Say farewell to Allie! Her summer at GH Cville has come to an end. We will miss her daily laugh (and daily oranges!)
Hannah will miss her most of all (PS. we didn’t plan the shirts!!)
Matt went home to chill this afternoon, and as part of our husband + wife contract, whoever isn’t at the bakery makes dinner. Most nights that is me, or we are both there, so it was a treat for me to close and come home to a Man Meal!
Not only did I walk in the door to a delicious meal – but my blog setting was all set up for me too – camera and all! So considerate of him : )
I picked up some chicken from the Organic Butcher the other day along with some Virginia potatoes and green beans. Along with the home-brewed beer, this meal was 100% local!
My half pint turned into a quarter pint when I tipped it 🙁
LOVE the rosemary olive oil chicken from the OB!
Beans cooked with some vinegar, garlic, salt and peppa
And fire-roasted taters [precious]
After dinner we walked to the UVA grounds for an A Capella Rotunda Sing!
We felt like we blended right in. Although I’m not sure Karen did (no offense Karen!)
We enjoyed hearing a wide variety of performances – I love music!
I get chills thinking about Thomas Jefferson founding this university so very long ago. I loved hearing the alma mater on the steps!
The real reason we went to the event was to see our employee Jenny and her group, the Virginia Belles!
Jenny actually had a SOLO, which made it extra exciting for us. And the song she sand – Lady Gaga’s “You and I,” which I absolutely loooooooooooove!
Sing it Jenny!! She was amazing, especially how they put “Virginia” in the song : )
Lastly, I really loved this crazy group of boys!!
Long walk home. Time for bed!
Alexa @ SimpleEats says
This looks like such a fun night! I love how they are all standing on the steps for the performance. I love acapella groups!

The live singing sounds so fantastic! Looks like a great time.
Funny, Dustin’s and my marital contract specifies that he never cooks. Ever. Whether I’m home or not, his kitchen privileges are minimal, lol. This was my stipulation, by the way. Haha

How sweet of your hubby to make such a yummy looking meal– glad you had a good evening! 🙂

A cappella groups are the best. I never missed a concert in college, it was one of my favorite performing groups. I’m so impressed by people who can do that. My voice is not even remotely good enough!

I wish I would have gone to UVA. It seems like such an amazing school and I love everything about the history of the whole area. After I visited Monticello last year I knew I wanted to someday live in that area of Virginia. I love it when you post about UVA and the Cville area!

Also – that was so sweet of Matt. My boyfriend did the same thing for me last night – it seems like such a little thing but is actually SUCH a huge help.
I’m so jealous you have UVA so close to you! It must be so fun to “go back to college” every once in a while 🙂

Sure!

How lucky are you to come home to a home cooked meal! 🙂

KathEats says
Well it was pretty crowded 🙂
Katie G. says
it is so awesome that you can walk to enjoy something like that! i am slightly jealous
Katie @ Peace Love and Oats says
I know this is kind of a stupid question, but I’m very new to cooking. For your potatoes, how do you cook them? Do you bake them a bit first and then chop them up and roast them? Also, I love the UVA campus! I was there a few years ago when I went to Foxfield with my sorority sister who transferred to Maryland. Hope you enjoyed the beautiful scenery!
KathEats says
I really don’t know the details – Matt cooked them.
Ashley says
Those taters look EXcellent!!!!!!!!!
Kristine says
Yay for a cappella! Your post reminds me of concerts featuring the Generals, Delilahs and Androgyny on Chambers lawn….such fond memories! 🙂
Sarah says
That looks like such a fun night out!
Jane and Mike says
Your food looks great but if you don’t have time and still want to eat “healthy” try the nutrition bars at enutritionbars.com. They’re all natural, most are organic, raw, vegan and really only the best ones you can find. They are discounted prices, too.
Suzanne @ continuing my education says
Aw, so fun, I miss UVA!!!
Hilary says
Good luck Allie!
Allison says
Sounds like a fun summer night! I’ve never heard that song before but just listened to it and am a fan 🙂 I went to visit one of my girlfriends at UVA a couple of years ago and attended a holiday acapella show and all of the groups were great- so much talent!
Minnooo says
I can’t wait until I start getting manmeals like that…Frozen Pizza does not a man-meal make. 🙂
Lara @ TresLaLa says
I am so jealous. Honestly, seeing these pictures of the Rotunda Sing literally brought tears to my eyes. I graduated 10 years ago, so you’d think I’d get over it somehow… When I was at UVA, my fave acapella group (The Virginia Gentlemen) would sing “Meet Virginia”. Love. And, the last time I was at the Rotunda, it was for a group shot at our wedding, then pics walking down the lawn with my new hubby…
