I am soooo tired of eating and drinking. I just don’t know how to stop! This week-long party continues and we are having so much fun. But I think all of us are ready for some salads and soups to simplify mealtime again. We have one more night with Larbs and Matt before everyday starts again.
The kids went running this morning – actually a really great run. Must be all the glycogen – or perhaps the coffee with breakfast! Matt and I killed it with 8:32, 8:14 + 8:21 paced miles (and a few slower ones too as we cooled down). Then we all headed to the bakery for lunch!
We’re closed today, but the sandwich cooler was open! All the foods in here are leftover from last week and are not suitable for customer consumption anymore, but as of today, there was just enough to feed our family. My parents went crazy with the idea of having a “restaurant to themselves.”
While we assembled sandwiches, several customers did come to the door and we sent them away with a free loaf of bread from the Thanksgiving bake (still plenty good!) They were pleased
Our family took the rest of the leftover loaves home so we’re empty for the Monday AM bake. After packing up sandwiches, we headed to Blenheim Vineyards to taste wine and picnic
The highlight there was meeting KERF reader Jordan who was working behind the counter! It’s so fun to be recognized in public : ) Hi Jordan!
After tasting, we bought a bottle of the red blend to have with our picnic
Lunch was served…
With no shortage of desserts…Pumpkin Oh and a huge bag of Savannah bars! I had a piece of each – our desserts are the best.
Next stop was Jefferson Vineyards!
I didn’t taste here since I was the driver, but I smelled them all and they smelled excellent!
Matt bought the Petit Verdot
Just said goodbye to Mom and Dad and Larbs, Matt and I are chilling at home tonight.
Pizza is on the menu!
And salad. Lots of salad.

Love the idea of a tart granny smith and a full bodied glass of red. Yum!

I can just picture your mom and dad giddy while making sandwiches and running free throughout GH 🙂

I know what you mean! Holiday foods are delicious, exciting and new for a few days, then I just want to get back on track with lighter, healthier stuff…or at least normal stuff, haha!
kathleen @ the daily crumb says
bummer you guys weren’t open on small business day! but how lucky for those customers who walked away with a freebie.
i know what you mean about the food + drink… it seems never-ending this time of year.
Katelyn says
I feel the same way about eating & drinking more! My brother is in town and wants to go out to dinner, but I’m not even feeling that hungry! :/ (By the way, I tried taking him to the GH here, but they were closed too. Next time!) Looks like a nice afternoon at those vineyards. 🙂 Have a nice night!
Katelyn @ Chef Katelyn says

What a fun day! I love this holiday time. Did a turkey trot, then a snow hike, and today a park walk/jog w the hubby. I am loving this time.
Mmmm… Pizza. We’re doing s’getti and salad. 😉
Cait's Plate says
I hear ya. I always feel ready for fruits and veggies after an extended period of eating/drinking. It’s nice to know the body craves that naturally!
Looks like a fabulous day though – enjoy your last night with Matt/Larbs!
Amanda says
I would also be pretty excited about having a restaurant all to myself. 🙂
I hear you on the salad. I’ve had enough indulgent foods and I’m ready to get back to regular eating that doesn’t leave me wanting to take a nap.
~Christy @ wonderofallthings says
Soooo much fun! I’m with you on the lighter foods — just had our third tday meal in a week…which I love…but am ready to scale it back a bit. Whew!

Kelly @ Foodie Fiasco says
I’m glad you had some family time! Happy Saturday (or until dinner anyway… ;))
Lorin says
I feel you on the food thing. It’s like a cycle where you think well I’ve eaten this much so what’s the harm in one more bite and then you feel overly full ect ect. At least you got a nice run in! I think my motivation to exercise is at an all-time low, but I will definitely do better this next week!
Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife says
Haha–at least you’ve had yummy food to eat, ya know?! But it is good that the body craves what is best for it after a bit of indulgence. Enjoy your salad!
Julie H. of Spinach and Sprinkles says
What a perfect way to spend the day! 🙂 ….I’m with your parents, I think it would be pretty darn cool to have an entire restaurant to myself too!
That picture of you and Matt is SUPER! You two just look so cute- it’s a beautiful photograph!
Kelly says
I love two things about the first picture. 1. All the boys are wearing plaid! 2. Matt is cradling the wine like a baby!

Thanks Laura. I use Alba on my face (cleanser/moisturizer) and Bare minerals

Having free access to a restaurant’s kitchen would be amazing! I think I would get just as excited as your parents. 😀

I would love to live near vineyards. We have a few here in MA, but I would be in heaven if I lived by the Finger Lakes or Napa Valley. 😛

What is the make of your bag? I love cross bodies and purple is my absolute fav color!!
KathEats says
It’s by Co-Lab and I got it at Loehmann’s. Love the cross-body!
Julia H. @ The Petite Spiel says
I’ve always thought that must be the best part of having a restaurant/bakery–leftovers! It’s so wild to think that you can’t sell things after a certain point because they’re not, as you put it, suitable for customer consumption anymore, even though they’re still plenty good! Glad to see that you guys make use of the leftovers instead of chucking it all in the trash!
Paralia Apartmani says
Looks like a wonderful day. Beautiful photos!

My friend Laura and I were at Blenheim on Saturday as well and I noticed you but didn’t say anything bc I felt bad interrupting your family picnic! I’ve never posted on your blog before but I read it daily and love it! Thanks for sharing your love of food and Charlottesville with us! They are two of my favorite things too!
Next time I’ll say hi!
KathEats says
Oh fun!!! Wish you’d said hello – my family gets a huge kick out of it when that happens 🙂 Hope to see you some other place!
