Snack-a-roos after rushing back outta the house after work: Voskos Honey (Loved it!) and a GH Raisin Bran muffin (ate about 1/3 of it – crumbled on top!)
Mmmmm…brannnnn…
We hit some beastly traffic
But tried to keep our spirits up
But when this happened for about 1/2 of the drive, we got a little sad
And then we made it! 3 hours later instead of 2
Our B&B is really cute. I highly recommend staying in B&Bs across the country! I like hotels in big cities, but in smaller towns, B&Bs are the way to go. You can find some that are really reasonably priced and most of them have evening wine + cheese, cookie jars and of course, free gourmet breakfasts. We love them!
The bathroom is cute + quaint
Matt pretending he’s an old man in his armchair. He’s currently reading a book on physics in it while I blog!
After settling in, we headed back out. We’re less than a mile from downtown, but given the rain, we decided to drive. Two hungry, hypoglycemic kids finding parking on a Friday night was NOT fun. Esp. after we realized we had no cash and had to go to an ATM to pay for said parking.
But we survived. Better than getting the swine flu I supposed.
Thank goodness the weather cleared up!! Asheville is SUCH a cute town. You all should come to visit. It’s just big enough for many weekend getaways but small enough to have uber charm.
Being hungry and all, we quickly settled on a restaurant I had found online – Posana.
We were seated outside right away! Sweet!
I had a hard time deciding between a cocktail and a glass of wine. I didn’t know what I wanted!! But upon seeing Lavender-Infused Cocktails, I decided to get something extraordinary
A cosmopolitan made with lavender tea!
Note the tea bag! It was excellent!
Matt got a brew. Per usual.
Mmmm! It was a little overcarbonated though
We were quite hangry and got a tempura appetizer to share – all veggies in tempura batter. They were fantastic – esp. the red peppers. I don’t really like fried food all that much, but I love tempura! Matt was annoyed that 1/3 of the plate was onions (and they didn’t say onions on the menu) so we wasted those, but I didn’t need more than a few pieces and the veggies I did eat were awesome.
For dinner I ordered the Open-Faced Lasagna (which came recommended x2) with Scallops, Wild Mushrooms, Leeks and Ricotta
I only ate about half of this – it was SO RICH with all the ricotta underneath. I can honestly say I stopped eating tonight because of how I felt and for no other reason. It was maybe a first to eat so intuitively!?
I also got a $5 side of swiss chard. Not worth FIVE whole bones 🙁 TINY! But good.
He got Quail over Mushroom Risotto. The quail was amazzzzing but the risotto a bit undercooked.
After dinner we walked around a bit – and found an outdoor concert just ending! They just built up this downtown park and it’s beautifully done as an outdoor venue.
We debated going out to more bars, dancing, etc, but we’ve both been up since 2:25 and 5:00 AM so we decided to save our partying for tomorrow night.
Upon our return, we found a suspicious dome…
Full of peanut butter bars!!
Annnnnnddd….I almost missed it but I found an OLD FASHIONED COOKIE JAR! (Mom, you’d love it!)
We shared one of each. They were delish!

1) This post took my computer 30 minutes to gear up for and 15 to write. Gruf!
2) I can’t WAIT to sleep in and not use an alarm tomorrow! First time in a while!
3) When we normally visit cities/towns, we have the urge to see all we can see AFAP. But tomorrow we’re just going to hang out. Do some reading. Walk downtown. Visit a brewery. And go to a nice dinner. Nothing has to be done on time.
Can’t. Wait.
lynn (The Actors Diet) says
looks like fun – i have actually never stayed in a B&B b/c i’m pretty shy and don’t really like to chat with people – but it seems like it’s worth it!
Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) says
Glad you made it there safely! Definitely enjoy your self and relax. I have never been to a B&B, but I will definitely look into it the next time we go somewhere…whenever that is! Sleep well!
Sam says
Wait! Matt doesn’t like onions either? Hope your weekend is sweet!
Bethany @ More Fruit Please says
Awww, the B&B is adorable! Have a good time!
Lindsay @ Summit Sandwiches says
Have an amazing time just relaxing, Kath! I’ve always been curious about Bed and Breakfasts…your B & B looks like such a cute and quaint place to stay for a few days, based on your pics. Plus, how can you not love a place that serves PB bars and cookies? What hotel would ever do that? I might be a new B & B convert.
Kellie says
How fun. Enjoy your weekend. I love leisurely weekends like that. I don’t know how you controlled yourself with the cookies and bars. I would have had three each!
Lisa says
What a cute B&B! I’ve never stayed in one before.
Run Sarah says
What an adorable B&B – great shots! I love the idea of a tea infused cocktail too, yum.
Ameena says
I have never stayed at a B&B but they definitely seem like a great way to get a good feel for what living in a small city would be like.
Have a great time!
Camille says
What an adorable little B&B!
The best hotel I have ever stayed at was a B&B in Edinburgh, Scotland. It was the cleanest, nicest place I have ever stayed, owned by the world’s nicest people!
Heather says
That lavendar cosmo sounds awesome! Enjoy Asheville 🙂
Jackie (Peaces of Earth) says
That B&B looks so cute! I heard Asheville was really cool, it seems like an awesome place for a weekend getaway!

i feel like i’m missing something, i’ve seen “AFAP” in the last two posts, but can’t figure out what it stands for. help? i feel silly…

as fast as possible?
Kath says
A ___ AP is usually “as ___ as possible.” In this case I put an F for FAST! 🙂

I recommend breakfast at Tulepo Honey Cafe. We go there whenever we’re in Asheville. I’ve been to Posana once, but only for drinks. There’s a sushi bar down the street from it that’s amazing. Sadly, I can’t remember the name. I think it’s the one closest to The Orange Peel. Where do you go dancing in Asheville?
Also, that B&B is super charming. Nice pick! Enjoy your weekend. 🙂
Jessie says
Tupelo Honey, YES. I crave that place now that I’m not living close to Asheville.
Jaime says
Haha. I always want to call it Tulepo for some reason.
Kath says
Tressa’s Jazz Bar!
Jaime says
I’ll have to check it out next time we’re there. I LOVE dancing. And Jazz.
Allie (Live Laugh Eat) says
I almost took a trip to Asheville last summer but didn’t get to…I sure wish I had! The B&B is darling. I had lavender infused ICE CREAM today. It was local and everything. I heart lavender!!
ENJOY YOUR WEEKEND DARLING!

Very nice and quaint bed and breakfast, indeed… even though I am currently catching up on a week’s worth of blogs from a larger chain hotel myself. Looks like a relaxing weekend ahead.
The 50 Best Health Blogs says
But … but … on a vacation, wouldn’t you just want to get away from things like the internet and blogging and telephones?
Jessie says
Aww, I love Asheville. Miss that place all the time, I went to college in Brevard (small town, about 40 minutes away but packed with waterfalls, Pisgah Forest trails, and close to the Blue Ridge Parkway). We used to go to Asheville all the time on the weekends.
Jenn (Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) says
Looks like you guys had a charming evening. 🙂 I’ve never stayed in a B&B, they look so cozy, but I worry about them being too quiet. Dustin might have a hay fever sneezing attack, wake up all the guests and we’ll get kicked out and end up at the Bate’s Motel or something, LOL.
Jenn
Freya @ Brit Chick Runs says
I love staying in B&Bs too! There’s something so nice about having your breakfast all made and staying somewhere cozy and so on – it’s lovely 🙂
I’m glad you’re having a good time though, after the long trip – it sucks to get held up 🙁 Have a great sleep!
Wei-Wei says
Gosh, what a fun place! I love your hotel, it’s incredibly cute. Just wondering about the peanut butter bars – do they supply those to every customer? Aren’t they worried about allergy issues? (There’s a big peanut butter ban in my school because of possible allergies.)
Go! Have loads and loads of fun! 🙂
Wei-Wei
Kath says
Well they ask about allergies for breakfast so I imagine if someone had a severe p-nut allergy they would say something.
Leo @ Cupcakes In Paris says
wow…. looks like a cool evening yall had!
Love the B&B!
Have fun!!!!
Melissa Cari @ Miles for Markets says
Your post literally went from stressed/hungry to completely relaxed at the end 🙂 I hope you have a great time this weekend!

No better place to spend a long weekend than Asheville, your evening looked fabulous. Happy Anniversary, a bit early!! I’d love to know what B&B your staying at, as we’re thinking of heading there over Labor Day weekend.
laine @ beets, butter and mountaintops says
Hope the rest of your stay is better than the first day!
I so want to visit Asheville someday.
Rachel Ann says
My husband and I went to college in Asheville and now, even though we live in fabulous New York City, I miss it almost every day.
If you get a chance, grab some local brews and gourmet pizza at Asheville Pizza and Brewing Company (ie – Brew and View) on Merrimon Avenue. Early Girl Eatery and Laughing Seed on Wall Street downtown are also BEYOND fabulous restaurants. Flying Frog, Doc Chey’s and Tupelo Honey round out my recommendation list. 🙂
Rachael says
Posana for creative drinks is now on my list for when I get home. I miss Asheville already!
Kristine says
Kath, this is super random but were you in a sorority in college?
p.s. Asheville looks awesome!!!
Kath says
We didn’t have them at Davidson – only “eating houses’ and I was in one of those.
Jenna says
B & B looks adorable!
Have fun 🙂

katherine says
hey kath. i live in asheville, but am actually headed to the beach this morning, otherwise i would have tried to get a run in with you! did you know that posana is 100% gluten free? they don’t really advertise that, but it’s so awesome for people who can’t tolerate gluten to be able to enjoy something like tempura? hope you have a great trip!
Kath says
I did hear that!
Erin says
You are going to LOVE Asheville! My family has a house there and I usually make it up there a couple times a year. Great food there! I’m sure you have your food already mapped out, but I would highly recommend Corner Kitchen (dinner or lunch–upscale comfort food), Laughing Seed (my favorite vegetarian restaurant…ever!), and 12 Bones is my new favorite (barbeque). But Asheville is filled with great food and I’m excited to see what places you find. Black mountain has a great hike with lots of rock-filled streams along the way. Have a great time!
Nicole says
I visited Asheville this month! It was awesome. I loved how small the city was- perfect to explore by bike. There’s this really great little cafe/coffeeshop/bookstore that you should check out- Firestorm Cafe. It’s got a pretty great atmosphere, terrific food, and fantastic coffee! Plus, it’s worked-owned and operated.
Have a great trip!
Leigh says
I love Asheville. It’s one of my favorite cities. Two of my favorite restaurants–Tupelo Honey is fantastic (but go early to avoid the wait), and Zambras has great small plates with lots of unusual flavors. Also, Early Girl Eatery…I could keep going and going!
Mary @ Bites and Bliss says
Looks like you guys had fun!! I’ve never stayed at a B&B before. But hey, any place that gives you cookies is awesome in my books. 😉

Hi Kath!
I’ve never commented on your blog before, but I read it every day (and by every day we all know I mean 3x!). I live here in Asheville and hope y’all really enjoy every minute of your stay here. All of the restaurants people have recommended are wonderful-Laughing Seed being one of the absolute best. Their menu is innovative, vegetarian, and more creative than a lot of restaurants I’ve ever been to! Have a WONDERFUL weekend here!

Hi there! Big fan of your blog, hope you enjoy your trip! The place you’re staying looks adorable! How did Matt like the Green’s gluten free beer? I’m dying to try it (as soon as I can find it!)
Kath says
It was great!! Great flavor. Just a bit overcarbonated.

Sounds like a fabulous “plan” for the day!!

I have never stayed in a B&B. I like the bit hotels that allow me to be as anti-social as I wish to be. =P

Hunni and I are looking into staying at a B&B when we go on a mini vacation this fall.

I’m sorry to hear your that your restaurant experience wasn’t so great, but I’m jealous you are staying in B&B! My parents stayed in one when they visited me, but I never got to actually see it.

I hope you and your husband heard some good music in Asheville last night. My son is playing down there tonight and tomorrow night. Look for Jason De Cristoforo Trio. They rock!

And as you know, standing in linefor a seat at Tupelo Honey is worth it!
