear it’s husband friendly. I will push for it next!
Pat Kilmain says
It’s really good. I’m into season 2.
Sally says
I’m really enjoying Gypsy on Netflix, although apparently it’s a one and done. It didn’t get renewed for a second season. We also loved 13 Reasons Why, although it’s pretty dark.
Tonya says
Thomas and these recipes! You attract some cookin’ men. LOL
Aimee says
Hand to god was good, also a kind of mystery thriller type. It’s either Netflix or amazon prime..it’s about a wealthy judge trying to solve the questions surrounding his adult sons death. Very captivating, especially the second season.
Slater says
I loved The Leftovers; one of the more thought provoking shows I’ve seen in the last several years. It is also one that actually gets better as the seasons progress (only 3 seasons). I find myself looking for people who’ve watched it so I can talk about it with them. I also really like The Americans; both of these shows are great shows to watch with a husband.
Lucy says
Yummm very interested in that ricotta toast recipe — please share, if you manage to recreate it!
I totally agree about soccer. I started playing 8 years ago and have played outdoor (full field), indoor on turf (small field – 7/side, but my favorite is indoor in a gym — 5 per side. So fast and many more opportunities to score! Plus the weather has no effect on the game!
Katrina says
The Crown on Netflix and Billions on Showtime or Hulu…my hubby and I tend to have very different taste in shows, and loved watching these together! Will have to try Sinner!
Sarah says
You’ve convinced me to buy the last episodes of Sinner. We’ve actually been enjoying Riverdale! Get past the first episode and you’ll be hooked! It’s fun.
Anne says
If you have Netflix, I would recommend Alias Grace, The Crown, Broadchurch and a new reality show called Ugly Delicious.

Loved ozark! I am now watching blood line

loved Blood line!! 🙂

I found your blog with your 2014 Key West Post. I used to be a corporate pilot and my boss would take his yacht from FLL to the Keys all the time and we’d fly guests down and sometimes stay until they were ready to head back to the frozen north. I miss the food. I just wanted to say thanks for your blog, as a Mom, foodie, and author, I love your photos, your meal ideas, and your writing. Best to you in 2018 from the Johnsons in Chicagoland.
KathEats says
Aw thanks for writing in! Wish I could fly down to the Keys today 🙂

How about so you think you can dance?!
Erin says
We are watching Ozark but it is just too raunchy for me. My husband is hooked though and has to see it through to the end. I’m struggling to find a show that hooks us both but doesn’t have atrocious language.
Steph says
My youngest was the same with eggs. Tamago (egg) sushi was a good gateway back to eating eggs. Highly recommend that!
Melizz says
I wish it was starting to look like spring around here too ! Where do you find your candied walnuts ? they look really relish !
KathEats says
They’re from Whole Foods 🙂
Claritza says
Trader Joe’s has delicious candied pecans.

LOVED, LOVED, LOVED ‘Imposters’ on Netflix. There are two seasons and it’s about a female con artist who lures her victims in to marriage and then takes off with their money.
KathEats says
Oh that does sound good!
Josh | BrainSharp says
The salad looks great; it seems very healthy and tasty! As it seems you have added rocket :). One of my favourite healthy greeny leaves :).
Eva says
I feel like I’ve never seen you post about game of thrones?! Because if you haven’t watched that yet… I can’t even fathom why not!!!
KathEats says
Yes we watched them all in 2016!
sarah says
How did you watch The Sinner? As in what network / streaming service? Thanks!
KathEats says
I was able to buy it though my Cable Xfinity. I think you can buy on USA.com too.
Lynn @ Oh-So Yummy says
I always forget French Toast requires eggs but if that’s what it takes… Your salad is wonderfully put together. I need some for lunch! Looks like a nice dinner out too! I’m still trying to catch up to old shows these days. Once upon a Time is my latest (on season 3 now).
