Gosh this house looks good empty 🙂 When we set up again at our new place I am SERIOUSLY going to study Real Simple and Better Homes & Gardens before I put anything away. And I’m going to take my time finding the perfect spot for things so they don’t get cluttered.
The secret to a happy house packing: lots of boxes. I’ve been hoarding them for about 6 months and packing is easy when you don’t have to strategize over which box is the most valuable.
Today was a Monday favorite: Matt-made Whipped Banana Cottage Cheese Oats!
His Mix
- 1/3 cup oats
- 1/3 cup water
- 1/3 cup coconut milk
- Half banana
- Sprinkle of raisins
- 1/4 cup Organic Valley cottage cheese (4% and a sample treat from them), stirred in at end
- Handful of blackberries, added on top
- Sprinkle of Galaxy Granola Hint O Honey (like it, but vanilla is my fav!!)
- Spoonful Naturally Nutty
Served in my new favorite Asheville pottery bowl!
I had a headache upon waking 🙁 Gotta wean myself again with more decaf! But today was such a coffee day.
Plus we had a new kind to try! We used up our coffee stash and I bought some Caftea from Open Sky to try – Creme Brulee! When I came downstairs I kept getting wafts of butterscotch and didn’t realize Matt was making it. It was delicious!!!
Hope y’all have a great day!
Faith says
I’ll have to try coconut milk & cottage cheese in my oats — it sounds fantastic! I love your pretty pottery bowl!
Hope you have a fantastic Monday Kath!
Heather says
I love Real Simple magazine 😀 I also love sparsely, but appropriately decorated places. When places are too decorated, I feel….claustrophobic…sensory overload, something!
Hope you have a great week 🙂

Glad to hear packing is going well – definitely one of the hardest parts of moving!
Jessica @ How Sweet It Is says
I hear ya on packing things up and putting them away a certain way. I need to do the same in my house!

Wow that breakfast looks tasty. Wish I had time this morning to make something good!
Hannah says
I do know what you mean about an emptyish clean home… but I can’t help it, I love the homey, familiar, comfortable feel of a kinda-cluttered home. I can never relax in places that look like they came out of Vogue 🙂 Course, I could relax easy anywhere that served oats like you do 😀
Lindsay @ Summit Sandwiches says
That bowl is gorgeous! Eating out of a beautiful bowl in the morning always feel so special, like I’m starting the day off on the right foot.
Sarah (Running to Slow Things Down) says
Oh Real Simple…that magazine is so wonderful! 😀
And butterscotch coffee just sounds like the perfect way to start an early morning. Love it! 😀 I always forget about trying the flavored coffees and usually go with a regular French Roast. I’ll need to keep an eye out for some of the flavored ones. 😀
Jil @ Peace, Love & Munchies says
Mmm – those oats sound fabulous. I agree about the boxs – most of my (one) closet space in my apartment is taken up by the boxes I moved in with – I deem it a prudent use of space, haha. I mean when I go to move out…everything *should* fit, right? haha 🙂
Mary @ Bites and Bliss says
I love cottage cheese oatmeal. I never thought it’d be good but I’ve seen it so many times on here I decided to give it a try one day. They make the oats so creamy- it’s nice!
Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine says
Can’t wait until I have my own place to keep organized!! Real Simple has the best ideas, I agree. Hope you have a wonderful Monday!
Sarah @ cocoanutshakes says
Going downstairs in the AM to wafts of butterscotch coffee made by someone else sounds kind of like a dream =)

I really do love that bowl! Wonderful present!
Annie @ stronghealthyfit says
I agree, I hate clutter!
Your oats look divine 🙂
Courtney (Pancakes & Postcards) says
I could seriously just stare at your dishes for hours. Is there any way I can register for my wedding on your open sky shop? not that I am engaged or even in a relationship… just hypothetically speaking…
Kath says
Ha 🙂

I am a believer in less is more and keeping things de cluttered. It creates a clean open space.

I am so lovin’ that Asheville bowl. Shallow is totally the best for oatmeal. And a handle? Can’t be beat. My friend makes stellar ceramics if you’re looking for any cool new bowls!
Claire says
I still am loving your great pottery bowl, think I may need to get one at our place on Martha’s Vineyard when I go next week! The man-made oats look wonderful too of course. Can’t wait to get my own place and be inspired from Real Simple in the future too!
Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin says
I love getting inspiration from decorating magazines!
Creme brulee coffee sounds delicious! I’ve never really given flavoured coffees a try.
Brittany says
It sounds like you are doing better on the packing front than I am- and we move in 2 weeks. EKK.. Trying to not stress. 🙂
Your breakfast looks delicious- per the norm!
Samantha Angela @ Bikini Birthday says
I love that cottage cheese is so high in protein! What a great idea to add it to oats.
Rachel S says
I know what you mean about less clutter-whenever I read RS I feel so inspired to clean things up around here! I’m working on throwing away old papers and things I really don’t need anymore…sometimes it’s so hard for me to get rid of stuff!
I love the Asheville bowl–the colors, the design, everything about it!
A Teenage Gourmet (Sami) says
I really need to try cottage cheese in my oats. 🙂 My boyfriend’s name is “Matt” too, so that makes your stories all the better.
Wei-Wei says
Packing must be going well, for you to be in such a good mood 😉 Packing is usually the biggest nightmare of moving, no? That, and, well, unpacking. It’s annoying to discover (twice!) how much junk you have! D:
Your coffee sounds. Amazing. Creme Brulée? Seriously?! I hope it started your Monday off right! 🙂

Good luck packing! That looks like a delicious breakfast; I’ve never had a creme brulee… but I imagine it would taste very good!
Courtney @ Sweet Tooth, Sweet Life says
I definitely need to refamiliarize myself with some Real Simple magazines! I have some serious reorganization that I have to work on over the summer! :-O
Your oats look delish! I need to try adding cottage cheese again…I tried once and was unsuccessful. I’m thinking maybe I added it in too soon, and it started to cook up or something?
Kath says
Just stir it in at the end!
Alycia @ Fit n Fresh says
I NEED those oats!! Thanks for the awesome recipe – I would have never thought to add cottage cheese? You crazy breakfasters!
Can’t wait to see your new house (:
Coco says
Hey Kath! I just recently found your blog and I LOVE it. You truly inspire me with your positive attitude towards food and life! Question…on your recipe this morning, were the amounts listed in the ingredients just for your bowl or did you split that with Matt? Just trying to figure out the portioning. Thanks!
Kath says
Thanks!
Those were just my bowl – not both!
Sarah Keach says
Kath,
will you be in Yoga this Thursday? I am sorry I wasn’t there last week! If not, I hope to see you before your big adventure! by the way, I am a huge Dakota/Great Harvest fan…my fiance makes fun of my newfound bread addiction…but I will say he is a fan too! Best Wishes on the new chapter in your life!

Kath says
Hey!! I’m not sure yet – might have social obligation 🙁 Missed you last week!
Lisa says
That’s a great idea! We just remodeled our kitchen and I really need to sit down and plan the best location for all my goodies 🙂
Katie says
Kath,
Have you read the book “The Happiness Project”?? One of the first things the author does to boost happiness is clear her clutter! She also suggests leaving at least one shelf completely empty. Maybe ALL of those empty shelves you have will mega-multiply your happiness! 🙂
Have a great Monday!
Kath says
Haha – all of them for sure!
Camille says
Gorgeous bowl! Where is it from?

RS is one of the best magazines out there! Cant wait to see your new place.
Amber K says
Hoarding boxes was a great way to go! I haven’t had to move in a couple of years and I am NOT looking forward to it!
The oatmeal looks so pretty. That is such a cute bowl!
Lyndsey @ I'm Lyndsey says
Yes, lots of boxes make for easy moves! Especially if when you pack you label them by what room they should go in. Plus, if you don’t feel like unpacking everything all at once, it won’t look like a mess with all of them nicely stacked in the corner lol.
Happy moving!
Heather (Heather's Dish) says
mmmmmmm….coffee…must.make.some.now. 🙂
Kellie says
I am such a minamalist at home. I don’t like clutter, nicknacks or anything. With three kids it is not possible, but I try.
RhodeyGirl says
I can’t believe you’re moving so soon!! I feel like it all happened so quickly!!!!
Taysa (Water, Butter and Wine) says
I just have to say that from what I’ve seen of your house in the photos here, it always WAS extremely clean and looked extremely organized.
I have the ambition to be very organized/clutter free, I just don’t have the follow through so much. 🙂
Jenny says
I hear ya! I have boxes stashed away in my closet:) Hope that doesn’t make me crazy!
Stacie @ Imperfectly Healthy says
Lots of boxes are essential to an easier move! We’ve been saving boxes leftover from our move 3 years ago since we knew we’d move again once my husband was done with school! They were worth losing our under-the-bed storage space!
Toni says
I have a questioning concerning nut butters. I recently came upon another bloggers post and her experience with a peanut butter powder, a product similar to PB2. Have you ever tried these powders? Do you think they are acceptable substitutes for other nut butters? They have less calories and fat per serving and I just wanted to get a more educated opinion on this product.
Cynthia (It All Changes) says
We move a lot over the course of our career so we have totes and buy more when they are on sale to keep in the attic. A lot of them are green in red 🙂
But I save Real Simple magazine articles about organizing for when I have lots of energy to reorganize.
