We had a presidential day! Biking, sightseeing, talking, eating, caking!
After a short 2.5 hour drive, we arrived in Old Town Alexandria to Emily + Casey’s new house! Huey and Indy welcomed us right on in –
Emily was a doll of a host and had a delicious lunch for us when we arrived. Millet salad and roasted acorn squash! TOTALLY hit the spot in my starving stomach!
After settling in and digesting, we set out on our big afternoon adventure: biking the Mt Vernon Trail up to see the monuments.
Well whaddya know, a few miles later, we found AnneP!
The bike path was totally awesome – smooth, flat, waterfront. We need this in Cville!!
And of course the scenery was fabulous
Hilarious that the three states Matt and I have shared are all side by side: NC, VA, SC
Our new home state!
We walked [and walked and walked and walked]
We also just happened to stumble upon Allie! [I promise to do an official DC blog meet-up on my next visit!]
More walking [and walking and walking!] led us to Sweetgreen, an AnneP delicacy. It was very much like Charlotte’s TastyYo – the tart was actually tart and made with Stonyfield yogurt! I topped it with apple, granola and chocolate. I wish I could have put on my own toppings though! I’m so spoiled these days with self serve 🙂
Our walk and bike back from Sweetgreen to the Capital to the Wash Monument to the Jefferson, back over the bridge and home ~8 miles took a while. We were quite tired at the end! But it was so worth it because it was the most beautiful day. It even smelled good!
After a quick refresh, we headed back on the [Old] Town. Obviously such a charming place to be!
Choosing a dinner spot was a tough one, but we settled on Thai
I didn’t get the Larb duck, but my sister should come here and eat it!
We were famished by the time we sat down.
Matt and I shared a Mushroom and Lemongrass Soup that was amazing – SO lemony!
And some Crab + Shrimp Spring Rolls (one for me, two for him)
Back in our college days, we used to eat our weekday meals on campus but our meal plans did not include Friday night – Sunday lunch. Many, many times we went to this Thai restaurant near campus and got the green curry. It’s my favorite!
So tonight, although I was tempted by red and yellow and peanut dishes, green it was.
It was everything I had hoped for!! Perfect dish. Tofu and eggplant and bok choy. I made a serious dent hole in this dish and passed the last bit to Matt.
He was pretty disappointed in his crispy duck. Should gotten curry!
Did you hear we’re going to a wedding tomorrow!? We had a dress rehearsal tonight!!!
For a YEAR now Emily has told me that she has some of her wedding cake in her freezer. She’s transported it from Ohio to Charlotte to Alexandria. Have I told you how much I LIVE for wedding cake!? Tonight was the night. And it was everything I’d hoped for.
Buttercream amazingness
Blogging next to other bloggers is always so much fun!

What a fabulous day!! I was just in washington, but my picture at the memorial was with Texas 🙂 If you had to only go by one museum I would recommend the Newseum..it is way cool!!! Happy walking!!
maria @ Chasing the Now says
I’m jealous! Man, this post makes me want to go back to D.C. ASAP. We didn’t get to stop at almost any monuments because we spent so much time in museums on our honeymoon. We are planning a trip back someday, though.
Mary @ Bites and Bliss says
I love DC! And yeah..there’s soooo much walking involved. Maybe even more than in NYC. It’s way better than driving through that city- even the GPS gets lost!
It’s funny you ran into so many other bloggers out of nowhere 😛 Glad your having fun with everyone else!
Ashley says
Yaaay. 2.5hrs is such a manageable drive to visit friends!! Looks like so much fun. I’m loving being in such a bike-able city now. All of the food sounds fabulous. Enjoy the wedding and the rest of your weekend.

have a fun weekend in DC! so funny about her travelling with her wedding cake, i can’t believe she hasn’t eaten more of it!
Allie says
i think it’s so funny that you guys ended the day with that wedding cake! that is funny that your states are next to each other (everyone looks for their states, right?). something i didn’t know and looked up after the first time i visited- the states are arranged in the order that they ratified the constitution, starting from the middle and going out on each side.
Kacie (Nonexistent Colors) says
