WHEW.
90* heat + hills = a recipe for exhaustion.
Thankfully I had Caitlin to play with 2.7 miles into our run!
Matt and I set out mid morning on a 6 miler. We ran 2.7 to Caitlin’s, got to meet Mama HTP, then brought Caitlin with us for most of our run back. It was a fabulous run until the last mile, which was mostly uphill and very sunny.
Thank goodness I brought the Camelbak because I don’t think we would have survived without it!
My whole body was as salty as riding a few waves in the ocean. This time from my own sweat!
Once home, hydrated and showered…
Mango slices.
Plus a salad we made for the 3 of us – random veggies, beets, gorgonzola, Garlic Gold
And a little toasted sandwich with pork tenderloin, mustard, and sundried tomato pesto
Dessert was the pit!
For the first time in YEARS (literally!) I am granola-less. Think I’m going to whip up a batch of my very own recipe!
Adios!
Anna @ Newlywed, Newly Veg says
I can always judge a workout by the amount of salt accumulated on my body 🙂 Sounds like a good one!

Mmm mango is so good now that it’s in season

I love mango, but the acid in it does a number on my lips and tongue. Still, yummy. 😀
Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) says

Mango really is the best summertime/beach snack 🙂 It’s so refreshing!

I can’t run in the heat….good for you for being so motivated! Mango looks like it hit the spot afterwards 🙂
La. says
I’ve been reading up on ham and pork and it seems to be the worst meat for your body. I’ve noticed in the past posts that you’ve eaten more pork than is recommended. What are your feelings on the nutrition pork?
I’ve REALLY enjoyed your beach posts. That you ate so healthy ON VACATION is such an inspiration!
Kath says
Who says it’s the “worst meat for your body?!” I’ve never heard that. And who has issued this recommendation? I had it last night for dinner and the leftovers today. Probably won’t have it again for a month – or more.
La. says
I had my gall bladder removed in March and my doctor said that my days of pork are over because it is hard on the liver. I’ve been reading Dr. Colbert as well, mainly a book called, Toxic Relief, and he says to stay away from pork. There’s always Dr. Kellogg and his views as well. It’s just a high fat, high calorie meat so I was curious as to your standings. Thanks for being open to questions and for responding.

I love your blog…and copied the camelbak idea, LOVE it. I’m working up on mileage and hit a lil over 7 today..got a ? for ya though..do you sip on water, or do you add any gatorade type drink?..What helps fuel you through the tough runs?
Kath says
On longer runs +8 miles I made a homemade sports drink with OJ, sugar, salt and water. Check TheFrontBurnerBlog.com for the recipe. When I’m in a pinch I use Gatorade or coconut water

Amazing salad!
I think I have you to thank for my obsession with mangoes–I watched your video way back on how to cut a mango and was inspired to try them for myself. Now I eat them all the time…and I love sucking on the pit too:)

I’m liking the sound of that sandwich! Pork tenderloin and pesto? There is not way that could not be amazing.

That sandwich looks so tasty! Extremely tasty!! I’m on a raw diet this week so I am appreciating the looks of cooked foods even more at the moment, haha. 😀

Hahahah! I hear you on the PIT dessert!
Sometimes i’ll say “oh, I should cut up some mango for tomorrow…..i’ll do it after dinner” just because I know the pit will be there! 🙂
