My gosh, so many technical difficulties. So KERF was super slow today so I decided to chat with BlueHost to see what was up. I was then told that my blog had been “throttled” because it was slowing down the whole server due to some script errors. And that apparently my blog has been slowing down the server for months and they are quite tired of the complaints.
My response was: “So you turn the power off without even sending a bill!?” Gosh, an email would have been nice. Some time for me to fix the problem!? Instead of just shutting me down!? C’mon BlueHost, have some decency.
Good ole ZestyCook deserves a huge shout out for all of his help and support. I swear, I would probably be blogless without him. He and his pal Joe, who is a genius too. At first we thought I’d been hacked. We were going to risk everything and update WordPress to the latest (I’m a bit behind on that) but after some more Joe consulting, Zest decided that I really just need my own server. A $200/month server. Um, that’s not in the budget. At all. Not sure what’s going to happen, but I sure hope the problems are fix at least for the time being. Thank you Zesty!
So this was all going on while my great husband made dinner #3 of the week: a navy bean + squash + cilantro pesto + tomato skillet hash. (Totally morphed from the gratin we had planned tonight)
It was awesome.
Served with a half slice of Great Harvest Blue Cheese Walnut Bread (a local specialty the boys created)
And more Tazo iced tea
After dinner, we headed out to Nolan Kitchen to join our friends for a summer $2 beer special!
Caitlin, Kate, Allison, Amanda and Diana
I had a Blue Moon, but wish I’d gotten wine. But wine was 4-5x as expensive! I couldn’t justify it.
Matt snapped this photo. I never see myself from the side. I can’t believe this is what I look like!
Diana let me play with her Canon Rebel. OMG, I have to have one. Birthday countdown: 2 months and some days! We took pretty salad photos of Diana’s dinner. Here’s one with my camera. Head over to The Chic Life to see hers!
Coming into the garage tonight I almost stepped on a huge brown roach. Today is not my day 😥
At least the Eye-Fi finally started working again.
Goodnight everyone.
Christina MINDFUL LIVING says
hahah whenever i see myself from the side i think the same thing! i have to buy some tazo iced tea- i love their hot tea and i always eye up the iced tea boxes- i should just buy em next time!!

Hey Kath,
I LOOOOOVE my Canon EOS Rebel. That is what I use to take all the pics on my site. Highly recommend it. I’ll save you some time and research, Amazon was the best price. Ryan is the KING of researching price comparisons. 🙂
Looks like you are really enjoying your summer. Take care.

Kristin @ Iowa Girl Eats says
Awwww bummer about the server issues – technical difficulties are seriously one of the most annoying thing on earth because you feel so helpless! I bet dinner and drinks was a great way to get your mind off of it though 🙂 Blue moon is my favorite beer! Have a great (and roach free) night! 😀
*Andrea* says
you look beautiful from the side!
hope the web stuff gets fixed in a cheap fashion 😉
LK- Healthy Delcious says
I love my rebel!!! they go on sale at best buy all the time 😉
I hate my profile too.
And now you have me paranoid about my host. My site has been going down a lot lately. I wonder if I did something wrong somewhere along the line…
Kate says
You don’t look the same at all! I hated seeing all the pictures of us at the altar at our wedding because they were all profile shots!
Christina says
I love my rebel too, but it’s an expensive addiction!
Your village salad looks delicious!
Diana says
You have to get a DSLR! I looooove mine!
Nice recap – Nolen’s was fun! Hopefully, movie tomorrow!! Thanks for the budget app tips.
🙂 Diana
Heather @ Health, Happiness, and Hope says
Sorry to hear about all the connection issues. That’s terrible about BlueHost! Hope everything works out for you!
What a yummy dinner! And I just have to say that your necklace looks gorgeous. Is that from Africa?
I’m curious, how do you make your tea, both iced and normal? I’m never good at making my own and usually choose bottled versions, but I think it’s mostly because I have no idea how to make it!
Deva says
We love our Rebel, it’s almost all that I use now 🙂
The connection issues sound terrible and I hope that everything gets worked out painlessly and inexpensively.
And can I say that your dinner looks fantastic – cucumbers in any salad make it better.
JessicaR says
I used to use BlueHost and wasn’t really a fan! I use HostGator now and love it. I would definitely check them out… they’re soo much better 🙂
Rebecca says
Your dinner looks awesome!! I’m sorry you didn’t have a great day!! And eww about the roach!! I would have cried!
Marissa says
Yum!
Andee (Runtolive) says
Sorry about your troubling day. I hate technical difficulties! Dinner looks super light and delicious!
MarathonVal says
Oh my, I’m so sorry to hear about your blog troubles. I guess that’s what you get for being a fabulous blogger that everyone and their mother loves to read – shame on you for being so popular 😉
I’m sure it will all get resolved in good time, but in the meantime good luck and don’t stress!
Caronae says
Good luck with the tech issues! If you are slowing down their server, it’s only because your blog is so awesome and so many people read it!
Jenn (www. j3nn.net ) says
Yummy eats!
That’s totally lame what your host did. We have several dedicated servers and we’d be TICKED off if they throttled our bandwidth without notice. You can get a dedicated server (e.g., your own) for MUCH less than $200 a month with more bandwidth than even Google would need. Feel free to hit me up if you need some solutions, we’re in the biz! 🙂
Jenn
Rebeca says
1. Shush, you’re beautiful Kath!
2. Matt’s pretty awesome! That bread sounds amazing!
3. I want a Rebel too… or a Nikon D90 but I’m pretty sure they’re not just handing them out outside the stores, darn 🙁
KatieTX says
I have been able to see your site, but I can’t see Jenna’s blog for some reason. I think Blue Moon is always a good choice!! I am gonna get some tonight!
Jessica says
I have a canon rebel and I LOVE it.
good luck with the site issues!

I’m with you…technical issues can be a serious bummer! (yeah, I work in technology…and have SO been there!)
Sarah (LovIN My Tummy) says
You should have said, “I can’t believe I am this smoking hot.” That would have been awesome. You can still edit it and say it. Wait, that might crash your server.
amber says
you have to get a rebel!! they are SO fun and SOOOOO addicting!! I should blog more just to share my pics
Kelsey says
Your dinner looks delicious! I’m living in Texas for the summer and we have roaches everywhere! I literally killed 3 inside our house yesterday. They are so creepy!
Christie @ Quit Your Diet says
Yikes, sorry about your server issues. Glad Zesty was able to help you!!
Eve says
Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day!! I HATE techinical issues!
Nicole says
Buying my D-SLR was the greatest! It’s such a wonderful camera and a totally worthy investment.
Mara @ What's for Dinner? says
SO glad you got everything worked out, and I’m probably almost as relieved as you are that you didn’t get hacked!! I can put you in touch with a friend of mine who has unlimited server space…maybe he can help you out until you can afford your own?
leslie says
wow, technical difficulties, bees’ nests, roaches – i hope your friday goes better!
matt’s dish does look perfectly summery!
Sarah (Running to Slow Things Down) says
Isn’t it funny how we never recognize our side profiles because we never see ourselves that way? I always have to take a second look when I see pictures of my side profile because I barely recognize myself. haha… 😀
Melissa says
Looked like a fun gathering! We got all of our stuff done, thankfully!
Barbara says
OK the Bee post and twitters have me laughing out loud:)
Have a great weekend!

yeesh! what a day! bees, down blog, roaches!!! too much!!
at least your din looks great! and I totally know what you mean about the side profile. Sometimes i see pictures and can’t believe it’s my face! who knew??
Kristen says
Oh, I’m full of camera envy now!
I do the side face thing with my mirror and it’s very strange to me!!
Yummy salad!
Cait (Cait's Plate) says
Ugh – Kath. I hear ya on the not-so-great day. I had one of those yesterday too.
I hope today looks up for you!
PS – I’m DROOLING over that pesto. It looks better every time you use it! 🙂
Cynthia (It all changes) says
Totally not cool for them to just shut you down like that. So unprofessional to not at least give you a heads up. I hope all is fixed now.
I love how Matt cooks for you and it’s healthy. Hunni likes healthy food but is not a great cook. Unless it can get thrown in a pan and cook itself we end up with salad or chicken burgers. Not that I mind most days because that at least gives me a night off. He wants to take a cooking class when he finally has time.
Kath says
Heather,
I made my hot tea in the microwave (gasp). I’d use an electric kettle if I had one! I made the iced per the package instructions.

Jodi says
Hi Kath, your blog does seem slow today but I normally don’t have a problem with it loading. When the page loads today, it seems to get hung-up by google analytics.
Anyway, your blog is it’s worth the wait 😉
thepinkpeppercorn says
Kath! Great to catch up with you after being in ITALY for a month!! And certainly glad your blog is still running – yikes what craziness!!!! Yay Zesty!! ewwww….roach, and YES you need a rebel, you’ll love it!
K says
Blue Moon is still a respectable choice! Sorry about the hosting issues – you can’t help your blog is so popular 😉
Rachel says
That’s a pain about all the server/hosting issues. Being techonologically challenged I have no advice for you, but I hope you can find a workable solution.
In the meantime, you should eat more of that amazing sounding bread. For me, because I’m not anywhere near it. 😀
