I think I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve gone running since finding out I was pregnant. It’s always been more of a mental thing than a physical thing – I just feel that the intensity of running was right for me. And then there was nausea. And now it’s just a touch of laziness. Almost all the reasons I run I can satisfy with a good walk.
But today……I felt like running!! So I fed the baby a date and headed outside to test the waters…
[Wearing 3 layers of tank/bra/shirt!]
Endurance-wise, I did really well. I mean, 2.5 miles is nothing to get overly excited about, but I didn’t have any trouble completing this distance (although I did have a break at Great Harvest in the middle!) And I did walk up the steepest of hills (What’s new, Cville?)
Body-wise, things did feel different. I think the bouncing bothered my bladder more than anything else, but it wasn’t so uncomfortable that I couldn’t keep going. My legs felt great, but my lungs definitely got worked hard. I’ve been hacking since I returned!
Honestly I would run short distances more if I didn’t always want to take my phone and listen to Pregtastic or bring a magazine! But maybe I can add a short run in once a week…at least while it feels OK to do so!
Lunch followed…
A Caraway Rye bun with smashed avocado and melted cheddar
Grapes (aka gnomps)
And a bowl of plain yogurt with Honey Bunches
Does anyone else find caulk to be totally appetizing!?!? It looks just like a delicious buttercream frosting! So soft and fluffy!
However, I did not eat any for dessert 😉
Hope @ With A Side Of Hope says
I never thought to melt cheese on avocado. That sounds interesting! Grapes always make for a good snack. Sadly, I rarely eat them because my bother my tummy.
Krissy @ Shiawase Life says
Yeah, when did it get so cool out again? It was warmer this morning…crazy spring!!!
Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat says
Haha had you not said that the caulk was what it was, I’d have thought it WAS icing! Great job on your run! 🙂
Jessica / Green Skies and Sugar Trips says
before I read the caulk caption, I totally thought it was Gelato!!!!! Yummy!!!
Well Gelato = Yummy, Caulk not so much 😉
Katie @ Peace Love & Oats says
um that caulk does look like buttercream frosting! That would be dangerous near me…
Vivi @My.Beautiful.Air says
You are totally glowing! 😀
KathEats says

Siobhan says
Maybe you have pica! Hopefully not 🙂
janet says
I was going to suggest the same thing! I think it is a common(ish) pregnancy symptom!
KathEats says
Haha I don’t really want to eat it. I only do because it looks like dessert! No desire for dirt around here
Sana says
Hahah I thought the same thing!
Elizabeth says
Haha I thought the same thing!
Ashley @ Coffee Cake and Cardio says
You look great. Now caulk has never been appealing to me but I love the color!
Allison k says
I think that caulk turns white when it dries…
Ashley @ Coffee Cake and Cardio says
It does 🙂 But the magenta/pink color is pretty.
Ashley @ My Food 'N' Fitness Diaries says
great job on your run!! i sure would be proud. 🙂 your sandwich looks so tasty! i need to try that combo… i’ve been obsessed with avocado lately.
Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) says
It’s so weird when other things look like food. That roll looks so good!
As for the run, I’m glad you felt like it. I think as long as you can enjoy it, go for it. Have a great afternoon Kath.
Khushboo says
Way to go on the run!! 2 miles or 25, it’s an achievement nonetheless!
barefootgirl27 says
loving your glow! I’m alos loving the color of that caulk…… reminds me of black raspberry ice cream as a child 🙂

Megan S says
Thank God! So glad I wasn’t the only one giggling at that!:)
Averie @ Averie Cooks says
Lol on the caulk comments.
What looks great are the grapes and melty cheese…perfect.
2.5 miles can feel like 25 depending on my mood…great work!
Molly @ RDexposed says
What a pica craving that would be!
Katie says
Woo hoo for running! I’m a few weeks behind you (15 weeks) and I find that I feel GREAT getting out there for even 2-3 miles these days. A big change from my marathon running past, but it still feels good and I still have the desire so I’m going to stick with it if I can! However, I am loving the walks too 🙂 And you aren’t lazy – growing another human is hard work!
Lindsay McAlester says
I LOVED the smell of cleaning products when I was pregnant!
Amy says
I can’t believe that tiny lunch fills you up! That’s like a tiny snack
Angel7 says
I am proud of you, Kath, for enduring a run! I do not think I could do it myself.
That caulking looks like some raspberry delight icecream or something 🙂

mary @ minutespermile says
thumbs up for (safely) running while pregnant. cheers.
Jamie @ Don't Forget the Cinnamon says
Ha! Too funny! It totally does look like frosting!
My sister once ate homemade soap that was in the process of solidifying because she mistook it for jello!
Angela @ Happy Fit Mama says
I don’t know how some women run their entire pregnancy. I felt really uncomfortable through my whole body. Well done to you!
Cait's Plate says
Hahahah – probably good that you decided to forgo the caulk this time around…not sure how much baby would’ve loved that 😉
Glad you felt good on the run! My sister ran through both of her pregnancies! I always say I want to do the same but I guess when the time comes I’ll just have to see how I feel about it…
That little sandwich looks DIVINE by the way! Love the cheddar/avocado combo 🙂
Anna @ On Anna's Plate says
I got urges to run until about week 22 of my pregnancy– I ran a 5k at Thanksgiving (well, “shuffled” a 5k, really :-)), and felt like my bladder was being stomped on with every step, haha.
Heather says
so glad you were able to go for a run! good job!
Fran@ Broken Cookies Don't Count says
Tasty lunch!
Jasper {crunchylittlebites} says
yay! you rock with the running Kath! that caulk does look yummy 😉
Jessica @ The Process of Healing says
I’m not able to run long distances anymore but I find a short run is SO energizing! Running makes me feel alive like no other exercise!
Becca says
Great job on the run!! I’m a big believer that any distance covered is an accomplishment 🙂
Gina @ Running to the Kitchen says
I’ve thought that before actually of caulk, but I’ve never seen purple caulk like you have there. I might not be able to resist it if it was a pretty color like that! (kidding, I could obviously ;))
kristen @ verbs and vignettes says
hahaha. glad to hear you resisted that dessert. I was afraid you were in the middle of some PICA episode or something. :p
Susan H. @ The Food Allergy Chronicles says
Oh my…cheesy avocado…yummy! I bet it felt great to get out running today…were you imagining pushing a stroller as you ran? I used to always forcast ahead in my head when I was pregnant…this time next year I will be doing…it always made me smile!
KathEats says
I was imagining what running will be like after giving birth – probably hard!
Susan H. @ The Food Allergy Chronicles says
Probably! I didn’t start running until after my boys were born…but I was right back out power walking with them in their strollers!
jojo says
Yeah, I ran throughout my pregnancy 🙂
I think it’s fine as long as you feel fine!
You look great 😀
Elle @ nutritionella says
I may or may not have said “Yum” when I saw the picture of the caulk, thinking it was frozen yogurt… Glad you enjoyed your run!
Julie H. of Spinach and Sprinkles says
My heart rate goes super high when I run so I have to mix in some walking to make sure it gets back to 140’ish. I had such a hard time switching and finding the right exercise. Running is definitly tough on the bladder when expecting. That one gets me ever time!!!! …….What have your doctors said about heart rate? I’m just curious to know what other doctors have said.
KathEats says
My doctor said heart rate is no longer monitored – it was just a fear for a while
Suzanne says
Caulk or spackle? Looks like spackle to me. 🙂 It does look like ice cream or frozen yogurt, so funny.
KathEats says
Indeed it is 🙂 All the same to this newbie
Suzanne says
🙂 My parents owned their own painting company. I’ve seen far too much of both.
Maria says
You look so adorable!
And avocado + melted cheddar sounds divine. I must try that.
Mom says
That calk really does look like frosting! I always wanted my dad’s shaving cream to be whipping cream when I was little.
Mom says
Oh sorry, I didn’t even spell it right: caulk.
Dudette says
Good for you on running! Cute baby bump too! Here is some inspiration or whatnot on running during pregnancy 🙂 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zRP5lpwJpaM part 3 is talking about the ‘bladder issue” 🙂 Enjoy the pregnancy!
Kimberly says
Why do you call grapes “gnomps”? I get most of your food nicknames, like bluebs and strawbs and pikals, but not sure where gnomps comes from.
KathEats says
Because that’s the sound Homer Simpson would make if he ate them… gnomp, gnomp, gnomp
SB says
Judging by the size of Homer, I am not sure he would be a grape fan!
Anne says
I was wondering if you were still running through pregnancy. Good for you for listening to your body and doing what’s comfortable 🙂
When we moved into our house, I said the exact same thing about caulk! I told hubby I was practicing my cake decorating skills as I was filling in holes in the wall to make it smooth.
Mary Legare Whaley says
Bahaha! I totally thought that was some fun frozen confection. Then I actually read what you wrote. It looks like blueberry ice cream. Now I’m hungry for dessert. I do have some Greek yogurt and frozen blueberries. I’ll create something yummy, but I really want blueberry fro-yo… =)
Vanessa says
LOL to the caulk statement. It does resemble a delicious color..
Kelly says
One of my closest friends has a 6 week old baby, and he just LOVES to be “bopped” or bounced on your knees. She is convinced it is because she ran while pregnant! It sure does tire your arms out quick though. So that can be your excuse as to why you don’t run as much anymore. 😉
~Christy @ wonderofallthings says
So great that you’re pushing the edges and seeing what feels right for you, right now, in this moment with running. Only you really know what works for you. Love it! Way to go 🙂
Lexi @ Cura Personalis Foodie says
Avocado cheese sammie?! yesyesyesyesyesyesyes
Jeri says
Paula Deen got me to eat guacamole, so I think you can get me to eat avocado. Growing up there was one in the back yard of our house in LA. And I love Mexican food, but never liked. but if you and Paula say it’s good, then I must try.
Diane @ runChipper says
I think it’s so awesome that you get out there to run! Women like you rock!
