The newlyweds are back from Europe and are moving to Dallas next week. And mom and dad just needed a reason to see their grandson! So today we all met halfway at San Soucy Vineyards in the middle of rural Virginia. They brought a lovely picnic, I brought desserts and we all had a great time tasting winemaker Paul’s wonderful flight. Maze enjoyed a few vintage toys and playing with doggies Frankie and Cab!
Grammie had a hard time saying goodbye!

Mom says
Yep. I bopped my head in the car about six times for more final goodbyes. Congrats on being a grammie!

Looks like a fun little break from reality. 🙂 Love random road trips! Wow… Larbs & Matt look so tan and happy. They’ve got that newlywed glow. Congratulations to them again! Their wedding was beautiful and the honeymoon looks like it was to die for. & Mazen is as cute as ever, of course. Looks like like he enjoyed the winery, too. 🙂

Looks like a good time and some perfect away-from-the-house foods!
I have to say, you’re the first blogger I’ve ever come across and you are what opened the door to blog world for me. I’ve been following for a looong time and finally started one myself….all because I stumbled upon your blog and made an oatmeal banana pancake. So thank you! 🙂

I love wineries! Quick question: I’ve heard some awful stuff about “baby” carrots. What’s your stance on them?
KathEats says
What have you heard!? I always just thought they were the leftovers of bigger carrot processing. I don’t think they taste as good as big ones, but I don’t think there’s anything wrong with them

Here’s a link from Wikipedia on baby carrots…not that bad, but just extra processing done. I don’t buy them, but it’s because they dry out too fast and they are just regular carrots. But, I don’t think there is anything wrong, either…
Christina says
I’ve heard that due to the amount of processing that when they shave them down they become more susceptible to bacteria so they chlorinate them. I’m not an expert and I have heard conflicting information (that they do and don’t). Generally, regular carrots just taste better though. Just curious!

Newlyweds moving to Dallas? Must be a job thing, huh? Hope they like it hot ’cause it’ll be near/at/or over 100 for the next couple of months. Not a fun time to be here but there are plenty of a/c repairmen. 🙂
Ali @ Peaches and Football says
What a great family get-together. I love the idea of a picnic lunch too. My mom doesn’t live close to her grandson (my nephew) and whenever she sees him there is some serious Grandma time! He’s almost 6 now but when he was young he called my Dad “Bumpa” and that stuck. So Grammie and Bumpa are now the official names for my parents. 🙂

Love it! I love the one of your mom saying goodbye to Mazen…life is funny and so full of new chapters. Good luck to your sister and her Matt:)
Molly A says
That chickpea salad looks great! Do you have a recipe to share?
KathEats says
Larbs and Mom made it – raisins, cilantro, vinegar – maybe they’ll chime in?
Mom says
Here it is. We left out the scallions. You can also substitute parsley for the cilantro.

Lea says
Thanks for that link. Safe, but seems to be a waste of a perfectly good carrot that they’ve whittled down. I’ve found there’s nothing like a carrot fresh from the earth!
Amy @ www.funfoodiefamily.wordpress.com says
