I’m having a lovely day working on the porch!! I have a feeling I’ll be spending many, many hours out here until summer is in full swing. But we do have a ceiling fan to make the heat move!
I went to a great cycle class this morning. Only bad part was that it was inside! It feels a little weird to bend over my uterus to pump my legs, but overall, it’s a great way for me to get out of breath without going for a hard run.
When I returned, I quickly showered, greeted a plumber to fix our leaky bathtub faucet, and made a smoothie to tide me a few hours to lunch.
Inside: 4 stalks of kale, 1 scant cup of milk, 5 pieces frozen banana, 1/2 packet of Vega Vanilla Almond protein blend. I forgot how good Vega tastes in a smoothie! This was a vanilla dream.
Tub is now fixed and I’ve been outside writing for a few hours waiting for a different plumber to come and install our gas range (which costs a mandatory $300 beyond the price of the stove for the natural gas install – booooo!)
Lunch was a tall tale sandwich. Mustard, mayo, pickle, cheese and lemon hummus. If you’re wondering, yes, this was incredibly hard to eat!
Almonds..
Grapes + cheese!
Watch out…lion on the prowl. Good thing I’m screened in!
Allie@LiveLaughEat says
You have me craving cheese every damn day! 🙂
Katie @ Peace Love and Oats says
I love screened in porches! They’re the best way to enjoy the weather without the bugs!
Khushboo says
Ahhh the famous pregnancy pickle makes an appearance 🙂
Michelle (Better with Berries) says
I’m so wishing I had a ceiling fan right now. Or a window. Or anything besides a hot, stuffy room full of 24 eighth graders who just came from gym class 🙂
Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table says
I’ve got to find the Vanilla Almond flavor! I just tried the Vanilla Chai and made a frapp with it -so good!
Ashley @ My Food 'N' Fitness Diaries says
ah i’d LOVE to be working on my porch right now! i keep staring out at the beautiful sunshine from my office window wishing i could be outside. 🙂 enjoy!
Molly @ RDexposed says
I want to take my work outside, too! HIPPA wouldn’t like that though.
Happy RD Day!
Kelly says
I wish I had a gas range! I grew up cooking with gas, but the last house I bought only has electric. 🙁 Did you some gas appliances in your house already, so the $300 cover just to have a range hook up or is it because you didn’t have any gas in your house?
KathEats says
It’s just to swap one gas range for another. $200 in labor and $100 in city permit 🙁
Kelly says
They totally get you in the install! Oh well, the new stove will be worth it! Have fun! 🙂
Paige @ Healthy Hits the Spot says
Omg! A lion?! Haha, those are things you do NOT see outside your porch in California 😉 Cheese & grapes sound soo yummy!
Ellie @ healthy belly ellie says
Vega is definitely my absolute favorite protein powder brand! I love the Vanilla Almond, and also the Vega One Vanilla Chai and Chocolate flavors are amazing!
Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat says
Oh, to have a screened in porch! I always seem to attract the mosquitoes when I sit outside so that would be a fabulous solution. But right now, all I really want is for my office to have a window facing outside, rather than other offices!!
Hope @ With A Side Of Hope says
I wish I had a screened in porch like that! It looks so comfy and cozy. Jealous! 🙂
eliza says
Are your usual spin classes outside?!
KathEats says
Haha no, but most of my regular workouts are!
jojo says
You have a beautiful porch!
Kale in smoothie.. I have done spinach but not kale yet. A little afraid to..
Jacqueline@digintobooks says
Isn’t the weather crazy? I feel like it’s summer here, which is glorious! A screened in porch sounds like exactly what I need. Love the tall sandwich!
Caroline @ After Dinner Dance says
I’ve yet to try kale in my smoothies – I’m a little afraid but I really should try it!
Johanna B says
Glad you have a screen. I’ve seen my first mosquito of the summer (and spring isn’t here officially yet) [sigh]
Angel7 says
I finally tried some manchego cheese last weekend, and both my husband and I liked it.

Love the porch! THe smoothie looks great 🙂
Aylin @ Glow Kitchen says
Mmmm green smoothies! I love the so much. I never pepped mine up with vanilla. Good idea.
Katie @ Happy Figs says
I love your porch, so pretty! I want it.
Green smoothies are the best, my kiddies love them, my daughter goes and picks the kale from our garden and the fresh aloe Vera to put in ours. I always add frozen banana to it because that pretty much stops the smoothie from tasting too much like kale. I know my kids are a bit weird because they love that the smoothie is green, they call it monster juice.
I swear by green smoothies, my kids where getting sick at least every 2-3 months for years, it was crazy but then a friend of mine told me to get them on a green smoothie a day and to make sure the green part of it was always fresh greens. My kids have not been sick for 1 and half years! Not a single sniffle or cold in our house. Such a relief.
Andrea @FrSeed2Stomach says
Just ate my first bite of Cville cluster (you’re my favorite opensky curator) and LOVE it! The chewy clusters are delicious. I love that there’s enough coconut to taste it! yum.
KathEats says
Yay!
Cait's Plate says
Hahaha – I was going to say, I’m impressed you can bite into that sandwich! 🙂 It looks delicious anyway!
And I’ve always wanted to try the Vega protein blends in smoothies…I really need to get some of those!
Averie @ Averie Cooks says
That mandatory install fee is crazy…ouch. Well, it will all be worth it in the end 🙂
Jessica @ The Process of Healing says
I’m loving this weather as well.. so lucky you have a screened in porch to work in!
I’m not pregnant but that sandwich sounds absolutely AMAZING!!
Jasper Naomi @ crunchylittlebites says
it’s not even st. patty’s day and I am tired of green 🙁 what’s wrong with me…grr
Ericka Andersen says
Kath — question for you! I always want to use stalks of kale for juicing but can never find anything but bags of kale leaves. Where do you find kale stalks? I would love to know! Thanks.
KathEats says
Hmmm. The kale I buy is usually in a bunch and has both stalks and leaves. I usually tear the leaves off and don’t eat the stalks.
KathEats says
[This is most often from whole foods]
Blessing | Working Mom Journal says
What kind of juicer do you recommend for green juicing? I love your green juices and I will like to get started on it myself.
KathEats says
I have a Breville Juice Fountain Plus and it works great. I haven’t tried any other brands though
Megan @ Megan's Munchies says
I wish I had a porch like that! SO pretty!
kathleen @ the daily crumb says
i agree – when the weather is so nice it just doesn’t seem right to be indoors exercising!! looked like you have enjoyed the outdoors throughout the rest of your day, though 🙂
Sam says
What do you mean bend over your uterus? You’re 14 weeks, your uterus isn’t even close to your belly button. There is no way your uterus is inhibiting biking.

KathEats says
It’s not inhibiting it, but I can feel it. There is pressure there. It’s my body and I know what feels weird!
KathEats says
Also I’m 2 days away from 16 weeks
“By about 16 weeks of pregnancy the top of the uterus or fundus will have grown to about halfway between the pubic hair line and the belly button or navel (felt when lying down).”
Maria says
I don’t care if I’m not pregnant, you totally have me wanting some pickles and cheese on a sandwich!
Clare says
I made my FIRST green smoothie yesterday – much like yours 🙂 It was delicious! All your eats look beeeaaautiful Kath 😉
Maria@ Sinfully Nutritious says
The porch looks great. We cleaned ours up today. Can’t wait to get all the furniture out. Dinner on the grill was on the menu tonight.
Enjoy the rest of your day.
Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife says
Such a pretty porch space–I’d work there all the time too 😉
Amelia says
I love your cushion fabric on the wicker. It’s one of my favorite color combos! 🙂
I probably would have had to make an open faced sandwich with that tall bun. Otherwise I would inhale too quickly to keep it from falling over.
Brenna says
Your screened in porch looks comfy with your new furniture! Behind ‘the lion’ I see straw – do you have barn animals behind your house?
KathEats says
Nope, that’s just the neighbors trying to grow some grass
Eva says
Kath,
I have been following your blog for years (I got my DTR credentials at the same time you got your RD) but this is the first time I am commenting. The problem is that I would love to follow along your new BERF blog (I have two kids myself) but for some reason I can not open up that blog! Everytime I try, my computer freeze up! Has anyone else had the same trouble?
KathEats says
Eva, So sorry to hear that! Are you going to http://www.babykerf.com/? Could you try a different browser?
Jen says
I’ve had some trouble too. And then I have a bunch of ads pop up 🙁
On another note – what do you mean by “scant cup of milk”?
KathEats says
“Just under” a cup
J3nn(Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) says
That smoothie sounds delish!
RunEatRepeat says
I love Lion <3
Katie @ Talk Less, Say More says
Mmm…I could go for a green smoothie about now. 🙂
Amy says
that seriously looks like the tiniest lunch in the world. I’m sorry, but that does not qualify as a sandwich- maybe an appetizer! That really keeps you full? Are you just snacking a lot more so eating smaller lunches?
KathEats says
The other half of my lunch was the smoothie. I split lunch into two parts because yes, I’m doing smaller more frequent meals.
Rhapsody says
So jealous of your weather! Seems like everywhere in the US is warm except us in the Pacific Northwest! I can already see the daffodils wilting under our cold temps and rain/snow. Glad you’re enjoying the weird weather on your nice porch.
Sarah Hunt says
I’ve been following your blog for a while but this is the first time I’ve posted. I love your porch! I just recently moved to London, England and miss having a porch and a yard. Your photos are beautiful and they inspire me, as I continue to explore with my cooking. Thanks!
KathEats says
Thanks for your first comment Sarah!
Fran@ Broken Cookies Don't Count says
Looks like a great lunch!
Alyssa says
It’s so funny how you can “feel” your uterus. I totally could too even before i “technically” should have. I think when you’re pregnant you’re hyper-aware of your body- that was one of my favorite parts of being pregnant though!
