MATT HAS A SNOW DAY!! He had his alarm set for 2:40AM and just got the call that they are closing the bakery for snow + ice. Now we can spend the night together! The Office, 30 Rock, Conan!
I got home a little early today
I ate my pear in the car and then wanted a snack around 4:00 before yoga. I think it’s the hungry two weeks of the month!
I didn’t know what to have for snack and mindlessly nibbled my way through a few bites of things trying to decide! Not the smartest behavior 🙂
First I had a bite of a week-old hunk of Flax Oat Bran. LOVE this bread even a week old!
Then I taste-tested the trail mix Matt brought home from grocery shopping
Then I also taste tested the Trader Joe’s peanut butter that we just restocked ON a hunk of Flax Oat bran! That did the trick!
Kept me full till 7:30 after yoga.
THEN IT STARTED TO SNOW!!!!!!!!!!! I was in a hurry to get to yoga so I didn’t snap a photo, but my gosh it was exciting!! Tonight’s workout was snowga.
Y2Yoga was awesome as usual. I met Emily for the 5:30 hot vinyasa class with Tanner. The class was great. I consider it a great class if I’m tired at the end and my limbs feel a bit HOLLOW. Like those baby dolls that are filled water? Water babies? That’s how I feel after a good class! Tanner often plays Jim Gaffigan clips during our final long-hold poses. Tonight he played this one about religion that had me CRACKING UP! [If you are easily offended please do not listen!] Tanner also played this awesome mash-up by DJ Earworm that yours truly sent him after hearing about it on Jenna‘s blog last week. LOVE this song!!
Came home and made this totally awesome dinner of SUPERFOODS!!!
I call this an Insta-Mexican bowl:
- 1/2 a cup of black beans tossed in cumin and turmeric
- 1 heaping tbsp pickled jalapenos
- 3-4 glugs of Cholula
- ~1/4 a cup of Mexican blend cheese
= all melted together
Topped with avocado, cilantro and greek yogurt!
It was awesome!!!!!!!!!
A pile of butter-sauteed kale. WOW – butter + kale are a match made in heaven. [Matt cooked this before I got home]
And a cinnamony sweet potato half. No comment on the position it’s in!
I had a little POM in a wine glass to sip in lieu of the real stuff. Love my antioxidant mocktails.
So many nutrients!
I hope to wake up to a blanket of white for sledding….but I have a feeling since it was 60 degrees just yesterday that it’s going to be slush. And hopefully not ice!
Nite!!
Jessica @ The Process of Healing says
Yumm on the dinner!!! That bowl is such a great idea. You never cease to amaze me at your creativity in the kitchen.
And so cool about the snow! I live in Spartanburg, SC and it started snowing around 3 today and hasn’t stopped yet. This is pretty big for here! I’m hoping that it sticks to snowing and no ice. Don’t want the power to go off, which usually happens when we have ice.
Kath says
Did you know Matt is from Spartanburg!?
Jill says
Mmmmm..superfoods look yummy~making me hungry! To the kitchen woman!
Gracie @ Girl Meets Health says
Isn’t it funny how snow days are still SO exciting, even when we’re adults?? I’m happy you guys get to spend the night together now =)
Cole says
Yeah, up in TN we’re getting snice (snow + ice). Everything is just wet and slushy.
Kristen @ Change of Pace says
Girl, keep that snow up there! I don’t think it’s supposed to snow here… Just rain and coldness… My sister goes to NC State and she said it was already snowing up that way. Sounds like tomorrow would be a good morning for oats! Stay warm!!! 🙂
Morgan @ Healthy Happy Place says
call me immature, but I laughed pretty hard when I saw the picture of the potato! hahaha 🙂
Food Makes Fun Fuel says
How good for Matt; and enjoy the snow!
Danielle (Coffee Run) says
Haahahaha I was def. laughing over the sweet potato pic 😀
I’m glad you and Matt get to spend the evening together! Enjoy your friday/snowday
Katie@ Two Lives, One Lifestyle says
Aw so wonderful that he has a snow day!! Enjoy your time together!
Lisa @ Early Morning Run says
looks like a great meal! Nice & warm for a cold night!
I totally agree with you on knowing when a class is good. A class has to leave me feeling spent when I’m done to be a good one!
Have fun tonight!
Jil says
All of that looks soo good! Esp. the pb and bread. yummm.
Jeannie says
After reading your posts forever, I finally broke down and stopped by a Great Harvest. OMG! I’m not a bread lover, but I couldn’t resist taking home a loaf. The DH loaded up on muffins and cinnamon rolls. YUM!
Maggie says
What an awesome dinner! Yum. You are definitely inspiring–and how great to have a snowday! And a hub who makes you butter-sauteed kale! Happy happy Friday!
Heather @ Health, Happiness, and Hope says
Yoga is definitely the perfect way to start out your weekend. Enjoy your day with Matt tomorrow! 🙂
Anna @ Newlywed, Newly Veg says
Snow-ga…gotcha! It took me a while to figure that one out 🙂
Have a great weekend!
Karissa says
I really appreciated your Breathe article. It came at the perfect time! I’ve definitely noticed the same thing in my eating behaviors – being ravenous just before and sometimes during that time of the month and a slight weight gain. These last few days I’ve felt pretty bad about it, but your article reminded me that I’m not crazy and it is biological and to just stay in tune with what my body needs. Thanks for the lift!
Karla says
It’s definitely the hungry time of the month for me! I was a bottomless pit today!!
Yay for snow days!!
Jenn (www. j3nn.net ) says
Beans with cheese and avocado sound sooo good! Love your tasting plate, so many nutrient-rich goodies. Yum! 🙂

Mara @ What's for Dinner? says
Butter makes just about anything better… butter and bacon 🙂
Allie (Live Laugh Eat) says
I CAN’T believe I was running in 60 degree sunshine yesterday and now it is pouring snow!! The triangle area is a flippin’ out!!
I didn’t know the Trek mix doesn’t have peanuts!!! OH GOSH I need to get some next time I’m at TJ’s.
Glad you got a little date night with the hubz!
Cynthia (It All Changes) says
Oooo fun yoga. I’m looking for a place to take a Hot yoga class after reading about it so much with you, Jenna and Heather. But the closest place is at least an hour away. Darn.
Fei Fei says
OMG, I’m still chuckling as I type this. Thanks for that Jim Gaffigan clip! Definitely made my day 😀
candice says
It isn’t snowing here (yet), but it’s freezing cold! I stepped out of Wegmans about an hour ago and—brrrr! How long does GH bread usually last before it becomes stale? I bought a loaf last week and I have about 1/4 of it left (single-handedly polished off 3/4, hehe).
Your dinner looks so colorful and delicious! Especially with the Mexican cheese. We have half a bag of that left from TJ’s… looks like I need some melty cheese + avocado action tomorrow 😀
Kath says
Usually at least a week
Erin (Travel, Eat, Repeat) says
That dinner looks so incredibly filling and delicious. Awesome! 😀 Enjoy your snow day!
Jenna @ RunEatRide says
Beautiful dinner, so many colors! haha you can come take some snow from where I live, we have over 20 centimetres worth, definitely enough to go sledding in! 🙂
Jenna says
Love TJ trail mix!
Glad you were happy about the snow:)

Brittany says
Hooray for snow! We’re suppose to get our dumping tomorrow so hopefully I’ll be doing a little snowga in the AM.
Perhaps I missed it, but did you announce that BrewandBake is no more?? Isaac and I went looking for it tonight and realized the domain was free. :/
Kath says
Yes Brew + Bake is gone 🙁 Stupid Matt!!
Katharine says
Enjoy the snow and your time with Matt! My sister lives in Memphis and got called off work too!
Chelsea says
You sound so excited-it’s cute 🙂
Hannah says
Wow, getting a snow day called when your day starts that early must be such a relief. It would be so cold that early in the morning!!
Foy Update - Cook. Garden. Write. Repeat. says
My magic combination is cilantro, sour cream, lime and hot pepper. Put that on anything and I’ll eat it. Even if it’s ice-cream. Well, maybe not ice-cream.
erika says
That bowl of beans etc reminds me of a place called Cafe Yumm. Have you heard of it? I think they are only in Oregon right now. Anyways, they are AMAZING.
Sara V says
Glad you guys are now able o spend some time together and your meal looks great! I still haven’t tried kale and am going to make it a priority to buy on my next grocery outing.
*Question for Everyone*
I have heard a lot about GNU BARS lately – any comments?
I looked all over and I couldn’t find anywhere that ships to Canada and I really want to try them 🙁 Any Canadians happen to have tried them and know of anywhere they are sold here?
Thanks ladies!
Heather (Heather's Dish) says
hurray for snow days! we don’t get them too often in denver, but it’s so awesome when that happens! hope y’all enjoy the whole day together 🙂
lynn (The Actors Diet) says
i’ve never had butter and kale together – duh – of course it’d be delicious!!!!
Ashley says
Some of the simplest meals are the best…and they’re always just a wee bit better when they take less than 10min to make! Just had one like that last night..mmm Nice potato, haha 😉
Freya @ foodfitnessandfreya.wordpress.com says
Yay for snow days! Haha you’re a woman of good taste – 30 Rock? Yes please!!
Delicious looking dinner as usual…
Ashley says
Here in Raleigh, I just woke up at about 4:30AM and there are several inches out there of definitely not-slushy snow! I was expecting much out of the forecast but it’s good snow and it’s still coming down! Yay! Here’s to snow days all weekend (and maybe into next week!)! 🙂
Kath says
Fun!! My mom got snow in Hillsborough too 🙂
Jessie says
Yay for snow days! I’m guessing you don’t get a lot of those where you are 🙂
Heather (Skinny Ambition) says
Can’t remember the last time I had a sweet potato. That looked good and easy (baked with some cinnamon?)
christie @ honoring health says
Just woke up to a couple of inches here in Richmond, it is supposed to snow all day. Snow weekend!
Simply Life says
Huh, now I’m intrigued to really start “listening” to my body more!
Lauren @ eater not a runner says
I can’t believe you’re having snow down there!! Hope you get some good sledding in!
Heather @ Side of Sneakers says
Yay! We got snow too! But it’s definitely getting slushy and gross-not so good for sledding 🙁
Jamie says
durham got almost 8 inches of snow!!! i hope you got snow and not slush 😉
ps. really jealous of your dinner and hope matt gets more time off work with all this weather!
Suzanne says
Your food always looks so good!
Have you tried Tapatio? It’s very similar to Cholula and it’s a lot cheaper, which is always a good thing! 🙂
