I love getting up on vacation to run – it’s much more exciting than doing my same ole route in Cville! Especially when you have a partner (in fact, I probably wouldn’t have gone without my partner!)
Monica and I covered about 5 miles along the waterfront this morning. It was a bit more congested than running in Chicago, Boston or San Francisco, but still very pleasant. WAY more pleasant than running on Bourbon Street on a Sunday morning!
Breakfast this morning was sponsored by Stonyfield : ) They gave me a few yogurts yesterday and I couldn’t fit them all in at once, so I asked the front desk of my hotel if they had a fridge I could store them in overnight. They did!! It was so easy to just pick them up in the morning all chilly and ready for breakfast. I’m definitely going to ask for that in the future when there is no mini fridge in the room. Yogurt makes such an easy hotel breakfast.
I poured on the vanilla almond Nature’s Path that came in the yogurt bag on top. Loved the fig flavor this morning!
I brought an orange from home (they are a fruit that travels really well in a bumpy bag!!) and had that on the side. I also always travel with spoons and instant oatmeal!
The Melange blend by Sbux rounded out the meal. I can drink coffee here because it’s not at all humid – feels like fall!
Headed to the airport in just a few – long day ahead!! Hoping my Tempurpedic pillow, Jamba Juice, bananas and books will charge me through!
Katelyn@ Foodie Goes to School says
The bagel place in the Charlotte airport has REALLY good sandwiches! I recommend! 🙂
J3nn (Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) says
Not humid sounds dreamy. 🙂
Baking N Books says
Ditto. Humidity is killing me. Just walking in it!
What are you reading now Kath?
Molly @ RDexposed says
That’s a good idea-asking the front desk for refrigeration. That would have come in handy when the boy had pork belly leftovers from a Chicago dinner and he ate it 2 days later after 40 hours of no refrigeration…. (He’s still alive.)
Cait's Plate says
That was really smart to ask the front desk that. I’ve never thought to do that and am always bummed when there is no mini fridge in the room because yogurt is my go-to hotel breakfast (we luckily had one when I was just on vacation and I think yogurt more mornings than not!).
Glad you had a great run – the waterfront in SD is so beautiful.
Safe travels back!
Anna @ Newlywed, Newly Veg says
Running on vacation is always such a treat…although I usually feel a little nervous about getting lost, ha.
Amanda @ a fattie to foodie says
Safe travels! Get ready for some major humidity! The weather is painful today here in Charlottesville!
Julie H. of Spinach and Sprinkles says
I JUST got back from vacation, oops= running went on the back burner for the 5 days I was gone….. Have safe and easy travels! 🙂
Lauren says
That yogurt sounds delicious! Good luck traveling! Just relax and enjoy the rest of your mini vacation 😀 Just for future reference, if you are ever traveling through Northern VA and need a break from traveling/driving/etc, your welcome to stop by and relax for a little. I know long drives are awful!!

Love changing up my routes! and working out with a partner too 🙂

I honestly wouldn’t have thought that oranges would travel well. I’d be scared they’d get punctured and shoot juice everywhere!*
Khushboo says
Ah good call on asking the front desk! Last year, my aunt and I were staying in a hotel for just over a week and ended up buying a mini cooler to make up for the lack of fridge!
Krystina (Organically Me) says
Safe travels, Kath!
Namaste Gurl says
Yay for yogurt– glad you managed to find a refrigerator to store it!
Safe travels ahead!
Paige @ Running Around Normal says
I would have never thought to ask the front desk to keep my own food cold for me! That’s so nice that they did that for you.
Angel7 says
That is a good idea to ask the front desk at the hotel if they have a fridge. I will remember that.

I’m definitely jealous of a run in no humidity!! I felt like I was running through a raincloud just now on my 3 mile run! Safe travels back to VA!

With all the reading you do, have you ever tried a Nook or Kindle? I never thought I’d be able to enjoy reading on technology like that but I just love my Nook Color. Just curious. 🙂
Hope you have a safe, quick and event free trip home. 🙂
KathEats says
I love the concept but I don’t like that you have to buy the books. Nearly 100% of my books are hand-me-downs from friends and Karen so I like not having to pay for any of them
Susan says
I love my Nook Color, too! It’s cut way down on the magazines piled around the house and I find I actually read more. I
Kath, if you have a B&N in town you can connect to their wi-fi for an hour each day and read for free. I’ve been doing that a lot lately. I sit across the street at Peet’s and am still able to connect to B&N and can read without getting distracted by the stuff I think I should be doing when I read at home. Some libraries also have the capability to lend via e-readers (mine doesn’t yet) and the Nook (not sure about the Kindle) has a “lend me” feature where you can share with other Nook owners. I bet some of your blog readers would be willing to lend you a book or two. 😉
Kate (What Kate is Cooking) says
I never thought to ask the front desk for a fridge. I try to keep everything properly cooled after I once ate a cheeseburger that sat out overnight and got the worst food poisoning of my life 🙂
Ellie@fitforthesoul says
Mmmm Oikos Stonyfield is so tasty~~:) Have a safe and relaxing day Kath!
Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga says
By this time, you’re on board and flying the friendly skies and halfway home.
So glad you got an early morning run in and were able to get outdoors one last time before being in airports/airplanes all day.
It was SO wonderful to meet you, Kath. I really, really enjoyed it. I hope you come back to San Diego again 🙂 Or that we cross paths again soon!
Gina @ Running to the Kitchen says
That is such a great idea. I travel a lot for work and don’t know why I’ve never thought to ask the front desk to do that for me before!

What hotel did you stay in?

A nice fall day sounds really good right now! Have a safe trip home!

Agree with everyone – great tip about the hotel fridge! I also never noticed that hotel room Starbucks packets were unique flavors. I’m going to pay closer attention next time I travel and hopefully enjoy some new blends.
Ash @ Good Taste Healthy Me says
I’m so scared to bring any food or anything through airport security. I feel like they’re going to flag me down and give me sass.
Hannah says
That fig flavour does look amazing, but I still miss the caramel oikos most!
Cara says
Hey! So I’m going to the ADA conference in September in San Diego! Any cool places to eat or things to check out while I’m there? And are you going too??
KathEats says
Unfortunately I’m not going, and unfortunately I didn’t really get to many restaurants on my short visit!
