Ouch!!! I feel like I ran a half marathon yesterday. And I have no idea where the IB profin is! I slept hard until 5AM when I woke up with a mind racing with house ideas. I tossed and turned for an hour, uncomfortable, and then finally went downstairs to locate my eye mask to black out the sun.
Those things are a lifesaver – I was out hard for another 2 hours before we got up around 8:30. Our bedroom is so pretty in the morning with the light coming in 🙂
The oats got lost in the move!!!
Thankfully, Bob’s Red Mill saved the day:
New stove!! I know gas is supposed to be top of the line, but guys, I realllllly like flat-top stoves!! They are just sleeker and less tipsy and risky with flames.
Welcome home french press!!!!! As much as I love him, Karen’s coffeemaker was whispering in my ear how nice it would be to have a maker that is already brewing when you get up…I’m thinking about getting one!
Jess’s muffins had to be involved!
- 1/4 cup 10 Grain mix
- Splash milk
- Lots of water
- Half banana
- Pinch salt, vanilla
- Crumbled Banana Nut Muffin
- TJs Sunflower Butter
My LOVE iced tea spoons!! Rosanna is my fav for the shape of the head 🙂
Front porch breakfast for two
The best part!
The Restaurant.com deal with Open Sky goes through the end of July. Take advantage.
Ready to wear myself out again!!
zestycook says
I think I need to get the kids a block out for their eyes… so they sleep in later 🙂
Marilou @ Mostly Healthy says
Oh man, I wish I had a nice porch like that! I can picture Matt and you, at 90 years old, sitting on your porch 🙂
Anna @ Newlywed, Newly Veg says
It must be so strange eating breakfast in a new house!
Moving can DEFINITELY make you more sore than a regular workout would. Painting always makes me super sore too, ha!
Jessica @ How Sweet says
I LOVE my gas stove! Maybe it will grow on you!
Freya @ Brit Chick Runs says
I can’t wait to see how you organise the house – are we goin to get to see pictures?
Beautiful sounding breakfast, as always…
Ok Chick says
Eating on the front porch. *Sigh* Jealous!
Megan says
Oats lost in the move– that’s like a fate worse than death! I’m so glad Bob’s Redmill came to the rescue. He has been my savior a few times too 🙂 Congrats on the move btw!
Beth @ Beth's Journey to Thin says
Wow that breakfast looks awesome!! I’ve been thinking the exact same thing about an auto drip coffee maker lately…
tanyasDailyProductReviews says
Those muffins look really good and so big!
Evan Thomas says
Looks good already! Can’t wait to see how things are when you’re all moved in.
Samantha Angela @ Bikini Birthday says
I prefer electric ranges too. I’ve always had one so that’s what I’m used to cooking with. Plus a flattop can double as extra counter space!
sweetersalt says
I love gas stoves and currently have an electric – I’m jealous! You’ll probably get used to it. They’re great because you have SO much more temperature control.
Karen says
Try to enjoy each moment of organizing your new environment, Kath. It will all get done…
(So excited for you!!)
Paige(Running Around Normal) says
I’ve never used an eye mask! I find the mask itself to be more of a distraction than the light, heh. That’s great you have such good morning light shining in your bedroom though:)
Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) says
So exciting! What a great way to start the day at your new place! Enjoy today!!!
Stacey@http://stacey-healthylife.blogspot.com/ says
You have such a relaxing beautiful porch. Have a fun day of packing. I have a gas stove, you will learn to love it, they are wonderful.
Annie@stronghealthyfit says
I love Bob’s 10-gran cereal. It looks even better with a muffin 🙂
Anon says
you are so cute the way you call it IB Profin!! It’s ibuprofen 😉
Sarah for Real says
That was a nice way to say it. I was going to mention it myself, but that’s because it’s just a pet peeve of mine, haha. Is it really that hard to add the extra “U”? Ibuprofen. Aahhh… now I can sleep at night. Sorry Kath, I know I’m being picky, you can ignore me, it’s compulsive. 😀
Caitlin says
Haha…I was going to mention it too, but I didn’t want it to come off as rude. Misspellings are just a major pet peeve of mine, one that gets worse every day that I spend on Facebook witnessing the many ways people can butcher the word definitely.
Jillian says
ibuprofen = baaaaaaaad! kath, i can send you natural remedies for whatever you’re taking it for.
CJ says
Oh puhleese…get a life Jillian and stop trying to force your unscientific, baseless beliefs on others
Jillian says
WOW, people are getting nasty around here- ha! Calm down, I was offering Kath supplements- I work for a supplement company, dear. I’d assume she’d be interested in free natural supplements since she’s into healthy living. You’re just being reactive, anyway- ibuprofen, as a drug, has side effects and there are a lot of things you can take that are actually more beneficial in the long run- that actually help your body heal instead of merely masking symptoms.
Michelle @ Turning Over a New Leaf says
Congrats on the new house! We placed a deposit on our first rental house yesterday and one of the things we’re excited about getting is a gas stove! We’ve been cooking off of generic electric ranges for years, and I’ve NEVER ever cooked on gas, so it’ll be a fun new experience!
Daniel says
I love to eat on the front porch, it’s a great way to start off a day. We have a rocking chair almost identical to that one except it’s brown. And I absolutely love those ice tea spoons, I need to find a store that sells stuff like that around here soon.
Have fun organizing and making your home yours!
Sami says
i love rocking chairs on a front porch. such a classic looking scene 🙂
Marisa @ Loser for Life says
How nice to be able to sit on the front porch and enjoy breakfast!

Oh I envy the fun fresh feeling you are having this morning. There is no way I’d be able to go back to sleep. So much to do! Congrats!
Camille says
Your new place looks to quaint and lovely! I have always wanted a place with a front porch so I can fully immerse myself in the old lady lifestyle that I have become accustomed to 🙂
Michelle @ Give Me the Almond Butter says
You have such a beautiful porch! Good luck moving more stuff. I hope your muscles get a bit looser.
leatitia says
Pouring yourself a cup of coffee right after you woke up is great, but your french press is so adorable! I say keep it for the weekends 🙂
Amelia says
So glad you both made it safe! Good luck with the unpacking and settling into your new life. 🙂
Carolyn @ lovinlosing says
Beautiful front porch! My husband and I would like to add a front porch onto our house…after we replace all the windows & the back door, finish painting ALL the trim, update the kitchen, replace the carpet downstairs, replace the interior doors….;)
Heather says
thats one thing I hate about moving, never being able to find things in the boxes!
Wei-Wei says
Those muffins look amazing! I hate it when my life habits get messed up by things lie moving 🙁 can’t find the oats?! HORROR!
Wei Wei
Marie says
So glad you’re getting settled in, but it’ll all get done soon enough, don’t worry! LOVE breakfast on the front porch… makes me want to find a rocker for our teeny back porch 😀
emily says
I grew up with a gas stove and was so sad when my last three apartments had electric, and now my new apartment has gas and after three years of it I miss electric!
I know what you mean about moving soreness too, I would say that our 2-day move last weekend practically left me >sore than my half marathon.
Tracy says
Just wait! You’ll learn to LOVE your gas stove…I don’t think I could ever go back to electric!
Little Bookworm says
Glad that the move went well. Hope you have a great day!
shannon (the daily balance) says
no surprise how sore you are with all that manual labor you did yesterday!
enjoy your day 😉
p.s. you will end up LOVING your gas stove – I promise 😉
Ellie says
LOVE THE ROCKING CHAIR. My parents are looking at houses/condos for me for grad school (I start working toward my RD in a month) and I really want a porch were I can have a rocking chair. It would just be so Andy Griffith
Amelia says
Totally with you on the gas v. electric stoves. I had a flat topped stove growing up and now have a gas stove in my apartment. Sooo much harder to clean! Plus I hate how things can fall down into the space underneath the cooktop. I guess it’s good to know my preference for when I get my first house!
Btw, congrats on the move!! I hope everything starts to settle in nicely for you and Matt!
Holly @ couchpotatoathlete says
I love waking up early with thoughts racing through my head (exciting thoughts, not nervous, anxious thoughts). Breakfast looks amazing as usual, and I love having a coffee pot with a timer — I can wake up to freshly made coffee. It definitely helps me get out of bed on cold winter mornings.
Enjoy your day!
Andrea @ Thin Thighs & Sweet Potato Fries says
Love the front porch rocking chair! I am from the Midwest so you don’t see these quite as often where I’m from. It wasn’t until I moved to the south that I got to experience the pleasures of sitting in a front porch rocker, sipping sweet tea! Ahhh…country living at it’s finest! 😀
Kate says
Oh, Don’t give up on the french press!! It sucks to wait sometimes in the morning, but my favorite french press trick is to make it mid-afternoon & then put it in a large travel mug in the fridge for iced coffee the next morning:)
chelsey says
What aperfect first breakfast for your new home! Looks amazing!
Rebecca says
My boyfriend won’t live in an apartment that doesn’t have a gas stove! Here’s a trick he taught me that will turn you on to gas ranges immediately (pun totally intended): Turn on the burner. Throw a tortilla directly on top of the flame. Wait 8 second. Flip tortilla. Wait 8 more seconds. Perfection.
Katelyn says
You will soon LOVE your gas stove for cooking…imagine instant temp control, roasting peppers right on the burners, s’mores, ability to make a hot meal if the power goes out. But in the mean time, your porch is amazing!
The Wife of a Dairyman says
Love the new digs! Have a great day:)
Megan (Braise The Roof) says
Congrats on getting into the new house! Your porch is adorable- looks like a good place to relax with a book and a cup of coffee. 🙂
Claire says
Your new place is really great!!I’m so glad you guys made it ok…those muffins look delish.I haven’t had a banana nut muffin in toooooo long:-)cc
Gavi says

Chelsea says
Your breakfast looks wonderful, as usual. I have to say, I love your new house! It looks so quaint and like it has a lot of character. I hope you guys are settling in well 🙂
Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine says
My mom wears eye masks too…she has gel-filled ones and she swears it makes her eyes less puffy. What a beautiful porch! Good luck unpacking!
lynn (The Actors Diet) says
whenever i first move in somewhere i don’t sleep for days until everything is exactly how i want it. then, for some reason, once i’m settled, i can’t be bothered to keep everything that way!!!
you’re gonna love your gas stove – especially when it comes times to blister tortillas and roast red peppers and ginger on it! you can do onions too!
CJ says
Hmmm….just a slight hunch….but somehow I doubt that Kath will be roasting onions on her gas stove. Wild guess.
jessica says
LOL CJ!
Halie says
Congrats on your new home! Place looks great!
Amanda (The Nutritionist Reviews) says
Good luck setting up the new house! How exciting!
Also, I have 8 giveaways going on on my blog right now if anyone is interested!

Erin says
I think you might come to love the gas stove – it really makes cooking so much better! I wouldn’t want to live without mine.
Callie says
I just wish I had a front porch like that! 🙂
Lara (Thinspired) says
I LOVE your porch and rocking chairs! So charming 🙂
I’m with you on flat top stoves. I think they’re easier to operate and better looking!
Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin says
That porch looks perfect for enjoying your breakfast! You have such a pretty view! 🙂
Caitlin says
Congrats on the move and the new place! So exiciting!! 🙂

Danielle (Runs on Green) says
I’ve seen that 10-grain mix and seriously contemplated buying it for 5 minutes. Would you recommend it?? Sheesh I have your french press and now I want your oats. I’m such a copycat 🙂
Monique@She's Going The Distance says
I bet you’ll be loving your gas range in no time! I grew up on a gas range and since college/after, have only had electric. They kind of scare me, and I’m excited to get back to gas at my next place 🙂
CMae says
I love the feeling of being in a new place with wide, open options for decorating and organizing — I can’t wait to see what you do with the place! Good luck getting settled!
P.S. I’m a new reader (I started around the time of your beach vacation), so I’m having fun flipping through the archives!
Cynthia (It All Changes) says
I love gas just for temperature control. I grew up with flat tops and never thought I could adjust but I never want to go back.
stephanie@Avocado Nation says
Eeeeeee!!! I love front porch sitting. How awesome!
Ugh, moving is intense and so hard to do. It can really make you sore!
Chelsea (Chelsea's Chew and Run Fun) says
Ah, breakfast on a beautiful porch. That looks so serene. I used to have a programmable electric drip coffee maker, and while it was nice to have coffee waiting for me on early mornings, the quality and flavor of the coffee just didn’t live up to the french press. Though, the electric drip is extremely helpful when you know you’ll be in a rush!
Have fun nesting!
Ashley says
I went from the flat top stove to gas and LOVE the gas…and it’s even a really crapppppy stove. It doesn’t even have any sort of clock! lol – I think they are much easier to clean. I was always burning things onto the flat top stove! I love the way the gas cooks so much more! Muffinny oats are the best! 🙂
Cara says
Oh man I have to help someone move this weekend. thanks for warning to keep pain meds in safe distance. haha. I hope the soreness goes away soon!
Dynamics says
Once you get used to the gas stove you will love it. You have more temperature control and can do more things with it. Love, your porch.
Eileen says
And the neighbors probably thought, “WHO is that cute couple having breakfast on the porch?” 🙂
Enjoy setting up the house! It’s hard work, but in a fun way!
Kathy W. says
My ideal would be a gas top/electric oven combo. We’ve always had all gas, and the ovens tend to give off more carbon monoxide when they first light up as they get older (and by older, I mean a few years). I would definitely have a CO meter in your house, both because of the stove & if you have a gas water heater or furnace.
P.S. The morning light is beautiful in your pics!
Meagan says
“New stove!! I know gas is supposed to be top of the line, but guys, I realllllly like flat-top stoves!! They are just sleeker and less tipsy and risky with flames.”
^ Don’t worry Kath, you’ll only feel that way for a while. My mom was THE biggest skeptic when it came to gas stoves, we got one after my prodding and she LOVES it. Really, it makes cooking soo much easier!
Catherine says
I love gas stoves, but I do understand the sleek factor with the electric 🙂
Your new place looks great, hope the settling in goes well!
Sarah (Running to Slow Things Down) says
I love the rocking chair!! Too cute. 😀
Your oats look especially delicious this morning. Must be that banana nut muffin. Mmm…:D
Kerri @ Kerri Turns into a Zombie says
The porch view looks fabulous. Enjoy organizing the new digs.

Can someone tell me about the open sky and restaurant.com deal? I can’t seem to find it anywhere….. thanks!
Kath says

Katie says
Thanks for the reply Kath – I appreciate it!!

Kath, I’ve been a follower of your blog for a while now. You take the best food pics! I’m always in the mood for a snack after reading. Best wishes in your new home! I’ve been drinking Vitamin Water lately and some flavors can be a little sweet and syrupy so I add water too.
Laura says
Those muffins look hugeeeeeeeeee!
I bet it’s odd eating in a new place again! x
Jackie (Peaces of Earth) says
I have never been more sore than after my most recent move-in day when my roommate and I decided it would be a good idea to move my bedroom, her bedroom, the living room, dining room and kitchen ALL BY OURSELVES. I can only imagine how you feel today!! At least you have those delicious looking muffins to make you smile. 🙂
Simply Life says
So glad you’re taking advantage of the porch!
Mary @ Bites and Bliss says
Gas stoves scare me..dont you have to light a match every time you fire one up? My aunt has one and I feel like I’m gonna blow the house up every time I heat up some soup. :/
Stephanie says
omg i would LOVE to have a gas stove!! makes for such even heating and really is the best if you’re really into cooking! want to trade for my flat top electric, I’ll gladly send it to ya 😉
Hannah says
It’s so nice how excited you are about getting all your stuff back, even though it’s only been a little while since you packed it up! I guess your crockery feels like family? 🙂
megan says
Kath, can you put pre-ground coffee in your french press? I always thought coffee needed to be specifically ground “coarse” for the french press so I was avoiding the new Starbucks flavors (since they are ground for a drip coffee maker), but I really want to try them!
Kath says
Yes, I put anything and everything into my french press and it seems to work fine.
Chelsea says
I have gas now too and miss my glass top SOOOOOOOO much!
