You know how they say you absorb more knowledge when you sleep on it? Well I sure did. I studied chemistry on the ET this morning and it was amazing how much clearer my brain was thinking at 5am than at 9:30 last night.
But I have to digress with this story:
(WARNING: If the thought of two married people sleeping in the same bed makes you squeamish, skip ahead
)I have a tendency to mumble absurd things just before falling asleep sometimes. Once in college a friend came into my room late at night and I asked him if he had been playing “that game with a ball and a stick.” He responded that he didn’t know what game I was talking about and I said “oh, yeah, me either.”
So last night, just as I was falling asleep, I apparently scratched the husband’s knee a few times, which was over on my side of the bed. He asked me what I was doing, and I sat up and said “I just wanted to pet the animal!”
I totally didn’t remember the story until we left the gym this morning and he said “Do you remember petting the animal last night?” After he reminded me, I totally remember feeling the fur on his leg and thinking it was a dog! LOL.
Fabulous oats this morning –
- 1/3 cup oats, 2% milk, water (liked the milk, but the cottage cheese made it hard to do a true evaluation)
- 1/2 banana
- 1-2 tbsp raisins
- 1-2 tbsp wheatberries
- Vanilla
- 1/2 cup cottage cheese (the husband didn’t want any so I heated it in the microwave in the bottom of my bowl and it curdled. Definitely not as effective as stirring it into the hot oat pot).
- Granola plank
- The very last of the Toffee Butter PB 😥
A new tea: Madagascar Vanilla Red Rooibos by Celestial Seasonings
Off to take this test!!! Then I can relax the rest of the week and just get normal stuff done. OMG it’s only a 4-day week because this weekend is FALL BREAK!!! Sweeeeeeet.
Celia says
too funny about you petting the husband!! I’m famous for ‘sleep talking’ as well, so you are def not alone, haha! 😀
I spotted Celestial Seasonings tea on the supermarket shelves today … but I’m not sure if they have the vanilla one … did I say I <3 tea?! 🙂
Jana says
I just laughed out loud about the sleeping story.. that is hilarious and has totally made my day! 🙂
caitlin (seebriderun) says
hahahahhah very funny. future husband says i bolt up in bed and say stuff as well.
Amanda in Pittsburgh says
HAHA Kath! I do that sometimes, too – especially when I’m stressed out! Good luck on your test today!
PS – I made oats for the first time this morning (I made the Pumpkin Oats) and they were amazing and SO filling – thank you!!
Betsy in Pittsburgh says
The sleep talk made me laugh out loud, I’ve got some good stories of my own like that. One time I woke up to hear my boyfriend lecturing someone on not being wasteful…
Amanda, hi from a fellow pittsburgher!!
coco says
good luck on the test Kath!!!
zestycook says
HAHA that is hilarious. The oats look amazing!! Great stuff… good luck on the test!

Ah yes, I too retain more information when I study right before bed, and then again in the morning – hooray! 🙂

Melissa (the other one) says
LOL – that story ROCKS! Too funny 🙂
I do the same thing though….just as I’m falling asleep I’ll say the most random things sometime and get reminded of it in the morning! 🙂 Keeps life interesting I guess!
Good luck with the test!
Katie says

My dad and I bond over trying new kinds of tea – and we both love the red rooibus you had this morning. I’ve had a sore throat the past few days and can’t get enough of Bigelow’s vanilla chai and vanilla caramel.
Good luck, and enjoy your break!
Lee says
Hehe. I do the same thing. My boyfriend never lets me forget the night that I fell asleep on the couch and he tried to wake me up and I told him, “I love Wilco.” as in the band Wilco. I don’t even really know many of their songs! Random.
Rose says
That dream is hysterical!
LT says
Hahahaha! I love stories that involve saying or doing crazy things while asleep! 🙂
Melissa Sue says
Madagascar Vanilla Red Rooibos is my ALL TIME FAV tea. I read about it on another foodie blog, and I LOVE it.
How did you like it?
Meghann says
I swear my ex used to have full on conversations with me at night and never remember a thing the next morning. Apparently I wasn’t the only one he would talk to in his sleep either. My brothers would refuse to share a hotel room with him at my cousin’s weddings becuase they said his talking/ loud snoring creeped them out. Luckily I’m a heavy sleeper so it neve rbothered me 🙂
Neol says
Oh, my gosh, I totally know how you feel: I cannot WAIT for Fall Break!
Megan says
Good luck on your test! Your story really cracked me up!
mg says
Hey Kath – I’m a long time reader, first time commenter – I love your blog! I was just wondering if you’d heard of mona vie yet? It’s a fruit blend made of 19 different fruits, including the acai berry, and it tastes awesome. you’re supposed to drink 2-4 oz twice a day and it provides you with the equivalent of 10-13 servings of fruit (antioxidant-wise)! Just wondering if you (or anyone else) had heard of it yet, or if you’d be interested in more information or trying some. Thanks for all your hard work on the blog – it’s so fun to read!
Mel says
Your story is too funny… I know I do that kind of stuff too.
Good luck on your test today, and lucky you, you get a fall break.
Ana says
weird because we just started the chapter on sleep in psychology! i was actually *ahem* “reading” it this morning when i checked your blog! haha! apparenty sleep talking and sleep walking are fairly common problems so don’t worry, you’re not a freak -_^
sarah says
good luck on your test! i bet you will rock it!
i just googled the toffee butter pb and was excited to see it available on line — until i found out that shipping for ONE jar would be $10! you get free shipping if you order 12, apparently . . . i need to find some local pb-loving friends, asap! i wonder if any local stores carry it . . . i don’t remember seeing it @ whole foods, but maybe earth fare or harris teeter might?
Erin says
That reminded me of a recent outburst I had while falling asleep, thinking a huge spider was on my head. So funny! I also almost sometimes fall off my bed right before I fall asleep!
I had never heard of Earthfare before reading your blog. Does it have sit down meals and food shopping? I am so jealous all the time of your meals. There aren’t any awesome stores like that in the part of NJ I live in.
Good Luck on the test. I <3 4 day weeks!
suzanne says
Good luck on the test!! My son does the same thing, one morning i went to wake him and he started counting down and then said blast off 🙂 The things he’s said are hillarious!!

LOL… my boyfriend talks and sometimes yells in his sleep. Very disconcerting when we first started sleeping together but now I just yell back at him and he shuts up and lays back down.
HangryPants says
Good luck on the test, Kath.
Biz says
Good luck on your test – I am sure you will do great as usual!
Melissa S. says
Heheheh…that story totally made me laugh out loud. My best friend does the same thing too, but she also cackles in here sleep. eep!
jenner says
haha that is so funny! i think i ALMOST enjoy your anecdotes and commentary more than your awesome photos and ideas for meals.
magpie says
Hahaha I do the same thing to Bobby – I tend to wake up still dreaming and I just say stuff that would make sense in the dream but have no context in real life.
I love rooibos tea! There’s this awesome flavor called Toffee Rooibos made by the Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf. I bought two containers of it last time I was in SF.
Good luck with the test~!
Grounded Fitness says

Hilarious story Kath! Hope you have a great day! 🙂
Jenn (eating bender) says
Awesome story!! I am totally guilty of talking in my sleep, too. I used to wake my entire family up in high school – sometimes I’d even be crying or laughing so hard that I wake myself up!
Oats look yummy, as always. Good luck on your test! Hurray for a four-day week!
andrunwithit says
aww, that was a cute story… hahaha =)
Jess says
Like many others, I do the same thing. I have some funny stories from college – probably the best was when I was studying abroad and had recently come back from a trip to France…I was woken up one morning and told that I had been mumbling…in French!
Kath says
mg ,
I haven’t heard of it. But I think my conclusion would be that I’d rather enjoy those fruits fresh and get to chew them. But I would like to see what it’s like someday.
sarah ,
$10!? Sheesh. I would love another jar, but I might have to wait some time and let the craving develop to pay that much 🙁 Lemme know if you find it in stores.
Erin ,
EarthFare is an organic/healthy market just like Whole Foods. They also have a cafe with a huge salad bar, sandwiches, deli case, and grill. They are expanding so maybe someday you guys can experience it.
Kath
Teddy says
HAHAH that’s great story 🙂
yadi says
OMG i laughed so hard… Pet the animal? So funny! I speak fluent Spanish and in college my roommate would wake up to full conversations in Spanish. Now, I just grind my teeth a lot.
madison (follow my weigh) says
hahaha! that made me smile this monday morning/afternoon =)
hk says
Hahah too funny! Ace the test!!
Have a great day 🙂
Candy says
Cute story! That tea sounds great.
Angela says
Regarding Mona Vie- I tried it (I received it as a gift) and I really liked it. The only problem is the price- I think it is around $45 for 1 bottles. You take two ‘shot’ glasses of the juice a day- one in the AM and one in the PM. I didn’t notice an improvement in my health, but I’m sure the health benefits are there. I would certainly buy it again if I had extra money floating around, but for now it is just too much money to justify spending (we are about to buy our first house!).
Here is the websiteL: http://www.monahealth.com/

hahahah! That’s very funny! Yay for fall break 🙂

My husband informed me that I plaintively cry out for “ice-cream…” in my sleep. It’s happened a number of times.
lauren says
this made me laugh so hard! I do the exact same thing! my college roommate used to tell me about weird conversations I had with her in my sleep!
Marianne says
I love that tea – I’m not a big tea person, but that one is spectacular. I’ve had it around for a few years now.
emily says
Oh my goodness – I needed that laugh.
Cat says
Hilarious!!! My sister tends to mumble in her sleep whenever she falls asleep in the car or in front of the TV and is sleeping lightly.
Heather Sepulveda says
What kind of bread was that with your cheese today?
It looks alot like Seduction Bread from the Whole Foods Bakery. Seduction Bread is a little sweet and looks like it has all of that same crunchy goodness!
Kath says
Heather Sepulveda,
Great Harvest Bakery High Five.
