For the first time in ages I went shopping at stores!!
- First I was pregnant with Birch.
- Then I was not in a shopping mood postpartum.
- Then the pandemic meant I did more online ordering.
- Plus I really don’t love store hopping.
- But it. was. time! Here are the deets of what I got!
My focus is always on casual and comfortable.
True story: I went into Madewell and said to the woman “I’m wearing a maternity T-shirt with five holes in the front. Help!”
PROOF:
My focus was on T-shirts and comfortable shorts. Here’s how I fared.
Athleta
First stop is always Athleta! I tried on 26 different things but left with a few.
Run With It Textured 3.5 Shorts
These shorts are awesome! The fabric is like canvas meets quick-dry. They might be for running, but I will wear them for everyday! I love the overlapping side slits:
(That’s my black maternity shirt with holes!)
Trekkie Shorts 2.0
Love a good limited edition pattern – the green floral is different. My Trekkie shorts are my MVP shorts from last summer, but these 2.0 version have an elastic waist and not a button! I kind of like the button on my old ones, so the jury is out on the stretchy top of the shorts.
Conscious Crop Bra
I am all about the high neck bras and tanks these days. And the Powervita fabric is so buttery soft! I joked with the girls in the store that I am too old to wear this without something on top. They said “No way!” Perhaps I can compromise with a jacket on top, but I will most likely not be showing my midriff in public 😆
I’ll probably wear this an an everyday bra and not a high impact sports bra – see below for that!
I’m also wearing the Venice Joggers that I already own and live in!
Phenomnea Bra
This bra is brand new and great! I love the color, first of all, and the straps are adjustable. I also like that the back opens so you can get it on and off when you’re super sweaty in summer. The fabric is thick and molded and it supports well!
LOFT
My next stop in the same shopping center was LOFT! I went in looking for T-shirts and came out with a pair of dressy shorts, some cozy shorts, and a black tee.
Outfit #1 was a total bust. These pants are way too long for crops and this shirt – no.
Paradise Linen Shorts
I liked these shorts, but ultimately the “senior in Florida” theme was continuing and I just didn’t know if I could pull them off!
Pull On Shorts in Soft Twill
I bought these maroon colored shorts along with the Lou + Grey Black Muscle top! Love the elastic waist and pockets on the shorts. And the top is a dress-up-or-dress-down choice.
Lou & Grey Signature Soft Shorts
If you haven’t tried on the Signature Soft line where have you been!? Lou & Grey is the best! I have these shorts in the jogger version and wear them all winter long. I figured these would be great for weekend mornings in the summertime!
I’m on the market for actual sleep shorts too. I want to try on these at Target the next time I go.
Madewell
I now know why everyone loves Madewell! It was my final stop on the tour, and I think I had only popped in the store once before. Lucky me they were having a promo on shirts, so I bought 3 Whisper tees for $45 plus one more linen blend.
V-Neck Whisper Tee
This is a great fitting V-neck! Love classic black. It goes well with my LOFT shorts!
I also bought it in the color “Dusk Peri” to match the purple in my Trekkies.
Whisper Cotton Ringer Tee
Also in the Whisper collection, this one was part of the 3 for $45 too. Love the neck and colors.
Salutation Joggers by Athleta – an old favorite! Like the Align pants from Lulu in jogger form.
Whisper Cotton Crewneck
And here is my third and final Whisper tee in classic gray! The neck and shape of this shirt are great.
Linen Blend Asbury Tee
This has some weight to it, and I love the length and sleeves. The stripes are navy if you can’t tell!
That’s a wrap!

I appreciate you sharing a “no go” outfit – it normalizes that not all clothes/styles look the same on every body.

I went to Madewell 3 weeks postpartum because I NEEDED jeans after living in leggings & OHMYGOSH I am now a huge fan of the brand. I have never owned jeans this comfortable in my life. Love all of your selections!

Great outfits! I get those little holes in my shirts too! Any idea what they’re from or how to prevent them?
Kath Younger says
I have no idea! My MIL gets them too. Our only guess was leaning against the sink to cook/clean.

I get those holes too! It was a mystery for years but I finally figured it out – it’s from the top “corner” of my jeans – you know when you button them up and the little corner of the buttonhole side of the waistband tab sticks out a bit? Even though it’s not really sharp, the continuous rubbing was making tiny pinprick holes. A French tuck has made all the difference!
Kath Younger says
Genius!!! I never would have thought of that!
Natalie says
Me neither! Thanks for sharing. It has ruined sooooo many shirts! It’s frustrating. French tuck it is!
