I woke up at 8 this morning (it’s cloudy and I thought it was only about 7!) with the urge to exercise. I thought I’d start with yoga, then go to the gym and have a hot shower before I got started on the day. It would be nice to have that all said and done by 9am. But the next thing you know I found myself reading in bed and then eating a bowl of oats and it’s 10am! Whoops. I should probably enjoy being able to have leisurely mornings because in about 10 days it’s back to the hustle and bustle of classes and 5am wake-up calls. I’m headed to the gym soon, though, as I still have the urge.
I toyed with making poached eggs + Chobani after all of your great egg recommendations, but you probably aren’t surprised that the wheatberries and peanut butter were calling my name.
The oatmeal combo:
- 1/3 cup oats, 1% milk, water, 1/2 medium ripe banana, pinch salt, splash vanilla
- 1/4 cup wheatberries
- 1 tbsp raisins, which I just add sometimes on a whim but LOVE them plumped up and cooked in oats
- 1 tbsp toffee pieces
- 1 tbsp ground flax
- 1/4 crumbled Honey Graham Z-bar
- Spoonful Smucker’s Natural
The usual…
You can see the cloudy sky reflected in this photo 🙁
See y’all for lunch!

I would definitely take advantage of not having to get up!

I know all too well how a morning can just somehow get away from you. It’s nice though on occasion 🙂

Your oats look amazing, as usual! This question is for everyone….after 10 days of indulging in lots of treats and wine, I am 4 pounds heavier than I was before(even though I haven’t missed a day of exercise!). I am sick of trying to diet and just want to eat normally….like Kath! Is anyone else in the same boat? What are your plans? My New Years Resolution(which will begin on the 5th after my kids are back to school) is to eat three normal sized meals a day…maybe a snack…rather than skimpy little meals throughout the day. I am hoping the weight will come off this way???? AGH….FRUSTRATED!

Oh how I love “the usual” =)

Kwaze, I think a lot of us are in that situation right now! You are not alone! For the past 2 days, I have just focused on getting back to “normal” and eating what I usually would before all of this holiday craziness. Also, I have been trying to drink lots of water and have been out walking places (despite Chicago’s FREEZING weather). I already feel better and much more in control–you will, too! I hope this helps:)

Oh I love the feeling of lazing around in bed with nowhere in particular to go.
Kwaze, I totally agree with Fancy (as usual)…

I’ve been enjoying a few days of rest. Still eating healthy but just giving my body a break. It’s amazing. I now feel refreshed and ready to go full speed again =)

Kwaze,
4 lbs in 10 days is really excessive, are you sure some of that isn’t water weight from sugar bloating? Sometimes after a few days of splurging I think I’ve gained weight but after a day of healthy eating it goes back down and I’m pretty sure it’s just water, give it a few days before you freak! Don’t get frustrated, I think the biggest step is to get enough veggies and fruit and whole grains, these are so filling that you’ll probably end up cutting calories naturally! Also make sure your doing your cardio, excercise is a natural appetite supressant! Good luck on your resolution!!!

happy new year 🙂

Cooked wheatberries right? It looks wonderful.

kwaze ,
I had my share of indulgence as well (late night ice cream sundaes, 4 glass of wine anyone!?) and always just resume my normal healthy eating habits ASAP. And it always helps to restock the fridge with fresh foods that you’re excited about eating so you don’t resort to the leftover junk food out of boredom. And might I add that a pound of collard greens and beans will get some of that extra weight out of you 😉 (And I agree that 4 pounds is nearly impossible to gain in 10 days so you’ve probably got 3 pounds of water weight lugging around).
Joie de vivr,
Yes, always cooked.
