Today’s walk into work was a hot one – but also very enjoyable!
It’s so very cool in the shade
But scorching in the sun!
Many of you asked about reading + walking. You just have to hold the magazine so you can see the sidewalk in your side vision – and watch out for tree branches! Just look up every now and then. I don’t think I could read a novel and walk, but magazines’ blurb styles are no big deal.
We have HAMBURGER BUNS!!! Just in time for the 4th! Best buns ever.
[I guess my posts are all a little dirty today according to some of your breakfast post comments! First that, then buns!]
Matt’s taking some time off today, so Karen and I have been working the counter!
She loves to make friends with the customers ; ) She also is feeling SO much better and went to the GYM today! Go Karen!
Our ovens are so hot in the morning that even though the 40 pan oven has been off for 3 hours, it was still plenty hot enough to warm up our leftover pizza!
I’ve been looking forward to this lunch all day! And a bonus: I didn’t have to carry my lunch on my back in to work : ) I could eat sandwiches every day and avoid having to pack a lunch, but I really like to have a salad at lunch, so it’s generally been worth the trouble.
The pizza was just as good a day later!
Greens on the side
And a small cube of Cinnamon Raisin Bread Pudding bar to cleanse my pizza palate!
[For those of you who liked Saturday’s Five Bamboo red dress, they offered a coupon code for 15% off from now till the end of July – enter katheats15 at checkout!]
Today has been awesomely busy – fun times!!
Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga says
I have a giveaway going on for a FREE FIVE BAMBOO TRAVEL SKIRT! Sorry to shout, but I am just really excited about the giveaway b/c I love their stuff! 🙂
And reading magazines and walking at the same time…you are the ultimate multitasker and never waste a single moment, Kath. I love that about you!
Cait's Plate says
YAY!! GO KAREN!! I’m so glad she’s feeling better – I think about her often and hope for her health and wellness!
Dare I say that leftover pizza looks even better than it did right out of the oven?? I’m a sucker for leftover pizza (as long as it’s reheated!)
Loved the walking+reading tips! Haha. I’ll have to put them to use.
Also – I desperately want those buns for the fourth! They look so fluffy and doughy and delicious!!
Katelyn @ Chef Katelyn says
That’s how it is here, too. So hot in the sun, but beauuuutiful and cool in the shade 🙂 I walk all the time while reading, it looks so dangerous but it’s a great way to get exercise, sun, and get your reading done!
Jenny @ Fitness Health and Food says
ohh my – the cinnamon buns, hambruger buns, and pizza all look SOO YUMMY! 🙂
it’s my little bit of food porn for the the day! So glad you had a good walk, stay cool! 🙂
Courtney @ The Granola Chronicles says
I’m so happy to hear that Karen is feeling better – wonderful news!
Anna @ Newlywed, Newly Veg says
We’ve always lived in a busy-streeted neighborhood, so I’ve never tried the magazine reading thing. BUT– in August, we’re moving to a quieter street, so I’m excited to read + walk!
Karen says
Go Karen, indeed…so happy for her!
I’m very tempted to buy that dress…
Have a nice afternoon, Kath!
Anna Crouch says
oh wow, those hamburger buns look SO good!! And hearty!!! Yum!
Cait @ UrbanFencepost says
Wow, look at all the seeds on those buns! I bet they add a lot of nice texture. I don’t believe I’ll be trying the walking and reading thing anytime soon, I’m such a klutz!
Alex says
If I hadn’t figured out how to read and walk at the same time I would have done a LOT worse in school …
Freya (Brit Chick Runs) says
Yay for Karen!
Haha, I’m glad you mentioned the read-walking – I do it ALL the time, but I do read novels doing it! 90% of my novel reading is done on walks :p
Gina @ Running to the Kitchen says
So good to hear Karen is doing better. Is she technically in remission? If you don’t mind me asking. Cinnamon raisin bread pudding sounds delicious. Close to a cinnamon bun?
KathEats says
We hope so!
The Healthy Hipster says
Why is it that pizza actually seems to improve the day after? Saucey/Mooshy/Crispy Delicccciousness! 🙂
Hope says
Glad to hear that Karen is doing better! 🙂 Those hamburger buns look so good! I love leftover pizza. It always seems to taste better the next day 😉
Johanna B says
I can read anything on my stationary bike. I can read magazines on the treadmill but I can’t read and walk (chew gum & walk – ok). I like to think while I walk. I find it’s a great time to be introspective and I feel I’d miss so much that is going on around me. That’s just me, though.
Mary @ Bites and Bliss says
The shade makes SUCH a difference when walking/running outside. I’ve been trying to find the shadiest paths to take during my morning runs. I’ll usually run through the sun and walk through the shade to soak up the coolness!
Susan (Oliepants) says
I have to say that I really do get happy when I see pictures of Karen. She looks great and I’m glad she is feeling good! 🙂
I could always go for pizza for lunch. I’m a cold pizza fan actually.
Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife says
Oh love the leftover pizza for lunch idea. YUMM. Nothing better than a great dinner for next day’s midmeal!!
Christine (The Raw Project) says
Wow, the leftover pizza looks just as good, great lunch.
Baking 'n' Books says
Hmm…sounds like the Bakery needs to sell salads then – it’ll be easier for you and more options for customers!
That is hilarious about the reading! I admit I do that too…but usually if it’s only a short distance! Not 3 miles. I guess as long as you stay on your side of the sidewalk, it’s up to passerbys to avoid you 🙂
Andrea @ The Skinny Chronicles says
Bread pudding is my fave and yours looks fabulous.
I cracked up when I realized you read and walk…why am I not surprised? Maybe try audiobooks while walking?
Errign says
Glad to see Karen up and about 🙂 Good to hear she’s feeling better!
I’m going to try walking and reading Shanghai girls tomorrow, after my run around Beaver Lake in Asheville! Still lots of exploring to do here 🙂
Nikki T says
Yay! I just ordered the 5Bamboo Artemis dress in Papaya!! Looks SO comfy, I can’t wait to try it!!
Thx for the discount code 🙂
Sarah@The Flying ONION says
I love that you can walk and read all at the same time. I would love to try this, but I find myself tripping over my own feet WITHOUT the magazine, never mind with. Sad but true..ha!
Those hamburger buns make me excited for the 4th! 😀
Foodie says
That pizza looks so, so good!
Ashley @ Coffee Cake and Cardio says
The Virginia sun is totally hot today but it is so beautiful outside. There’s an awesome breeze here in DC! Yay for GH Hamburger Buns!!
Simply Life says
that is definitely a lunch to look forward to!
Nikki says
Sweet geez, Kath. You had to mention the 15% off. Now I’ve gone and opened their website, revealing TONS of awesomeness. 🙂
Melinda says
Thanks for the coupon code! I loved that dress and was hoping it’d go on sale soon!
Julie H. says
The 4th is so very close!!!! 🙂 And WAY TO GO KAREN!!!!!
Margo @ peanut butter trees says
Those DO look like the best hamburger buns ever! They look pretty dense though I imagine they’re somewhat light like typical hamburger buns. LOVE that dress on you!
The Teenage Taste says
Lunchtime salads are the best! I’ve had a salad for lunch everyday this week. So yummy and a great way to pack in my veggies too! 🙂
Kate (What Kate is Cooking) says
I used to walk to and from school when I was a kid, and everyone thought I was weird because I would read and walk at the same time! I don’t think I would do it now- I’m clumsy enough as it is. If I take my eyes off the sidewalk I WILL trip 🙂
Chad @ thebreakupnote says
… *stares at bread pudding* I covet!
J3nn (Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) says
So glad to hear Karen is feeling better!! That’s fantastic. 🙂
Simple solution: Add salads to your GH menu! 😀
Kelly @foodiefresh says
Sometimes, pizza is even better the next day!
Marilyn says
So happy to hear Karen’s doing well. I’m glad that you’ve continued to include her in your posts. I’m sure there are hundreds of readers sending their silent prayers out for her. She seems like a very neat lady. Classy. She reminds me of my best friend from high schools mom, and my own. There was something about them. Maybe it’s because they’ve lived through enough that they know what’s really important and aren’t afraid to share themselves with others.
KathEats says
🙂
Claire @ Live and Love to Eat says
I love when leftovers make lunch easy!
Colleen says
Thanks so much for the coupon! I just ordered the travel skirt. I can’t wait to get it!
Jil @ Big City, Lil' Kitchen says
Ohhh – those hamburger buns looks delicious.
Lauren @ What Lauren Likes says
Pizza leftovers make any day better in my opinion 🙂
Amy says
I read novels and walk all the time! I actually prefer them to magazines. It’s basically the same technique as reading a magazine–look up every now and then! 🙂
Abby White@Eat, Drink and Be Aware says
I loved the red dress and you looked so cute in it. I think I might have to get one myself. Thank you for sharing the savings. You are killing me with all of your bakery goods— first pizza and now hamburger buns and bread pudding!! I have always wanted to visit Charlottsville and will have to cross the country to come and visit your Great Harvest Bread! So happy for you and Matt. I know your bakery will be a great success.
lynn @ the actor's diet says
i’m a podcast addict when i walk!
Lauren says
I now read+ walk b/c of you and I read novels! =) Helps me plow through my massive book list faster– but I admit I have almost gotten run over or walked into parked trucks or poles many a time.
rumfunandsun says
I need to try this. I tend to get bored on walks might be my ADHD though!
Cait @ Beyond Bananas says
You guys have a new product..like every day! What an inspirational business..seriously! You rock!
I run into branches when I am just walking or running.. without a book/magazine. I don’t think reading while walking would work well for me!
Molly @ RDexposed says
I’d love to have those buns for grilling out! I seriously need to stop by our GH!
Lisa (bakebikeblog) says
DELISH!
kaila @ healthy helper! says
I loooove leftover pizza! Especially heated up on a real pizza stone….tastes just as good as fresh!
Katie @ Faith & Funfetti says
GO KAREN! Woo! So happy to hear that she was feeling well enough to work behind the counter AND go to the gym, that’s so awesome.
Sylvia @ My Attempt at Balanced Living says
I love reading and walking. It always makes me thing of Belle from Beauty in the Beast. “With her nose stuck in a book” 🙂
kristy @ kristyruns says
cinnamon raisin bread pudding? yes, please!!!
Hannah says
Hey Kath, when are you going to make a bread pudding with nut butters in it? Sunflower seed chocolate bread pudding!!
KathEats says
Ooooo!
Miranda @ Working Mom Works Out says
I CANNOT walk/ride in a car and read. It gives me a headache. Can you read in the car, too?
KathEats says
Yep
Lauren says
So glad Karen is feeling better.
Hillary says
Each time you post a picture of bread pudding, I drool a little.
kelly says
How does the dress fit? True to size of does it run small/larger than normal???? The clothes are super cute, going to use my coupon asap
KathEats says
Very true to size. Mine is a medium
Christine says
Please don’t fall! When I taught elementary I had little girl that was so engrossed in her book she totally ate it on the sidewalk! I think it’s funny- I never pictured myself reading BH&G until I started house hunting. I’m resisting the urge to subscribe to yet another magazine.
Emily @ Life on Food says
I am not sure about the reading and walking thing. I shouldn’t talk though, I frequently read and run on the treadmill. Doesn’t bother me a bit once I get into a rhythm. I am also so happy about the Five Bamboo coupon. I have been contemplating getting a dress for a while. On my way to their website now!
Katherine says
Gah! Please send me some bread. Please!
katie @KatieDid says
Could you use the sandwich veggies to make a salad out of? That would be pretty convenient to always have the choice of sandwich or salad!
KathEats says
I thought that initially, but it’s a lot more complicated than it sounds. Lettuce not cut, knives clean, and sandwich ingredients delegated for sandwiches. We MAY do salads in the future, so that would certainly help!
Kristin says
I walked a marathon with Team in Training. One of my teammates walked the whole 26.2 miles with a book. I think she had a couple actually!
KathEats says
That is awesome!!
Mary Legare Whaley says
Pizza is always better the day after. My brother is a pizza fanatic (recent college grad), and he always leaves his leftovers in the fridge. I jump on it when I can! Same with leftover lasagna. I may be weird, but for me, day-old Italian is thebomb.com.
Lee says
This makes me think of Sarah from The Shu Box who can read magazines while she runs on the treadmill. I’m jealous of both of your reading/walking/running abilities. I’m way too uncoordinated to do both!
krissy says
Yeah! Go Karen! What great news! Catching up on blogs and this is by far the best read yet 🙂
Monica says
I don’t think I could read a paperback or hardcover book while walking, but I do enjoy reading my Kindle when out for a walk. Reading and walking always feels so relaxing. 🙂
Pat says
I find it much easier to listen to an audiobook when walking than to try to read….
Jackie @ That Deep Breath says
I could never walk and read a magazine at the same time. Sometimes I can’t even walk. More props to you!
Angel7 says
Some pizzas are even better the next day.

Khushboo says
Wow Karen is such an inspiration! I am so happy for her that she could work out and is feeling better! Also on a different note, what is it about leftover pizza that makes it tastes better than fresh!!
Shelley says
I didn’t read the comments to this mornings post so totally didn’t get what you meant by the “dirty” thing, but just read the comments and still didn’t quite get it, then it just hit me, i must be a little slow going this morning!
Aine @ Something to Chew Over says
Yum I always think that pizza tastes better the next day! Those burger buns look delicious, perfect for a barbecue. I bet they’re good for sandwiches too 🙂
MelanieF says
Any chance you could fly some hamburger buns into Quebec? 🙂 Those look delish!!!
Angie @ Musings of a Violet Monkey says
Kudos for reading and walking. I haven’t tried, but I don’t think I am cut out for that. (I am as klutzy as they come!). Thanks for sharing your tips, though.
I’m glad to hear that Karen is doing well! 🙂
