I’ve been wanting to buy flowers for my home for a while, but every time I went to a flower market they were either too drab or too expensive.
Until I found these beautiful LOCAL tulips for $6.99 today!! They brightened up my cloudy day for sure.
Do you know what else is simply irresistible? Whole Foods salad bar while grocery shopping right before lunch.
I’ll just let you drool on the plantains (!!) and sweet potatoes and wheatberry salad and bleu cheese and curried cauliflower I packed into my box
On the side: an end piece of Karen’s No Knead Bread
Still chugging that lemon water. Hopefully I have lettuce breath now!
I’m going to yoga in a bit – inbetween Great Harvest conference calls and basket and tissue paper research for our giveaway baskets! Also, we’re now on Twitter!!

If I do buy fresh flowers I usually stick with the potted variety so that they last a bit longer.
I LOVE having fresh flowers in the house but I agree that they are so price-y. My husband never buys me flowers for any occasion because he knows I think it’s too expensive for something so fleeting.
Laura says
My husband doesn’t buy me flowers for the same reason! haha To congratulate me on a recent accomplishment he picked up a potted fern so it would last longer than a week. So romantic. 😉
Gavi @ GaviGetsGoing! says
My boyfriend and I try to buy fresh flowers at least once a week for our apartment. They really brighten up any room and make us feel so happy every time we see them! Those tulips are so beautiful. And man–that Whole Foods salad looks awesome! I just introduced my best friend to the WF hot bar and she’s been back to visit four times in the last week. Am I an enabler? 🙂 Enjoy your day!

So far, I’ve managed to limit my WF salad bar consumption to when I’m traveling, though I have been tempted while shopping at my local store.
Wow, local tulips this time of year — impressive. We usually only have fresh flowers when we get them from our yard/garden during the warmer months. During the winter, we brighten things up with homemade candles 🙂

Lovely flowers! I rarely buy them at the store too because of price reasons. But in December I bought some twigs and red berries for my kitchen table. Now that they’ve dried out, they still look great and I don’t have to water them. Win win : )
JenATX says
twigs & red berries- great idea!
Kath, you’re hot salad bar portion packs a lot of punch. i’m always afraid I won’t like the mix of flavors if I put in too many things. You are correct though, nothing better than grocery shopping & getting to visit the bar mmmmmm

Yum! The best things can be found at the WF salad bar…I usually will meander through there and find things I like, and then go buy the ingredients to make them! (usually I’m not hungry when I go there so I wouldn’t want to eat it just then)

Pretty tulips!
If you poke a small hole with a pin in the stem very close to the flower end (not all the way through), they will last A LOT longer … it probably draws more water into the stem.

Now I miss Whole Foods even more. Sigh!
Allie says
Your tulips and lunch look breathtaking 🙂

Kath,
I’m not sure if you saw this new nutrition study that says, basically, NOT to eat a large breakfast to maintain your weight – if you have a chance to read it and offer your take I would be very interested in what you have to say:
http://www.nytimes.com/2011/02/01/health/research/01diet.html?ref=health
KathEats says
Hmmph. Well I don’t know all the details of the study from that article, but I’d like to know what those subjects were eating. I think the point of the article wasn’t that eating a big breakfast is going to hurt anything, but that it’s not going to knock off your hunger for the rest of the day either. I know personally I would be starting 2 hours after breakfast and I’d start snacking (rightly so) to ward off the hunger and I’d probably end up eating more calories then if I’d just had a bigger, more satisfying breakfast. My body likes meals about the same size 3 times per day. Snacking makes me overeat. However, if someone came to me and said they ate a small breakfast and it satisfied them, I agree with the prof. that I wouldn’t make them eat a big one just because.
So basically I think you have to figure out what works for your body!
Anna Lee says
Tulips continue to grow even after they’re cut. A penny in the water will make them last longer. They love the copper.
