No, no disgusting alcoholic drink on the menu today. Just sardines in a cocktail glass! Served with pretzels for dipping
Even better the second day
On the side I made a big leafy salad topped with leftover squash, olive oil, salt and a drizzle of maple syrup and cinnamon
Grapes on the side!
Staged on our beautiful sunny porch – thanks to skylights
And sliding doors!
After lunch I opened the Wilbur’s box of chocolates Lauren and Toly brought us last night – so much fun to eat little chips and not have to unwrap a single one! The dark are the best 😉
Just got these gorgeous pillow covers from Glamdesign on Etsy in the mail – can’t wait to brighten up the couch.
This morning’s activities: Bakery, BodyPump with Meredith, farmer’s market. I was planning to spend today developing a mushroom recipe for Jefferson Vineyards, but I decided to save that for a weekday. I have no trouble working on weekends, but I have a hard time relaxing on weekdays, so I’m saving it for Monday. Also – we have dinner plans and should probably plan to eat the mushrooms for dinner the night I make them!
Have a peaceful afternoon!

Pretzels and sardines? Humm, if I want a first time experience with sardines where should I get them?
KathEats says
I would get them at Whole Foods. The ones that are a bit more expensive do taste better. Or Trader Joe’s smoked herring -that is so good!
Julia H. @ The Petite Spiel says
Such cute chocolates! I’ve never seen ones like that–are they about the size of Hershey Kisses, or smaller?
KathEats says
About the same size – slightly smaller
Kim @ Spoonful of Sass says
They came before Hershey kisses and they are endlessly better! They are called buds.
Laura (Blogging Over Thyme) says
Wilbur’s are the best! I’ve been having those since I was little. They also sell mini chocolate chips, which I use when baking. Yum!
kathleen @ the daily crumb says

Maple syrup in salad, hmmm sounds like something my husband would like.

Etsy packages in the mail are pretty fantastic. Very pretty new covers.
Can’t wait to see the porch all finished..it’s coming along so fast!

Wilbur buds are made in my hometown of Lititz, PA! They’re delicious!
Christie @ Pepper Lynn says
Mmm…sardines. Do you add anything to them or just east them as is from the can? Takes me back to my childhood when we’d eat them with mustard and saltines.
KathEats says
I added curry powder, smoked paprika and greek yogurt – see yesterday’s lunch post for the photos 🙂
Katie @ Peace Love and Oats says
Your lunch looks so good, and that is my kind of cocktail! I’m loving your porch too, what a good idea to add skylights!
Amanda says
The porch is looking good! That’s going to be such a beautiful space.
And I LOVE your new pillow covers! What a fun color.

Susan H. @ the food allergy chronicles says
I love leftover roasted squash in my salad…the maple syrup is a nice twist! Still not sure about the sardines!
J @ Ess and Jae V2.0 says
So your porch isn’t screened in? Do you get mosquitoes where you are? Or is it an all-weather porch with breezes blowing? 🙂 Not sure about your cocktail – I like cosmos better!
KathEats says
It will be screened in – it’s still under construction
RenPfeif says

Can I ask what brand of chocolate those are? They look delicious and adorable! Thanks Kath!
KathEats says
Wilbur’s!
Julia G says
You just made me miss home! I lived in the town where Wilbur Buds are made and loved driving through town on the days when they were making the candies. The whole place smelled like chocolate. And I am glad someone else agrees that the dark ones are the best! I made my dad and stepmother bring me Wilbur Buds in June when they came down for my wedding. I savored each one 🙂
Lynn @ the actor's diet says
I want a box of chips! And a cocktail glass full of sardines.
Lauren @ Vaguely Vegan says
That salad looks delicious! What’s your go-to dressing? I’m usually a balsamic vinegarette girl but getting a little sick of it…
KathEats says
Just olive oil and salt – and often honey
Health Bee says
Yum! Love the sardines & the squash. Looking forward to trying these recipes.
Julie says
LOVE Wilbur buds! My sister lives about a block from where they are made in Lititz, PA. And we all agree that the dark ones are the best 😉
Linda says
Sardines are great! I like King Oscar Brand in virgin olive oil. Last time I had them I put them over tri-color pearl couscous, with sauteed spinach, kalamata olives and some pine nuts. Quick, easy, and delicious!
Mauimandy@The Grains of Paradise says
Wow! Thanks for the glamdesign info….I just snagged some pretty palm frond pillows for my Hawaiian cottage 🙂
Aloha!

Good for you saving your work for Monday. Some of us have trouble distinguishing work from home. It’s good to read about someone that has a healthy handle on that distinction.
