CON of owning two businesses: working on Saturday mornings, Saturday nights and odd hours.
PRO of owning two businesses: taking a morning to roll around in a funk.
[Oh, and being your own boss!!]
I think I just overslept last night because I could NOT get energy to ANYTHING today! But what is odd is that the one thing I was in the mood to do was go to the gym. Not exercise outside – but be in a cold gym. Strange “craving” to have! So instead of doing an afternoon workout like I had planned, I went to the gym instead.
The minute I stepped outside I knew all I was lacking was fresh air! I picked some garden greens for lunch and then headed out. Since I missed Body Pump on Monday, I actually did some weight lifting!! Imagine that. And my arms feel pretty tired too. I lifted 15 pounders and did reps of 15 of biceps, shoulders, rows. Plus squats, lunges, tripceps, pulls ups and pushups. All sets of 15. I also did 3 sets of 15 minute on the elliptical – interrupted by water breaks. I love Better Homes & Gardens!!
Number of the day: 15
When I left the gym, it was raining! Just enough that I could brave the bike ride down to the bakery (which is luckily all downhill!)
MADE IT!
But you can tell how dark it got from these dim photos of lunch –
Kale, mustard greens, dill and lettuce, smashed together with olive oil, salt and SOY SAUCE which was so delicious!! I forget how much I love soy sauce. Plus leftover salmon and pecans. I topped it all with a slice of High Five!
Cantaloupe on the side –
And a nubbin’ of Savannah Bar left by my favorite snackster, Allie!! Miss you Allie!
During lunch the skies opened up and dump a monsoon. You can see the steam rising after it cleared!
And now the skies are blue again
I’ve got payroll to do and bread to eat other tasks that need me!
Hope it’s not raining for the bike ride home…
Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife says
Love the rule of 15! GEtting some weight lifting in feels amazing, it makes the day go so much better 🙂 Have fun eating bread (I mean, working! hah).

Great job! Way to stay motivated, even on a bad sleep, bad weather day! 🙂
Kate (What Kate is Cooking) says
Summer storms are so exciting!
Allie (Live Laugh Eat) says
I left you some apple chunks too to balance out the snack tissue!
I was in a pretty funky funk today too. Maybe it’s good we didn’t cross paths, after all. I WILL definitely see you tomorrow, though!
Sarah says
That’s exactly how it looks here in Fredericksburg, Va! ICK!
Cait's Plate says
We had a day like that last week. One second it was shining sun and the next it was dumping rain. Summer weather can be so weird – it’s almost like the 4pm showers in FL except once those are gone they never come back!
When I’m in a funk a good workout is always the thing to get me out of it. Even if it’s just a walk outside. It’s so funny how your mood can totally change as soon as you step out into fresh air.
Glad you had a good, sweaty gym session – sad for you that it’s raining (fingers crossed it subsides for the bike ride home!)
Kelsey says
I love being 2 hours behind you – now almost every time I sit down to lunch I have a new KERF post to read!
Angie @ Musings of a Violet Monkey says
Glad you were able to turn your funk around. I, unfortunately, have not been able to. It’s been a day that started badly as soon as I got to work, and has just gotten more and more frustrating.

Holly @ The Runny Egg says
We’ve had some big dumps of rain in the last few days too — I like that it is over quickly and it is pretty cool to watch!
Jenny @ Fitness Health and Food says
So sorry you’re in a bit of a funk, it definitely happens to me at least once a month! You’ve been working so hard you deserve some down time!
Hope you feel better soon! 🙂
Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat says
Wow that is some crazy rain! I love watching summer storms when they’re at night and if they aren’t a big inconvenience to me, but during the day is a little annoying – especially for biking!
Estela @ Weekly Bite says
The number of the day reminds me of Sesame Street 🙂
Samantha Angela @ Bikini Birthday says
How many sets of each exercise do you do?
KathEats says
Two
The Teenage Taste says
Hey, if it is raining when you bike home I bet it will feel good! It must be hot in C-ville if there is steam rising from the street!
Baking 'n' Books says
Did you go to the gym for the elliptical after the green-picking?
Sounds like your day got brighter! But girl – I’m pretty sure you could take Saturday night off from blogging and your readers won’t distress! 🙂
Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga says
“But you can tell how dark it got from these dim photos of lunch – “–
HA! you can never really tell how dim or bright it really was in my world with the beauty and magic of Lightroom 🙂 Natural lighting and taking a great picture on the outset is always great…but when that fails, gimme my Lightroom!
You were the one who pushed me over the edge about 4-5 mos ago to get it. And it’s amazing. I actually just hosted a give away for a copy of it on my site b/c I can’t stop gushing about my love of it. Photoshop…still need to learn that 🙂
J3nn(Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) says
There is nothing better than being your own boss! I wouldn’t trade it for any amount of salary.
Gina @ Running to the Kitchen says
I hate the steam/humidity that comes off the pavement after summer storms. Makes me feel sticky!
Anna says
It is amazing what a little fresh air can do to lift the spirits! I love that you put your cantaloupe in a small jar! I will have to remember this in the fall when I transport my lunches to school 🙂
Julie H. says
I like the set of 15…. 3 times! with a water break in between. So smart, why do I feel like I need to do the full 45…. 3 X 15 seems better!
Michelle says
I love that you used a tiny ball jar for your cantelope…I am obsessed with jars and their various uses around the house. I think you should do a whole post on jars as organizers, storage, food containers, etc….unless you already have…then point me to it!
Ashley says
I’m craaaaving good cantaloupe!! Still waiting for them at the market…eveything takes a bit more time out here. 🙂 Hope your funk was washed away!
Balancing Sylvia says
Bad weather always puts me in a bit of a funk. That’s why I love Arizona so much. Mts and sunshine everyday 🙂 I’m glad you turned it around with a good sweat session!
Christine (The Raw Project) says
Awesome job on working out even while tired! It helps me when I’m lacking on energy too. Great lunch!
Ellie@fitforthesoul says
Hope you have a day full of joy and peace Kath! I too love to work out when I’m not feeling good mentally or physically. haha, probably the opposite should be done, but sometimes blood flow helps! 😀
The Healthy Engineer says
15 is only one number higher than my favorite number, 14 😀
I hate cloudy and hot weather…it’s so strange!
Heather @ Get Healthy With Heather says
I can’t wait for my green to start growing quickly so I can pick daily salads. Hope you don’t get rained on! Nice workout too 🙂
heavenlygurl says
Wait! Wait! You can eat raw mustard greens?! I thought they were too tough to eat raw! Please enlighten… thanks your food always look sooo delish!
KathEats says
You can eat anything raw! They sure are horse-radishey though!
Meg says
I love soy sauce in my salads! Alas, soy doesn’t make my stomach happy – I started using coconut aminos (no soy, gluten free) and am a big fan. You should give it a whirl if you’ve never tried it! Tastes just like soy sauce, but better 🙂
Kristen @ Change of Pace says
We need rain so bad. I keep praying for those afternoon thunderstorms!
Maria @ Beautiful Busy Bee says
Hmm weird craving!!! I love how you wrote, instead of working out I went to the gym!!! 🙂 I dont have a gym membership, instead I do strength/running/cycling on my own. Sesame oil is great with soy sauce.
Laura @ Cookies vs. Carrots says
Sometimes the gym seems so appealing when it is hot out! However, as long as there is a light breeze, I generally prefer outside. Gotta love the fresh air!
Margo @ peanut butter trees says
Sounds like a good workout, and sometimes you just want to be in a gym surrounded by other people exercising, too. And sounds like you get plenty of fresh air as it is.
Caroline @ The G-Spot says
I know the feeling! Sometimes I just need a good gym workout. Glad it helped you out of your funk! 🙂
Casey says
That salmon looks so good and I love the loupe in a jar! Such a good idea I never thought of!
Lauren @ What Lauren Likes says
Anything in jars looks soo cute 🙂 I love putting fruit in my glass ones as well. Hopefully the rain doesnt bother your bike ride! I hate riding home in the rain!
kaila @ healthy helper! says
I have been feeling like a good gym workout to lately….just can’t get myself to renew my membership when the weather’s so nice!
Katie says
I did a weight workout with 15 lb weights today too, 15 must be a good number today 😉
Molly @ RDexposed says
Salmon in greens is so delicous. But when isn’t salmon delicious?
Lauren @ MRS says
It can be pretty taxing when you’ve set up your own company, but at the end of the day, the benefits outruns the cons! That looks delicious, now I’m craving to eat a salad for lunch today!hee
Jackie @ That Deep Breath says
That salad looks great! I have to say, I never get the craving to go to the gym but I usually always get the craving to go to the group exercise classes!!
Angel7 says
Today has been hot, not to mention the fact that there is something wrong with the air conditioner in our house–uggghhh–so we do not have cold air circulating! However, despite the fact that we do not have air, I am appreciating the fact that we even have air when it does work. It is all about turning something negative into something positive 🙂
The cantaloupe looks good!
I have been craving a watermelon smoothie or something of the such! It sounds so refreshing!

Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin says
It must be so nice to take a morning off when you need it – and it sounds like you did! I hope the rest of your day was less funk-y. 🙂
Jeannie says
Just wondering whether you ever worry about sodium? We seem to love all the same foods and I am a huge salt person, but I sometimes wonder if I need to cut back.
KathEats says
Because I don’t have any blood pressure /heart problems and because I’m athletic, I don’t worry about salt. I also don’t eat much processed food, so using a little soy sauce or sprinkling kosher salt on things is fine with me.
Khushboo says
Breaking up cardio makes it go by so much faster. I love getting in a good cardio and weights session together.
Hannah says
Soy sauce is just perfect with salmon! Hurrah for reconnecting with beloved flavours 🙂
