It sure is a hot one outside today! I’m hiding out down in my office cave, but I should be up on my laptop on the porch!
First, can we talk about Survivor!? I’m assuming those of you who watch have caught up and heard the announcement about the new Second Chances season? SO PUMPED!! We just watched Heroes and Villains, which was a cast of all returning players, a few months ago, and it was epic. So of course the thought of all returning players deserving second chances has me excited for fall already. If you missed the annoucement, the public is voting 20 former players (who have not returned for an all-stars season) onto the show. There are 32 to choose from –
My list flips and flops around, but I think this is my dream team (in a loose order by preference):
Women
- Shirin
- Tasha
- Peih-Gee
- Kass
- Kelly San Juan Del Sur
- Ciera
- Kelly Borneo
- Teresa
- Natalie
- Sabrina
- Joe
- Max
- Spencer
- Keith
- Shane
- Stephen
- Jeremy
- Terry
- Vytas
- Mike
I can’t wait to see what happens!!
Mazen and I had delicious eggs, pecan swirl toast and local strawberries for breakfast today.
We went to ACAC this morning, although my only exercise was walking there and back to stretch the legs! M went to ABC conditioning and I took my laptop to get a few things done. M walked on all the walls on the way home – his new thing.
For lunch I had leftover kale salad from the weekend with some black beans and a mini quesadilla on a corn tortilla. That kale salad – must replicate!
And here was last night’s dinner – a homemade black bean burger made with panko on a cheddar garlic roll with sweet potatoes and kale salad. Tasted so great after all that soccer!
Have a great afternoon!

That black bean burger sounds/looks delicious! I’ve been all about veggie burgers lately 🙂 I can’t wait for summer to officially be here!
Erin @ Her Heartland Soul says
Omg that pecan swirl toast looks AMAZING! Do all GH carry that bread?
KathEats says
Not all but most do!
Elyse says
The black bean burger looks delish! I’m glad you’re taking it easy after that epic soccer Sunday!
Linda @ TheFitty says
I associate you with kale all the time–probably because a)you eat a lot of kale! And B) both start with a K.
Felicia @ Ingredient1 says
That kale salad looks delicious – what’s in it?!
KathEats says
Red peppers and really good local cheese
Mary says
Hi Kath! Do you worry much about eating whole grain bread vs. white? Do you think it makes much of a difference!?
KathEats says
I try to eat whole grain as much as I can and I do think it makes a difference.
Meg says
What’s on top of the black bean burger? It looks like coconut! By the way, I love that mosaic table! Did you make it?
KathEats says
I thought it was coconut too (Matt made them) but it’s panko for a little crunch. And the table was a gift to my mom about 10 years ago!
Cassie says
Interesting show! And sweet potato fries–ohhhhhh yeah!

Great dream team and I love how you differentiated the two Kelly’s by season instead of last name!
I have almost the same lists but in different order. I’d add Kimmi (to the women’s team) not because I’m a huge fan but simply because I think it would be amazing to see her play again after so many years. I’d also move Kelly Wiglesworth up on the list for the same reason.
Stephen Fishbach – I love reading his recaps over on People so I would love to see him get another chance – I think he will play a great strategic game.
Max and Keith are the only two I probably wouldn’t have picked but honestly I’m not sure who I’d replace them with. Maybe Jeremy or Jeff?
I’m so psyched for this season! : )
Hope you had a terrific Mother’s Day!

Hey Kath,
This is unrelated to your post but I’d love to hear your thoughts given that I know you have high standards. I live a few hours away from you in VA and am looking at preschools for my 4 y.o. and I’d love to hear a) how you evaluated the choices available for Mazen and ultimately decided where he would go, and b) what you love about his school and what you don’t love about it. Without being specific, is it more Montessori-based or more traditional in its curriculum? I’m also assuming that, when you moved into your new house, you knew which school district and kindergarten you wanted him to attend. We will likely be moving within our town in the next year and have several different kindergarten choices available. However, one of the preschool choices I’m strongly considering now asks that we also commit to their kindergarten program. I feel compelled to give the other kindergartens their fair shot before I decide, so I’m sort of shopping for preschool and kindergarten in one fell swoop at the moment and would love to hear how you evaluated your choices. Feel free to email me if this is not the right place for these questions. Thank you!!

Hey Sam! My preschool process was actually really easy – I only looked at ones I could walk to. There were several and we applied to two and only got into one, so that’s where we went! We’ve been really happy with it. It’s much less expensive than a Montessori, and it’s play and social-based learning. We’ve been very happy with it, and Mazen has learned a lot this year, so we’ll definitely be returning next year and will continue through pre-K. It’s also just down the street from our house, so that’s super convenient too!

Thanks!

I try so hard not to get into reality shows because then they OWN me until the season is over. Shockingly, I’ve never seen even an episode of Survivor. I think I may be the only person left on earth who hasn’t, lol. So many people have office pools all over though and I have friends who plan parties and fill out their beginning brackets. That’s great though, why not have some fun with the TV watching, right?? 🙂
KathEats says
You should watch Survivor!!
Jessica Campbell says
I am seeing that new La Croix soda in the background – so good!
KathEats says
Yes!! I love them all

Joe was my top pick for the guys too! I’m excited for this season
