We had back-to-back snow storms last week – our first snows of the year! The second one that came through on Saturday actually ended up being worse than the first, but thanks to warm temps on Sunday, most of the snow is gone already.
We woke up to quite the flurry of snow falling on Saturday morning and decided to make pancakes to celebrate being warm and cozy inside.
Unfortunately we weren’t all that warm – our heat decided to putter out! It wasn’t flat-out broken, but it wasn’t holding past 61 or so. A repairman has been called!
We urged Mazen to go outside with us and play in the snow, but he opted to stay inside and do some arts and crafts with Grammie.
So Matt and I went out sledding! We started at this killer hill over at the church – it was SOOO fast and steep! I was terrified.
And we ended up over at Burley middle school, which has a series of hills cascading down. I went head-first down on my first run and ended up with some serious whiplash after getting air on one of the hills. Those hills are steep!!!
The rest of the time I went down feet first and cautiously. It was some serious sledding!

We came in famished and I inhaled a half a PB&J standing up before deciding a salad would be a healthy choice after a few days of crazy eating at Gram’s. I topped it with canned salmon (which I am only so-so about in this form – I prefer it as a choppy salad), cheese and a homemade honey mustard dressing made with olive oil, lemon, honey mustard and Dijon mustard.
Mazen took an epic nap that afternoon making up for lost sleep the night before. We could barely wake him up!
We drank some special Sonoma wines for dinner and made a Cook Smarts Sausage + Barley soup with cheddar garlic bread on the side.
And I made Kylie’s Cookie Dough for dessert!
Sunday morning we had French toast for breakfast and lots of hot coffee. 365 Almond Butter drizzle FTW!
While the snow thawed outside, we played with kinetic sand (that stuff is amazing!) and played with all.the.toys.
Happy Monday!

I don’t blame Mazen on this one…I’m not a big snow fan either! Glad that you guys made the most of it though, and good luck with the heater repair 🙂

Love that you celebrated the snow with some pancakes and sledding! We’ve had steady snow since December but there isn’t any good hills around 🙁

So fun that you and your husband got to go out sledding, sounds so fun, I’d love some sledding right now, here in PA the SNOW WON’T STOP! ah. I might just have to make some of that soup to get over it.

I so enjoy reading about all your adventures and lifestyle. Your active lifestyle is a great motivator for me. One comment I would to say about the “eats”. It’s obvious from your background and education (and the name of your blog!) , that you emphasize eating whole foods. And it seems that raw salads are a daily part of your diet, even in the middle of winter when it’s so cold and windy and dry. I wonder if it would be more nourishing and satisfying to have warm, moist( lightly steamed) greens and grains while the weather is so harsh?
What are your thoughts on this? Thank you.
KathEats says
I think that does sound delicious but cold salads are so much easier to prepare 🙂

Yup, the snow keeps falling here in Pa. We’ve been sledding a lot. It is currently our exercise of choice. My son went sledding with friends last evening complete with an outdoor hot chocolate party. My friend K rocks for planning such a fun event for the kids. BTW, my son, who is 10, is just dying to get some kinetic sand!!!

I would die if our house was only 61 degrees inside! I’m glad you called the repairman! The snow looks like tons of fun. Enjoy 🙂

The kids definitely like snow more than the adults in this house!! Lol! Sounds like you had a fun day of sledding and a fun weekend overall 🙂
