I’ve got to be in 30 minutes early today and am running beeee-hind!
I decided last night it would be a great day for a Rush Bowl.
I woke up craving hot oatmeal, but cold fruited blend was all I had time for. It sure was easy enough to "cook" 🙂
Today I chose the Yoga Bowl, #3 of my selection of 4 samples.
Components:
It’s got 300 calories, 6 grams of fiber and 4 grams of protein. I was hoping for a bit more protein, so I added a half cup of greek yogurt to the bottom of my bowl, plus a few Chia seeds and a generous blob of Nuttzo! This bowl has gotta hold me 5+ hours!
The flavor was good – not quite as strong in the berry dept as the other flavors though so a little less strong in general. I could taste the pineapple!
I was going to have tea given my time crunch, but coffee was calling my name!
Wait for it….
A horse!
Speaking of Yoga Bowls, YOGITOES is now in my Open Sky store 🙂 LOVE my purple yoga towel that I got for Christmas!! There are lots of pretty colors to choose from.

This jockey is gonna be late!

Have a great day back!
Freya@foodfitnessandfreya says
That bowl of food looks so pretty, the colours all seem to compliment each other nicely 🙂 aah greek yogurt is the best protein booster!!
Why does it have to hold you 5hrs, don’t you have a chance to snack? Ohmygosh, I can’t go 3hrs wirthout food, I feel for you!!
Kath says
I could have a snack, but it wouldn’t have worked that well being so busy today. I never know when I’ll have time and when I won’t, so I’d rather just eat a huge breakfast.
Jessica @ The Process of Healing says
That sounds pretty good, and so convenient!!! Are those bowls available in stores?
Kath says
They are in select Whole Foods, mostly in Colorado 🙁 Hopefully mainstream soon!
Sarah @ The Foodie Diaries says
i’ve been looking out for rush at WF but cant find it. looks very interesante
Shannon (The Daily Balance) says
hahaha – you are too cute with your coffee shapes! very imaginative 😉
Karla says
I haven’t seen those Rush yoga bowls anywhere. I’ll keep an eye out for them. I’m intrigued.
megan says
i love that you’re so rushed this morning, but you still took the time to draw in lines for a horse on your coffee picture! 🙂
those rush bowls look really good. I had a smoothie this morning, but it never seems to keep me full very long. i’d still have to have a snack I think.
rustique says
I’m amazed you still can create something that sounds so delicious even in the morning crunch! What a wonderful start to the day.
Danielle (Coffee Run) says
Haha very creative with the horse 😉
Enjoy your day!
Nutritious Foodie says
I have never seen or heard of the Yogi bowl…
By the way… I see that you use your french press all the time… would you recommend it to have at work… the coffee here at work is GROSS and I thinking I need to remedy it by brining my own coffee and french press (can’t have a coffee machine at my desk )
Kath says
Yes, yes, LOVE my french press. So easy for 1 cup at a time! You can get little ones for work too.
Mary (Food Fit & Fun) says
hahaah I love your little horse. I’m not quite sure if I’d like those Rush bowls.
Lauren @ Eater not a runner says
I’ve never seen those Rush bowls before, where did you get them? They look good!
Kath says
Lauren,
These were a sample. See my comment above about Whole Foods. you might check the Rush website?
Kaite@ Two Lives, One Lifestyle says
I’ve wanted to try the Rush Bowls since they’re local and all. They’re still kind of pricey though, but it looks like they might be handy when time is an issue.
Run Sarah says
The rush bowl looks awesome, although a bit low on protein!
Sophie @ yumventures says
Great looking breakfast! And so jealous of your coffee, I can’t get mine to foam like that.
chelsea says
Kath, I always LOL everymorning at your coffee froth shapes!! I loved the one a few days ago where you drew cat whiskers and a face. hahaha..you have an awesome blog
Kati @ Living Well says
Your b-fast bowl looks so exotic with the chia seeds and zebra stripes 🙂
Cynthia (It All Changes) says
I’m a sweat-er so I need one of those yoga towels for when I go to the studio.
Kristen @ Change of Pace says
I’ll have to keep a lookout for those Rush bowls! 🙂
Allison K says
I think the “green tea” in the rush bowl would have thrown me off. I think, after working at starbucks, I just can’t take things that are labeled “green tea” unless it is actual tea in a tea bag. Green Tea Frappucino=blech!
Love the horse!
Jil says
hahah love the horse! i love even more so that you drew on the pic! haha love it!
Heather (Heather's Dish) says
those rush bowls are SOOOOOO good! i never thought to add yogurt, but that sounds/looks really good 🙂
katherine says
Love your breakfast today. I’ve been thinking about adding some heft to my breakfasts and eating lighter meals in the evening. Do you find that happens for you, usually?
Erin (Travel, Eat, Repeat) says
Sounds like an easy weekday breakfast. I totally need hot foods on cold mornings, though. 🙂
Anne Marie@New Weigh of Life says
I love the horse picture! It really made me laugh!
andy says
Hi Kath,
I read your blog everyday, but lately it has felt a lot more like a giant commercial for your OpenSky store. I understand why you are doing it, but just to let you know, I probably won’t be clicking through here any more if all the posts are just mini-ads. When I read blogs, I like to feel inspired to have more enjoyment in my life, my meals, etc. through new recipes and new ideas without feeling like I need to buy more things to achieve that.
Kath says
Sorry you feel that way.
Hannah says
I love how blogs like yours have convinced me that green liquid = delicious. Teehee! I feel like I”m going to have to start begging you for an international component to your Open Sky store – we non-American readers love your eats too, you know! 😛
Sara says
Never seen those Yogabowls before- they look like a delicious quickie for breakfast!
Lauren says
I put some greek yogurt in my oats this morning, too. It was super good!

Julie @SavvyEats says
I love when you add features to your coffee shapes, like faces and manes. 🙂
Julie @SavvyEats says
Also, I linked to your open sky store in my post yesterday morning!
Kath says
Thanks!!
Lynn says
DITTO to what Andy said. Kath, you are money conscious, I know this from reading you. You try to spend as little money as possible at the grocery store (as well as in other areas of your life) and take liberal advantage of promotional products and freebies. So, how can you in good conscience sell something that you would never buy?
emily says
Lynn in general I really respect readers’ right to critisize bloggers (or just have a disenting opinion without getting jumped on) but some rephrasing could be a beautiful thing. You are not implying thrifty, but basically calling Kath cheap. Looking for sales at the grocery store while also occasionaly attending nice dinners out is sensible, not cheap. And I wouldn’t call accepting samples from companies “taking liberal advantage” of promotional products.
Jam says
I agree with Lynn and andy, and I don’t think Lynn’s criticism “implied” anything insulting–certainly nobody said anything about anyone being “cheap.” I, too, am an every-day reader of Kath’s blog and others, and I think that when blogs become advertisements for products or companies, it often seems to go against the mantra of so many blog writers: that eating and living healthfully is attainable and realistic for everyone, even those of us who don’t receive expensive products promotionally.
Kath says
Many blog readers have said in the past that they like the product reviews. I think trying out stuff and giving honest reviews is a fun plus of the blogging community. I know I learn about products from other bloggers that I have never tried and it helps me.

Sour-Faced Sue says
How would you all like Kath to earn the money she needs to be able to provide this blog to you? If she stopped taking ads and products and having her Open Sky store, what would you propose she do to earn the money for this full time job of hers?
Jam says
Sue,
I don’t think anyone advocated that bloggers should stop taking ads or products–I have no problem with bloggers reviewing viable products as possible inclusions in healthy lifestyles. However, somehow we have become the direct commercial market of bloggers themselves, and the products that we are being “sold” are often vastly expensive and unreasonable. Furthermore, it would be possible for bloggers to have stores, such as Open Sky, without constantly plugging them within blog posts that are meant to be “healthy living” posts.
Kath says
Lynn,
First off, you really know nothing about my spending habits.
But secondly, I do own a lot of the items in my store and have bought them with my own money. Yogitoes, french press, Krups kettle (which I bought from myself!), chia seeds (ditto), my cameras, many of the OXO items, Circulon, stick blender, HRM, coffee grinder. I feel that I am pretty conscious of prices when I’m evaluating things that might go in. While the Nuttzo or coconut butter might be pricey for a nut butter, they are still relatively inexpensive in the scheme of cost. So you can’t claim that I’m selling things I would never buy!
Hillary [Nutrition Nut on the Run] says
I think you chose exactly the right bowl for your Rush Smoothie today =)
caronae says
That bowl sounds amazing! Hope your day hasn’t been too hectic 🙂
Tay says
LOL to your horse drawing.
lynn (The Actors Diet) says
my little cousin would love your coffee – she’s horse-obsessed!
Sour-Faced Sue says
Dear Kath,
It really makes me mad when you try to earn a living doing what you truly love because I’m in a job I don’t like. It also makes me mad when you get things for free because I don’t. And I hate it when you sell stuff because if I buy it you’ll get money and somehow that’s wrong. But please keep writing this blog every single day 3 times a day even when you are out late at night and working like crazy and going to school because it keeps me entertained. ‘kay? Thanks. Bye.
Miserably yours,
Sour-faced Sue.

@Jam, If the blog readers are not “the direct commercial market of bloggers themselves” who is? That’d be like saying “when I watch House I feel like I’m the direct commercial market of the TV show ads.” Um, yeah, that’s advertising and commericials work. The alternative is public radio-like fundraising which would mean for weeks at a time there’d be nothing but endless requests for money with very little content. And it would mean you’d be expected to send money to Kath.
And so far all the stuff Kath sells on her Open Sky site is geared towards healthy living. And lots of people can afford what she sells. If you can’t or you choose not to and you decide not to support her in any other way that’s your choice. But to say that she’s becoming to commercial or reminding people about her store says much more about your own issues with money and earning than it does about Kath’s behavior.
Christy says
That Yoga Bowl looks and sounds yummy! The horse coffee made me smile 🙂
La says
I love the bowl you served this in! It’s so cool. I love fun dishes.
sabina says
I’ve noticed that you like eating your chia seeds whole; I grind mine (as I also do for flax seed). I’ve read that one’s digests them better this way. What are your thoughts? (I like the powdery, almost non-texture of ground chia seed and flax seed). 🙂
Kath says
Everything that I have read says they do not have to be ground to be absorbed well. I like them as little balls!
Kristilyn (My 29th Year) says
Your breakfast looks interesting – I never think to add something like granola to my smoothies, but maybe I’ll try. Of course, that means I’ll have to go all SIAB like you!
Cute horse. 🙂

Argh I wish I had known about this before! I bought a yellow one and really don’t like the color 🙁 When I’m rich I’ll get another one I guess lol 🙂
