I’m not doing too well today 🙁 Too much wine yesterday has made me feel headachy and sluggish. I don’t have the drive or energy to do anything! Luckily, I’ve still managed to get a lot done, but without enthusiasm.
Mid-morning I attempted to correct whatever was off balance in my body with a wheatgrass pack from the HLS swag bag. I had it over ice in my Amazing Grass shaker.
It tasted bad. But it felt good. Serving it over ice helps.
Then I did the second trick in the toolbox: yoga. I had plans to go to a class today, but I just wasn’t feeling it, so I played with Dave Farmar instead. I did this 60 minute flow class and WOW – hardest class I’ve done in a month! Dave is awesome and definitely knows how to make you sweat.
Do you want to know how focused I was? I watched the mailman walk up and down our street in-between the ups and downs of Warrior I and chataranga. I knew it was mail time! I thought I saw him leaving our porch and resisted the urge to go check the mailbox (I LOVE MAIL, bills and all) to keep my focus on yoga (clearly I was so very focused 😉 ). I was proud of myself for staying put on my mat.
After my class was over, I skipped to the mailbox only to notice he SKIPPED OUR HOUSE! My outgoing mail was still in there and there was nothing new to tear into 🙁
I am sure there is some kind of lesson in this scenario for me about focus and meditation – someone help me out!

I felt better after yoga, squeezed in some more work, and then had a late lunch with Matt.
He hard-boiled two eggs to turn into a veggie-heavy egg salad.
Which we served on crispy toast. I believe this had carrots, green pepper, egg, pickle, mustard, mayo and paprika.
I was in charge of kale chips.
A means to serve ketchup, these were some of the most perfectly crisped kale chips I’ve had!
And lastly, this nectarine was like candy.
Hopefully all those nutrients will make me feel better!
Hey look – I’m a MamaPea!
We have a meeting for Great Harvest this afternoon and I must go put on some nice clothes and a smile!
Heather says
oh no! I love mail too. My dad always said I should have gone to work for the post office. I can’t believe they skipped your house!
Paula says
Your egg salad looks wonderful! That wonderful meal will have you feeling better in no time! 🙂
Madeline - Greens and Jeans says
Growing up I would get SO mad if anyone else in the family grabbed the mail before I did!
Beth @ Beth's Journey to Thin says
Good for you for powering through even though you weren’t feeling it! I also LOVE mail, bills and all.
Heather (Heather's Dish) says
way to push through kath! i did the same thing last week, and work was rough the next day with a wine headache…
Freya (Brit Chick Runs) says
Ooh I tried that Amazing Grass flavour too – I actually had t throw mine, I hated it! But I didn’t do it over ice, so maybe that will work 🙂
I hope you feel bettr this evening – dark green veggies are super, they’re bound to do the trick!
Tina says
I can’t do Amazing Grass. I have tried numerous times in various ways. It’s so odd because I love green smoothies done myself.
I would have had a hard time not going to check the meal. That does show focus! LOL
Christine says
Looking at last night’s post I was a little surprised that you had such a chipper breakfast posting. Sorry to hear yesterday caught up with you. 🙁
BUT it brings me to a question I have always wondered – now I can ask a real R.D.!
If I say, overindulge early in the day (BRUNCH being the perfect example of this) and I know I am at or over my calorie intake, but UNDER in my nutrient intake what should I do? Do I go home and eat a salad to get the good stuff in my system? Or do I hold out to the next day so I can digest and let my liver do it’s job?
Kath says
My response would be to listen to your hunger cues. If you have a huge brunch, I’m guessing by dinnertime you’ll probably just want something light. A salad with a slice of bread or a bowl of soup would make a nice light dinner and keep your body humming. If you absolutely can’t think about food for the rest of the day because you’re so full, then I don’t think it’s a big deal to miss out on nutrients ONCE. Just eat normally again the next day.
Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) says
Oh no, sorry you feel rotten. Nothing worse when you have a meeting! Lunch looks delicious. I hope you feel better!

Rachael @ Mrs-Adventure says
Guessing I need to try those kale chips asap!
Foodie (Fab and Delicious Food) says
That egg salad looks delish! Still have to try kale chips!
Hope your meeting goes well!
Mama Pea says
Congratulations on your new arrivals! Boy, they grow up fast.
Amanda (Two Boos Who Eat) says
My husband teases me about my love for the mail all the time. I just have a compulsion with it. Haha. Especially when fun product samples are forthcoming!
Kris says
Hope you feel better! I loved seeing your pics yesterday, but as much as I would love to go wine tasting, know I couldn’t because too much wine means instant migraine for me.
Susan Mc says
We had kale chips last night and I didn’t cook them long enough, not crispy at all 🙁
My little monkey said “Mom, this is =just kale=” He barely touched it… and usually scarfs them! They are SO good though, will have to make again this week to make up for it!
BTW… your comment section is getting nice and long lately (well, usually “nice” but us long-time readers look past all that!) I think we are all really loving that you have time to blog such lovely posts!! 🙂
Kath says
🙂
lynn (The Actors Diet) says
i’ve got that same packet of wheatgrass waiting for me…have been putting it off b/c i am afraid of the taste and now…hmm….i may give it away!
Stacey @ The Habit of Healthy says
I love mail too, even the junk. There is something exciting and anticipatory about opening an envelope! Hope the meeting goes well and that you feel better soon.
Holly @ couchpotatoathlete says
I hope you feel better, and good luck at your GH meeting today!
I usually make egg salad with just eggs, mustard, salt and pepper, but it looks good all loaded with veggies.
Jessica @ How Sweet says
Good luck at your meeting Kath!
Bri says
Oh no Kath! You are making me nervous for work next Tuesday after a day of wine tasting in Sonoma for Labor Day Monday. Hope you’re feeling better for your meeting and that egg salad looks absolutely delicious!
Kristy@ KristyRuns.com says
Loading up on fruits and veggies is the only way to go when feeling crummy. Green mosters are my favorite remedy! 🙂
Paige @Running Around Normal says
Glad the yoga helped out:)
I love paprika on my eggs! It’s a great combination.
Anna @ Newlywed, Newly Veg says
Haha, I love mail too! If I see the mailman come, I stop WHATEVER I’m doing and go get it– so I’m very impressed!
Melissa @ HerGreenLIfe says
The kale chips rock, but I still haven’t worked up the courage to try kale in a smoothie 🙂
I like getting “real” mail, but hate the junk that seems to be piling up lately. I’m contemplating paying for one of those services that goes through and removes your name and address from the mailing lists — so much wasted paper!
Stacey says
I love checking the mail too! It’s this weird thing. Whenever I get home, I always ask Jason “did we get any mail today?” Recently, he’s just been telling me instead of waiting for me to ask 😀
Ughhh, I know what you mean about sluggish, no-energy-to-do-anything feelings..I’m totally feeling that way too, but I don’t really know why. Maybe it’s the Monday blues?? 😉 Good luck at the meeting, and remember: SMILE like this –> 😀 haha
Sarah (Running to Slow Things Down) says
Feel better, Kath!! I was feeling a little off today too, but have no good excuses.
Amber K says
I LOVE getting the mail. What a bummer that you got skipped!

i’ve been craving kale chips for a couple weeks now… really need some asap!
Erika @ Food, Fitness, & Fun says
I have never tried wheatgrass but I have heard it was gross. However, your lunch looked absolutely delicious and healthy. Hope you feel better soon!

Lunch and yoga will hopefully getting you moving in the right direction.
Ashley M. [at] (never home)maker says
Feel better, Kath! I totally know how those days go. Love the look of your egg salad. I need to eat more egg salad — what a great way to get protein!
Jasmine @ Eat Move Write says
I adore any combination of hard boiled eggs and bread. Your nectarine inspired me to have a peach. Love them!
Marci says
Love Dave Farmar! I am similar to you in that I moved (2 years ago!) and struggled to find a yoga studio that Ioved as much as my other one. But Dave Farmar is the same style, minus some music and touching your feet. I also like how he talks about skiing and seeing mountains in his podcasts since he’s in Denver. None of that in Texas!
Caitlin (EatFeats) says
Good luck at your meeting and with your recovery! I’ve yet to stay focused during ANY yoga class, no matter where it is, whom I am with, or why I am doing it.
JL Goes Vegan says
Hope you’re feeling better by now!
Margaret says
Hope you are feeling much better by now.My daughter was the only one in her group of friends who never felt “YUK” after a big night out….she always drank plenty of water before bed and during the night if she woke up…..it works !

Sorry you aren’t feeling too hot. I’m sure the nutrients will do wonders!

I’m a big fan of yoga + wheatgrass when I’m not feeling too hot! Hopefully things will go well with Great Harvest!
Sarah says
To the oatmeal queen,
Thought you would appreciate…
http://www.cereal.com/videos/oatmeal-coffee-pot.htm
Kath says
Ahhhhh I knew we’d have to see him chew it at the end!!
I really don’t know if I’d be brave enough to eat out of a hotel oatmeal pot. I guess you could wash the carafe extra well, but something about a faint coffee flavor in it scares me. And I would never want a teabag’s flavor in my oats!! But he sure is smart!
Chelsea @ Strawberry Sweat says
Oh sad! I love the mail too. It always makes me a little disappointed when I don’t get any mail on any given day.
Yoga is awesome for hangovers. I’ve been known to yoga it up while drinking, before going to bed, and getting up in the morning!
Jane says
Your Kale chips look great! My kale chips never come out green, they are always burned. I put the temp at 375, what am I doing wrong?
Kath says
I would lower your temp..

I love, love your blog. It is addicting and my favorite one. I wish I could hit the lottery and pay you good money to be my personal chef, food advisor, and butt kicker! You go Kath! You have a great thing here. Wish you and Matt much success with your GH adventure.
Kath says

Kombucha is my go-to hangover/feeling crummy pick me up. I know the jury is still out on the million health claims made for it…but it helps for me! Amazing Grass is great too though…and suprisingly WHEAT grass is gluten free!
Courtney @ Bread & Bokeh says
Yummm, that egg salad looks so good!!! I have been looking for a way to spice up my recipe, so I am going to have to try your additions!

Warrior three is my favorite! Sometimes I have trouble with balance poses. I found Leeann Carey has a free yoga video that talks about a Sitting Bone/Heel Connection in standing poses that is really helpful.
