Well geez, that was quite the blizzard!!! We got about 18 inches, and considering they were calling for 30, I’d say we lucked out. It was the most snow I’ve ever had fall at my house though in 33 years! I can’t imagine what another foot on top of that would have been like!
We had a great time though, and were so thankful we never lost power or had to leave the house for an emergency reasons. We cooked good meals, went sledding, made warm soup, sipped wine and played games.
Cozy breakfast numero uno – French toast with egg, pear and sunflower butter.
And numero dos – fried egg, pan-cooked pear and more sunflower butter (Naturally Nutty – so good!)
For lunch I had a stir-fry of veggies – peppers and eggplant – plus tempeh and a dill/salt/yogurt sauce on top.
And a Cook Smarts Broccoli and Cheese soup on our biggest snow day. {Despite the face, he LOVED sledding!}
I cooked while the boys continued sledding and they came in to hot soup! The recipe called for white wine so lunch did too!
Dinner night one was a homemade miso and tofu soup that I’ll be sharing this week!
Plus another Cook Smarts recipe – orzo and canned salmon salad with tomatoes and artichoke
We had a great time sledding in our yard but kept the camera inside most of the day for protection. Alas I didn’t capture many photos, but he wore himself out going up and down the hill with our neighbor friends!
Post wipe out!!
Grown up friends!
What was once our deck chair!!
Sweet angel face : )
On Sunday we dug ourselves out and I walked downtown for a 90 minute hot vinyasa flow class at Hot Yoga Cville!! Perfect snow day activity : )
Afterwards I met my friend Jess at The Paramount to see the movie Rent, which I’d never seen. It was quite sad!
Hope y’all are all shoveled and safe!

Great weekend – That soup looks so so yummy! Here is Atlanta, we got about 1 inch – maybe – which was disappointing!

The miso and tofu soup sounds delicious! Looking forward to hearing more about it!

Glad you all stayed safe!! One of my friends text me last night to say the roof caved in on the Trader Joes near her house! They were luckily closed so no one got hurt, but it’s just so crazy!
KathEats says
Oh how scary!
Danielle says
Is she from NJ? My friend’s Trader Joes had it’s roof collapse. I’m assuming its the same one. Small world!

Oh wow! You got so much snow! It loos like you enjoyed it though and had a fun and cozy weekend!

We haven’t had snow in two years here! When we do get it the whole place goes in to shut down with just a few inches, we’re so ill prepared for it!
Julia says
We are safe but still snowed in. We got 30 inches, a new record for us. We also have had fun sledding, digging snow forts, making and eating soup and (some if us) sipping wine. I’ve been working on some projects I’ve been meaning to do forever. One is making dryer balls from old wool sweaters. I can’t wait to see if they felt correctly!!
Liz @ I Heart Vegetables says
Haha this snow storm is CRAZY! But I’m kind of enjoying the excuse to stay inside 🙂 And the snow does look beautiful! Now if I can just reign in my online shopping 😉 haha
Kate says
I loved chair shots via Instagram! We definitely didn’t get anything quite like that here in the Charlotte area, but it was just enough that I could stay inside!
Jen says
Glad you had a good weekend and didn’t get too pummeled! We are at 36 inches in rural Maryland, UGH! The plow is supposed to come rescue us today! Being stuck inside (with a very stir crazy toddler that can’t go out because the snow is taller than her) has been a trying experience at times 😉
KathEats says
36 inches!!!
Jen says
YES! The plow guy just started our driveway (1/3 mile) and said the snow is 5 feet deep due to drifts. Glad we don’t have to shovel out, lol!
Kelli @ Hungry Hobby says
Way to make the best of it! This looks unreal to me (Arizona born and raised) but the food looks delicious! I’d like to recreate that and pretend I’m having snow days!
Amanda says
That snow is just nuts! I grew up in Northeastern Pennsylvania, so that’s what a lot of our winters were like growing up- and I loved it. I’m so glad Mazen got to experience snow like that!
Randy says
Great snow pics Kath, M looks so happy playing in it.
Your broccoli soup looked sooo good!
Have any extra snow to send our way? We don’t have any but I love snow and cold weather.
Have a great day Kath!
Mary @ LOVE the secret ingredient says
What a fun day in the snow, and that Orzo and salmon looks delish!
Hilary says
Nothing is better than snowing weather and delicious food! Hot yoga sounded fabulous too!
Faith says
Wow!!! That is a TON of snow! I wish we had snow where we are at! Glad you all are safe!
By the way, a hot vinyasa flow class is the place to be on a cold, snowy day, if one can make it there safely 🙂

I live in the western DC suburbs and we got over 40″ needless to say we are still digging out which is comical to this northern New England girl. We had similar days of cooking, baking and lots of snow playing!
Olivia @cravebalance says
Looks like a fun weekend!! I only got about 2 inches here in North Carolina.
Kelsey says
Looks like you guys enjoyed the snow! We got just about 24 here in NoVA – schools are still closed! It was so nice Sunday when the wind calmed down!
mary @ minutes per mile says
i made the CS broccoli cheese soup, too! perfect for this cold weather 🙂
Carrie @ Season It Already' says
It’s strange to see snow like this on your post! I’m often jealous of how nice out it is this time of year when you post photos of the outdoors. 😉 We’ve had the least snowfall in 7 years in Minnesota so far! Quite the difference!
Emma @ Project Body Image says
Woah that’s a crazy amount of snow! Glad Mazen enjoyed the sledging though 🙂 x
