After reading about my run with Sarah on the blog, Matt A. had challenged me to beat my split times with him. So last night we set a date for an 8AM run. We all agreed it would be better to run first thing than wait until mid morning.
Alarm went off at 7:45…I was in the mood to run, but my body was not primed! Too much bedtime wine + sugar. A few text messages later, I told him to lower his expectations for speed, but I was coming 🙂
Man is Matt fast!!! He paced me to run the fastest non-race mile of my life: 8:02!
Here were our splits:
- 8:02
- 8:10
- 8:33
- 8:31
And then .75 of a mile more.
Is it bad that I felt like I had slowed down sooo much and was still running an 8:31 mile!? The boys [my Matt came too – he is also fast] were breezing through, but I was totally beat by the end. Matt challenged me to some sprint intervals in the last .75 mile and we were running a 6:50 pace for some of it! WHEW.
I couldn’t wait to come inside for breakfast
Can you guess what I had???
Leftover millet + amaranth grits!
Reheated in the microwave with half a banana and a splash of 2% milk. Plus kiwi, blueberries, some preserves and about 1/5 of a crumbled Pro Bar.
2 small mugs of coffee
A rose by any other name would smell as sweet…
We just had a Younger Family meeting and in a bit we are saying goodbye to my parents, who are heading back to Hillsborough today. We’re here for 24 more hours and while the weather is a bit overcast, we’re hoping to get in some fun beach time, a walk to Lighthouse Landing with mom, and possibly a couple’s soccer game this afternoon.
See y’all then!
Simone @ P:T says
Sounds like a great start to Sunday! Enjoy the rest of your trip and all of the “couples” fun!
Sarah says
An 8 am run on a Sunday?? I can’t think of anything more unappealing. Try relaxing, hanging out for God’s sake.

Sarah,
That’s exactly what I plan to do all afternoon. The run was awesome and beautiful.

Ellen says
wow, i think i need some guys to run with me! i know i’m capable of running faster than a 9 min pace, but i can never push myself to do it unless i’m racing. that’s very impressive 🙂
the breakfast looks amazing. i love millet! i actually just found some millet flakes here in italy and am excited to try it for breakfast tomorrow.
Jessica @ How Sweet It Is says
Those are some impressive time!

Is it just me or do the Matts look quite a bit alike?
Katharina says
I LOVE breakfasts with an array of fruits. And mixed grains? Even better!
I hope you enjoy the rest of your day 😀
p.s. I agree with some of the people above me. I know that when I get back from a run, I feel so happy and I’m in such a cheerful mood.
Deva (Voracious Vorilee) says
An early morning run sounds super fun right now! I was catching up on sleep while you were out sprinting! It looks like you are having a fabulous weekend, and looking at your post from last night, the cake you had sounds fabulous 🙂

Nice work on the splits! It’s always fun to have someone there to motivate you and push you along every once in a while, even just to mix up the workout every once in a while.
Jenn Eats Nutritiously Now says
Soccer sounds fun. Have a great Sunday!
Susan says
Awesome work!! Sometimes all you need is someone to push you a little 😉 I find running a quick mile to be pretty easy – it’s always those miles that follow that are the hardest 😛 Enjoy your last day there!
angieinatlanta says
Kick booty run!
I love running with my boyfriend; I always have to push myself to keep up with him!
Joelle (The Pancake Girl) says
WHOA homegirl you are FAST! Way to go!
Hallie (Healthy Twists) says
Haha I woke up at 7:15 to work out and I thought as I was running (since I didn’t start my run til almost 9:30), I really should wake up earlier and get started sooner next time and then I’ll have more of my day to relax.
Wow speedy! Amazing job. I’m so new to running so I’m working on just being comfortable out there, but I hope to one day increase my speed as well.
Emily, homecookedem says
WOW! That is crazy fast!! Enjoy your last bit of vacation!! 🙂

I would be COMPLETELY wiped out after a run that fast! Way to challenge yourself and kick some booty!
Your photography skills keep getting better & better. Such gorgeous pics!
theskinnyplate says
Great weekend with great company! Enjoy the rest of it.
Lizzy says
wonderful run girl! congrats!
Sarah says
Uh give me a break. The best way to start a Sunday (it’s the WEEKEND, remember?) is nice and leisurely. Maybe have a nice time in the sack. Let’s get real here.
Sara says
Sarah please, calm down! Some people actually DO enjoy getting up early on the weekend to go for a run, workout, etc. I love how just because YOU don’t think that is the proper way to start a Sunday you are sounding so snobby about it. Just because you would rather lounge in the morning, anybody who wouldn’t isn’t nomal? CHILL OUT!
Food Makes Fun Fuel says
Nice run! Hope the soccer game goes(or went) well
Eileen says
GREAT run! I was out there at 8:30, too … I have kids, so I can’t always be choosy about when I run, and many people just enjoy it most in the morning anyway! I had lots of company on my beautiful fall run!
The Matts are totally handsome, and totally look alike!
alyssa says
sounds like Sarah’s a little jealous she can’t wake up early motivated to work out. good for you for getting out there and doin’ your thang kath 🙂 you’ve got the fabulous bod to show for it!

Running with a partner can be really good if you have trouble doing speed work alone.
Sounds like a fabulous afternoon plan.
AnnQ says
Great run! I agree – I *love* running before I do anything else on a weekend! 🙂
Wendy says
I’m in the same boat as Eileen – my kids dictate when I get to run. But first thing in the morning, when given the chance, is my favorite time to go! Especially in the fall. Love the beach scenery, too.
Great run, speedy lady, and your Matts are adorable! 🙂
Sarah says
Jealous? no way… I love running in the a.m. as well but getting up at 8 a.m. on a Sunday for pete’s sake? Ridic.
Emily (Emily Eats and Exercises) says
I’m so impressed with your speed! If you ever feel like posting any suggestions about how to improve running speed, I’m all ears.
Enjoy the rest of the vacation.
Jac says
wow…that’s a super fast run!! lol..
