Did you know for years I wanted to be a meteorologist!? I am pretty good at sensing the weather! [I think I have also mentioned on KERF that I used to have a weather radio…..severe thunderstorm alert – more like NERD alert!] Shoulda been a meteorologist.
I headed out on my bike to the bakery, where I discovered the oven booming in the corner! Honestly, I wanted to leave the bakery. It is SUCH a mess and there is SO much to do it immediately stressed me out!!!
Then I biked down to Riverview Park where I met new-friend & KERF reader Rachel! Justtttt before 3:30 I heard thunder. I looked for shelter – none. I was miles from home with no where to hide! [There was a porta-john but I did not consider that even an option…]
Rachel arrived just in time to whisk me away in her van to a coffee shop, where we chatted over Perrier and tea.
When the rain passed, we went back to Riverview and braved the walk – and ended up SOAKED!
It was fun though, and nice to meet you Rachel! The only thing that didn’t like the rain was my cell phone, which seems OK.
I biked from Riverview to THE CLINIC – spine care for all your needs! Obviously I was there to pop in and say hi to Faith and Dr. Huffman himself!
Then I went across the street to Cville Market for some veggies – they have amazing prices! I got bananas for $.29/lb and a few other necessities. Veggies in the bike bag:
Faith and I walked the 1.5 miles home together (I walked my bike) and just as the sun was coming back out. It was so much more fun than biking alone!
I biked the final mile myself and was famished to start on dinner.
Matt rolled in just as I did, but he had showering to do, so I turned on the grill.
Look who shoulda been a grillmaster!
That beer in hand – that was provided by my beer master. Heavy Seeds Holy Sheet!
Deeeeelicious
I also shoulda been a lifeguard (oh wait, I was one for a summer!!) because I had to rescue a bug from my beer!
Dinner was grilled asparagus, pok choy (farmer’s market’s words – not mine!), and Twin Oaks Pesto Tofu. Veggies were seasoned with olive oil, salt, pepper and smoked paprika – what else!?
Plus tortillas from our freezer
Turned into quite the taco!!
Topped with some teriyaki sauce and sriracha
Love asparagus!
Two nights in a row – we were literally TOSSED from the porch by furious winds and torrential rains!! Weather here changes faster than Mary Poppins! Shoulda been an umbrella..
I’ve got a handful of phone interviews for the bakery taking up my whole morning tomorrow. It’s going to be a phone-heavy day!
Nite!
Cait @ Beyond Bananas says
Love that asparagus!
When I was in 6th grade, we played a career game in guidance to help show us what “real life” was like. The job that I was assigned was a meteorologist! I was convinced that was what I was destine to be since it was the profession I picked out of a hat in that little game!
Holly @ The Runny Egg says
I never wanted to be one, but I took a meteorology class in college. It was the most boring semester!
That grilled asparagus looks incredible!
Amy says
Wow, bananas at 29 cents/lb is a steal around here 🙂
You may have “shoulda been” all or some of the things listed, but I think you’ve found your true calling with this blog and the bakery!

I’m a meteorologist (my company actually forecasts for the highway dept I-95 and I-85 corridor in VA). I always think of your blog when I forecast snow for them! Its always nice to know that others are interested in meteorology, we get a bum rap sometimes.
Molly says
At least with being a meteorologist it’s acceptable for your work to be wrong. Nice bicep shot while drinking a craft beer! ha

My younger brother is working on his masters in meteorology right now. I call him ALL the time with questions about my forecast even though I’m in Texas and he’s in Florida. It’s great having a meteorologist in the family!
Angel7 says
I love asparagus, too! We just had it last week with olive oil, salt and pepper, and parmesan cheese on it.
The rain is good for the plants, grass, etc. However,I wish it would span itself out, so we do not have torrential downpours for a few days, and then drought-like weather.

Tine says
Mmm, roasted green asparagus! Love it!
Kate (What Kate is Cooking) says
My family has a strange weather obsession. We always told my grandfather he should have been a meteorologist- he used to stand in front of the window and rub his hands when it was raining. He loved the rain 🙂
Hannah says
Love the huge pile of asparagus! You woulda been wasted as a metereologist 😀
Nicci (NiftyEats) says

Definitely getting to be a grillmaster! That asparagus looks perfect!

I am thoroughly enjoying our first batches of asparagas this week too. Every spring I marvel at how satisifying simple grilled asparagas is and proclaim that it has got to be my favorite veggie ever. Yours looks perfectly crispy – good work! I prepare it as do you, only I add some some freshly minced garlic during the last few minutes of grilling/roasting.
Enough rain already…here’s hoping that we all get some much needed sunshine this weekend!
Errign says
Hey Kath – any veggie grilling tips? I never know how high heat/how long to cook ’em.. ( I know this seems like it should be self-explanatory, but my grilled veggies are always blah – maybe I don’t cook them long enough?)
KathEats says
I like high heat! Sounds like yours aren’t getting cooked enough. Olive oil and salt also make a huge diff.
Lori says
Oh my goodness! .29$ a lb for bananas???? We r paying 12.98$ a kg here in Oz.

Wow, the weather has been so crazy lately! We are supposed to get really bad storms today which I am not looking forward to! 🙁 I love grilling veggies and food. Everything on the grill tastes so much better for some reason. The grill marks perhaps? 🙂
Melissa says
Glad you survived all that wacky weather yesterday! Sounds like you got home for the worst of it. I’m impressed that you even attempted grilling given the red that painted the radar yesterday! Brave lady! 🙂
Tasha @ Voracious says
What crazy weather! I’m glad you were okay. I miss rain, we only get about 4 or 5 downpours a year. It can actually make you miss thunder and lightning! Your food looks incredible, I bet those veggies were so tasty. I think the grill makes any meal taste like summer. Lovely photos!
M. Carter @ the Movies says
The truth? My straightening iron commands the weather. Seriously. Every time I straighten my hair, it rains. EVERY SINGLE TIME. This has been happening for years. It’s magic or voodoo or juju-magumbo or something.
Bonnie @ BonnieAppetite says
Does VA receive much in the way of tornadoes? Here in Oklahoma of course it’s nothing outside the ordinary. In fact, one of our favorite pasttimes is to go outside and look for the wall cloud!
