Matt and I slipped away for a night on the town….er the pier!
C+K were left in charge of the boys – and a dinosaur on the loose!
We went to our favorite tiki bar on the pier where we ordered cocktails (marg for me, Pimm’s cup for him) and listened to some live music.
WAIT THE SUN IS IN MY EYES!
That’s better!
We decided the menu at the attached restaurant looked great. We were in the mood for some fried seafood!
We shared two plates – one with soft shell crab (which I love but it still gives me the heebie jeebies!)
And one with fried flounder. They both came with fries, shrimp hushpuppies and slaw.
It was the perfect beach night!

I had my first soft shell crab a few weeks ago. Yep hee bee gee bees! It was on a BLT at that. I can officially say, been there done that and I will never do that to a BLT again.

I’ve never tried soft shell crabs. I can’t even imagine eating shell and all. As far as I know, we don’t have them here on the West Coast. Plenty of hard shell crabs, though.
Paulette Clark says
My favorite way to eat soft shelled crabs is fried, of course, and then stuck between two pieces of toast(white bread only) with mayo and a little ketchup and a side of grits in the morning. That way you can’t see what you are crunching. Back when we were so broke and had little ones we used to wait until they went to school and then I would fry a couple of crabs because we didn’t want to share with kids who might not enjoy the experience. We were young and selfish but that worked for me. I think that might have been our “date night”.
KathEats says
Haha that is awesome!
Casey @ Casey the College Celiac says
Looks like a wonderful night out! Fun, family and delicious food! What more could you ask for? 🙂
Mandy says
Kath, I read you to see what you’re eating. I like to compare what I’m eating to what you’re eating, because I admire you, and you are an RD, and we are in similar places in life. Just some feedback, I don’t like your guest posts (I like YOU much better!) and I don’t like your “day in the life posts (Well, I DO, but that’s not why I read. I want to know what you’re eating!) Also I love to know how you are working out. Look, I’ve followed you for a few years now, and we are in similar places in our lives. I hope you will jump back on to everyday eating/workouts when you get home!!
Mandy says
Also, because you look hottttt! 😀

Hi Kath–I have been following your blog for quite some time now. I am currently battling my way towards recovery from an eating disorder, and often find myself drawn to the natural way you relate to your food and your body. I just wanted to say thank you–your posts give me glimmers of hope as I see you reflect how much joy food can bring, and this has been an important part of my recovery journey.

Thank you Anna and good luck to you!
